INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

Since 2015, the international yoga day is celebrated on 21st June every year. This idea was
proposed by our prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. Yoga is a physical mental and spiritual
practice which is originated in India. It also gives a great opportunity to imbibe the value of
discipline. For a student's life overall development is necessary along with understanding the

importance of discipline.
In Ascent Public School various physical activities are carried out together with academic
activities so as to make the children more active and alert. Knowing the importance of yoga
and physical activities every Sunday a physical activity video is sent by the school for the

betterment of their children.
Regular practice of yoga will surely help our children to achieve a better life physically,
mentally and spiritually as well. For making this day memorable even during the lockdown
period the children were asked to make the videos performing different yoga asanas, exercises,
aerobics or any other kind of physical exercises. And from those videos five best videos were

choose and shared among all of us through website, Facebook and YouTube.

FATHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION

The 3rd Sunday of June that was
June 21, 2020 this year was celebrated as
father's day throughout the country. This
is a day to celebrate and honour the fathers,
and the father figures, in our lives. Although
we should always respect and love our
parents everyday but by dedicating a day to
them gives us a chance to explore and put
more efforts for them by doing something of
their interest.
Moral and social development of a child is
one of the primary concern of Ascent Public
School. Keeping this in view this year the
school gave an idea to the children to make
a beautiful card and write a letter to their
father thanking them for being a strong
pillar of their life.

ONLINE PARENTS TEACHER MEETING

Parents teacher meeting is an old concept in which a meeting is arranged
between parents and teacher to discuss about the performance of the
child. It helps parents and teacher both to understand about the
development of the child through two-way communication. During this
lockdown phase it is not possible to arrange a face to face meeting of
parents and teachers but it is always necessary to discuss about the
performance of children.
Keeping this point in view Ascent Public School took a necessary step to
conduct the online parents -teacher meeting during the second week of
May, 2020. For this online parents teacher meeting the whole class was
divided into small groups of 5 to 6 students. The parents were called
groupwise per day by the class teacher for discussing about the child and
queries were taken for any difficulty faced by them in the online classes.
The main motive of this online meeting was to collect the inference of the
efforts done by the school in the form of online classes.
It was observed that during the phone calls parents also involved
children by keeping the phone on speaker. This shows that the parents
feel confident on the teachers and expect them to guide their children in
better way.
Many parents appreciated the work of teachers and many of them got
their queries solved. This online parents teacher meeting was a successful
attempt in filling the gap between parents and teachers. This extra effort
of the teachers was appreciated and the parents felt more confident and
happy.

engaging children During lockdown

In the situation of lockdown when we need to be alert from the pandemic disease
COVID-19 it is not possible for the children to go outside and enjoy outdoor games
between the natural environment. But we Indians are always very flexible with our
situations and never lose hope. Keeping this in view for motivating the children the
first competition for the session 2020-21 was held in the Online Campus of Ascent
Public School.
A circular was sent in all the class groups by the class teachers asking the children to
send the videos and pictures of different activities done by them during this lockdown
period. Earlier a rough Idea was provided to the children about the activities that
they can perform at home, now they were asked to make videos or pictures of those
activities to ensure that the children are using their time in fruitful manner. The
children were motivated to perform activities like cooking, gardening, drawing,
making some craft material, playing music, etc. The competition was held to analyse
the interest of children towards different activities apart from studies. It was
announced that the winners will be declared after the school will reopen. When the
videos and pictures started coming it was realised that the children are putting very
honest effort in these activities and the drawings or craft materials prepared by them
are worth to be exhibited once the school gets reopened. It was delightful to see that
most of the students participated in this competition with great enthusiasm and zeal.

online debate

"You can say A thousand men by appealing to their prejudices quicker than you can convince
one man by logic." Debate is one of the academic activities that give students creative room to
express what they feel. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gain through this is
more convincing for them.
Ascent Public School has set the benchmark for conducting this activity on the online platform.
During the online classes an online debate was conducted by Mrs. Bhawna Joshi, English
language teacher, for the students of class 11th to speak in the favour or against of lockdown in
India. She gave the children the chance to choose whether they want to speak in favour or
against of this topic. To her delight she found that the children took a lot of interest in sharing
their views on this topic. However, after watching the videos she realised that all the children
spoke in favour of lockdown. Keeping in mind that for a debate there need to be some against
points, she asked all the students to speak in against of lockdown. This decision of her became
fruitful when the children sent the videos speaking against the lockdown. Many points were
covered in both favour and against of lockdown. Where the children pointed out that lockdown
is a way to keep ourselves safe and sound at home they also pointed that it is affecting our life
adversely like we are not able to take proper study classes in the school, there is food scarcity,
people are out of their normal life and there is a fear all around the world. All the points pointed
out by the children proves that they are in regular touch with the effects of lockdown. It also
gave them a chance not just to think about one side of a topic. The online debate was highly

appreciated by Mrs. Bhawna Joshi and was also shared among the teachers to appreciate and
motivate our children for participating in the online debate and showing their
enthusiasm.

SUNDAY ACTIVITY

For the overall development of a child nonacademic activities are equally
important like the academic activities. School is a place where this
development takes place in a systematic and organized way. Different
activities like sports, music, yoga, dance, etc. are performed in the school
along with the academic activities. However, in this situation of lockdown
when the children are at home for their safety it becomes the duty of the
school to look after the overall development of the children through
different means.
Ascent Public School always focuses on using different means for the
betterment of children. To give a boost to the children and to let them be
in touch with other activities the concept of Activity Day was started on
every Sunday. Sunday was decided to be the activity days since it was a
holiday from online study. On this day a music and yoga video prepared
by the respective teachers was sent in all the class groups.
Along with the music and yoga video, to motivate the children and for
their cultural development they were asked to prepare their own videos
performing different activities like dancing, playing musical instruments,
cooking, singing, etc. From the bulk of videos sent by the children only few
videos were selected to be sent in all the class groups. The children whose
videos were selected were happy that they got a platform even during the
lockdown period and it also motivated the other students to perform. The
rate of participation by the children was very high as they had number of
activities to perform according to their interest. Many videos are collected
daily and it was difficult to choose few out of these many videos. The
enthusiasm of the children shown in these videos truly proved that they
are honestly putting their efforts together for staying at home safely at the
same time utilising their time in doing interesting activities.
This effort of Ascent Public School had only one reason that is their lovely
children and these efforts got fruitful results in the form of many videos
sent without hard work by the children.

POEM ON NATURE BOOKS

The weather is so pleasant ‘’Come in, come in!
The weather is so calm. Said the library door;
I saw a little bird I opened it wide
I took it in my palm. And saw books galore!

What a fragrance from flowers, Tall skinny books
Like daisy, rose and sunflowers. Up high on the shelves;
Fresh air is blowing Little fat books
The small trees are growing. That stood by themselves.

The dew drops are falling, I opened one up
The small creatures are crawling. And sat down to look;
The birds are singing, The pictures told stories!
School bells are ringing. What a wonderful book!

Social Media

Students as you know that social media is a tool that is becoming quite popular these
days because of its user-friendly features. Social media platforms like Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter and more are giving people a chance to connect with each other
across distances. In other words. The youth is especially one of the most dominant
users of social media. All this makes you wonder that something so powerful and
with such a massive reach cannot be all good. Like how there are always two sides to
a coin, the same goes for social media. Different people have different opinions on
social media. So, in this article on Social Media, we will see the advantages and
disadvantages of social media.
Advantages of Social Media
When we look at the positive aspect of social media, we find numerous advantages.
The most important being a great device for education. All the information one
requires is just a click away. Students can educate themselves on various topics using
social media. Moreover, live lectures are now possible because of social media. You
can attend a lecture happening in America while sitting in India.
Furthermore, as more and more people are distancing themselves from newspapers,
they are depending on social media for news. You are always updated on the latest
happenings of the world through it. A person becomes more socially aware of the issues
of the world. In addition, it strengthens bonds with your loved ones. Distance is not a
barrier anymore because of social media. For instance, you can easily communicate with
your friends and relatives overseas.
Most importantly, it also provides a great platform for young budding artists to
showcase their talent for free. You can get great opportunities for employment
through social media too. Another advantage definitely benefits companies who wish
to promote their brands. Social media has become a hub for advertising and offers
you great opportunities for connecting with the customer.
Disadvantages of Social Media
Despite having such unique advantages, social media is considered to be one of the
most harmful elements of society. It is harmful because it invades your privacy like
never before. The oversharing happening on social media makes children a target for
predators and hackers. It also leads to cyberbullying which affects any person
significantly. Thus, the sharing on social media especially by children must be
monitored at all times. Next up is the addition of social media which is quite common
amongst the youth. This addiction hampers with the academic performance of a
student as they waste their time on social media instead of studying. Social media
also creates communal rifts. Fake news is spread with the use of it, which poisons the
mind of peace-loving citizens.
Conclusion
In short, surely social media has both advantages and disadvantages. But, it all
depends on the user at the end. The youth must particularly create a balance
between their academic performances, physical activities, and social media. Excess
use of anything is harmful and the same thing applies to social media. Therefore, we
must strive to live a satisfying life with the right balance.
