Risha Agarwal of Grade VI Ganges, the young author
of Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram feels
proud to share the success of completion of her first
book named, ‘The Shoes under the tree.’
An avid reader, Risha devotes an hour every day before going to bed. Having
already read books of famous authors, she felt the need to pen down a story of her
own.
Her passion to read not only helped her to write her own book but also helped to
get a good command over the language.
Her e-book named “The Shoes under the tree’’ is a short book about how two
friends, Jake and Helen found a magical pair of shoes under a tree which changed
their lives thereafter.
This e-book can be browsed and downloaded
by the readers via the Amazon kindle.
We wish her all the very best for her future endeavor.

Sometimes, when I sit alone with no one around
me, I usually get bored! I feel like going to a place
where I can be at peace. I will live alone there too
but with nature around me, I will feel relaxed. I will
name the place, ‘The world of my dreams’, where
beautiful flowers will grow in my garden and they
will smell as good as sweets! I will have a wooden
house, to the right of which will be huge trees with
delicious mouth-watering fruits. A river flowing
nearby will have the bluest, cleanest and freshest
water ever! Some animals will also come to eat my
land’s sweet and juicy green grass. Whenever I will
get bored, I will go and sit under the huge banyan
tree a few yards away, where all kinds of birds will
sing in their melodious voices. The soft music and
gentle tune will help to calm my mind. I wish I had a
place like this to live in and if I ever get a place like
that, I would thank God for this beautiful life,
surrounded by greenery all around.

THE MIRACULOUS FOREST
I am a traveller. I believe that experiences at new places with new people while travelling
are an invaluable source of knowledge. About three months ago, I decided to go and
explore the forests near a tiny Himalayan village. The walk was extremely enjoyable till I
tripped over a stone, lost my balance, slipped and rolled down the deep valley. As I
landed in the dense part of the jungle, I felt a sharp pain in my left ankle. I sat up to
massage my leg and was then when I noticed my surroundings. Tall pines trees stared at
me sternly for perhaps I had disturbed the peace of the jungle. Suddenly I felt uneasy. My
attention was now on the dark trees and the slow gurgling sounds of a river flowing
through the forest.
With some effort I stood up and started limping through the muddy footpath that
spiralled around the hill. The forest appeared less scary now and I started enjoying the
chilly Himalayan winds swishing through the trees. The muddy lane had irregular patches
of dry slippery grass which caused me to stumble at times. Under normal circumstances, I
would have enjoyed the forest walk like I did when I was a little boy but now it felt never
ending. Suddenly I was hungry, cold, lost and in immense pain.
Bravely, I trudged along the windy path till I could hear the river gushing nearby, swift and
ferocious, breaking the silence of the night. Finally, I reached the rocky banks of the river
and seated myself on a flat round stone, splashing the icy water on my face hands and
feet. The dark forests, rhythmic river and placid air had an intoxicating effect on me and I
fell into a deep slumber resting my head against the smooth rock.
I must have slept for a considerable time because when I looked at the sky the moon had
changed its position and the night had grown dense. I shifted and looked around when a
rustling sound behind the trees caught my attention. I stiffened. I had heard tales of the
hill tigers and was terrified. A dark figure emerged from the trees and I let out a small
gasp.
As the moon beams fell on him, I noticed a young boy in his early teens looking at me
intently. I let out a sigh of relief and fired a series of questions at him. ‘Who are you,
what’s your name? Where do you live?’ I asked. He refused to answer and I wondered if
he was suspicious and alert because I was a complete stranger. I straightened and gave
him an account of how I got lost, sprained my ankle and how much I needed some food
and rest. Upon which he smiled, nodded and said ‘I am Bishen, you can come with me.
My home is a few minutes away from here’.
Continued…..
THE MIRACULOUS FOREST
Continued………
He helped me rise from the rock as my injured leg felt numb due to the lingering pain. We
walked along slowly in the darkness of the night till we came upon a clearing with a bamboo
hut and a crackling bonfire burning outside. An old man sat on a cot lighting an old oil lamp.
Bishen said ‘I live here with my old father, tell him that I brought you here and he will help
you get better soon. In the meanwhile I will fetch some firewood as the night is growing
chilly. If I do not leave immediately and it starts to rain we will all be stuck in this cold.’ He
gave me a broad smile and soon disappeared in the darkness of the forest.
I heard the old man coughing incessantly as I slowly walked towards the hut. He saw me
approaching and looked at me curiously. I opened my mouth to speak but suddenly I felt my
head burning up as I fell unconscious on the ground. When I woke up I was lying down on
the cot while the old man rubbed turmeric paste on my ankle. He offered me some potato
stew and berry juice that I devoured in no time.
As I regained some strength, I started narrating my story to the old man – how I had a fall,
hurt myself, lost my way and how his son helped me through all the misery. The old man
stared at me and asked ‘My son Bishen?’ I nodded. I saw tears brimming in the old man’s
eyes and a sad smile flashed across his face. ‘My Bishen died 20 years ago, Sir. He was a
vivacious boy and had a generous heart. His smile lightened up my world and his existence
made my life worthwhile. On an unfortunate evening when he had gone to collect firewood
his leg slipped and he fell off the cliff”.
The old man paused for a moment, sniffed and continued. ‘I drowned in grief till many
weeks and decided to leave this forest. However on one such evening a young man like you
came here and told me that he was lost and Bishen had guided him to our hut. At first, I did
not believe him but soon lost travellers started reaching here and I understood that Bishen
was guiding them. So I stayed on. I started feeling Bishen’s presence around this forest and
knew that my dear son wanted me to help the lost travellers.’ The old man sighed and a tear
rolled out of his tired eyes. As for me, I was speechless. I had witnessed the unimaginable
and could feel a multitude of emotions inside me. The whole night I could not sleep.
Bishen’s story had touched me and it was perhaps the most emotional incident that I had
witnessed during my travels.
In the morning I decided to plant a tree in the loving memory of Bishen. It was my way of
thanking him. As I was working on the soil I could almost feel Bishen’s presence as if he was
around to acknowledge this small act of mine. After I planted the tree, I thanked Bishen’s
father for all the help and continued my journey taking innumerable memories along with
me.

ENCOUNTER WITH
FRIENDLY ALIEN
One day three friends – Ojas, Rahul and Karan were playing in the park during
summer vacations. Just as they started pushing their wickets in the ground, and
Rahul was preparing himself for balling, sudden atmospheric changes occurred,
and the heavy storm accompanied with thunder and lightening appeared. Everyone
in the park was scared, and most of the kids ran to their houses. The three friends
were about to leave the park, just then they saw a massive spaceship covering the
whole park appeared in front of them.
A funny looking miniature monster got down from the spaceship. The kids guessed it
right, it was an alien from another planet. It had a spongy green color skin and a
triangle face. Its neck was slightly brown in color, its stomach square and its legs
were super strong, broad and rectangular. Initially the three friends got scared, but
when they saw that creature coming forward and trying to talk to them, they
stopped. Alas, the kids could not understand what the alien was trying to say. Then
the alien swooshed a magical wand over the kids’ head, so that they could
understand what he was saying.
The kids became friends with the alien. He told them that he was from the planet
Krokota. He told that he accidently landed on Earth as his spaceship had crashed
against an asteroid. Kids assured the alien that they will protect him and send him
back to his planet safely. Then they started playing. They did races with each other
and ate the food which Ojas brought from his home.
Then he told lot of interesting things about his planet, like it had many moon games
because it had 1292 moons which is largest in the universe. Suddenly Rahul threw
the cricket ball in the sky, and the alien was surprised to see it coming down towards
Earth. He asked how this ball is coming down. The kids told that this is called
gravitational force. Alien explained that the creatures staying there could fly in their
planet because there was no gravitational force. He also explained that his planet
had mainly Helium and Hydrogen in their atmosphere because of which they could
fly easily as these are the lightest gases. He told that there is no pollution in their
planet as it is here on Earth.
Well, the engine of the spaceship was now working properly, so the alien decided to
leave as he was missing his home. But he was very happy to meet the kids and
invited them to his planet for a feast. They bid good bye to each other.

Just get back to your room.”
The son got up and went up to his room. The father then realized that he had
been rude to his son.
He went to his son’s room, and asked his son. “Are you asleep”? Son said “No,
I am not.” The father offered him a note of Rs. 50. The son took it, turned to his
pillow and brought out another crushed note of Rs. 50. The father asked, “If
you already had a Rs.50 note why did you ask for another one?”
The child took both the notes handed it to his father and said innocently. “Dad
here is Rs.100 can I have one hour of yours….?”

A FUNNY EPISODE WITH MONKEY DHRUVIKAA REDDY, VII - RAVI
MANAN VERMA, V - CEDARS
This summer, I went to Bali with my
family. We explored many new places there.
We went to Uluwatu temple, which was
infamous for mischievous monkeys. We
heard that monkeys are so naughty that
they even snatch earrings, rings, car keys
apart from food items and bottles. So we
removed all our stuff beforehand to save
ourselves from any encounter with
monkeys. We all were enjoying the view
when we heard a loud cry. We ran toward
that side and were surprised to see my
mother shouting aloud.
We asked her what happened. She
said that when she was enjoying the view,
something crawled on her foot. She looked
down and saw a monkey taking her slipper
away. She got scared and started shouting
seeing that monkey was chewing her
slipper. Then a woman came out of nowhere
and offered the monkey some food .But the
monkey would not give the slipper back.
When his hands got full and he could not
hold more, he dropped the slipper and ran
away. My mother thanked the lady and took
the slipper back. We still make fun of her by
saying that you got a nice souvenir in the
form of slippers chewed by a monkey.
