COUNSELLING SESSIONS ON SELF DISCIPLINE –
Grade V (July, 2019)
“Motivation gets you going, but Discipline
keeps you growing”
John. C. Maxwell
Self-Discipline involves being responsible and controlling your own behaviour even
when no one is watching you. It is more than just following rules that our parents or
teachers have set.
Student Self-discipline is described as self-management, having control of one's own
behavior and making responsible choices; academically and socially.
To emphasize on this, the Counselling Department conducted class sessions on “Self -
discipline” with Grade 5 learners in the month of July 2019.
During these interactive sessions, the emphasis was given on self - regulation,
controlling impulsivity, delay gratification and social acceptable behaviour.
COUNSELLING SESSIONS ON SOCIAL &
EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT– Grade VI (May, 2019)
“Good habits formed at youth make all the
difference” -Aristotle
Adolescence is a phase of immense social and emotional development for a child. It
shows that the child is forming an independent identity and learning to be an adult.
Social emotional development is the formation of self-concept and self-esteem.
Children gradually learn acceptable and unacceptable behaviours to build their
individual identity. To empower children to develop these social skills, Counselling
Department conducted Class sessions with Grade 6 learners in the month of May 2019.
During these interactive sessions, the concerns related to the use of inappropriate
language were also addressed.

SOAP & CANDLE MAKING ACTIVITY- Grades IX-XII
“Science walks forward on two feet,
namely theory and experiment but
continuous progress is only made by the
use of both. -Robert A. Millikan.
Hands-on activity with young learners is not just a simple science experiment it is an
experience. Hot- stove, wax, soap base, lots of fingers and a thousand questions.
Learners of Grades IX – XII enthusiastically participated in soap and candle making
venture conducted in the chemistry laboratory.
Learners had an opportunity to play with their creativity and science concepts being
the backbone of the activity. Learners had an enthralling experience through-out and
it turned out to be a great learning experience through a fun way for them.
The learners understood the saponification reaction used in the formation of soaps at
the industrial level. Goat milk-based soap bases were used for quality products.
Variations are inculcated by using different raw materials such as aloe vera gel and
honey for medicated soaps. Coconut oil, rose water, shea butter for preparing soft,
soothing soaps. The addition of soap colors, essential oils such as lemongrass, tea
tree, eucalyptus, etc. added to the aroma and quality of the prepared products.
The learners understood the physical and chemical change involved in the burning of
the candle in the most playful way by making candles. They melted the wax, added
colors, and aromas of their choices and poured them in different molds to get
beautifully scented candles as the product.
The activity gave immense knowledge, contentment, and happiness to the learners
and it was a fun-filled day for them in the chemistry laboratory. This also helped in
developing their interest in science as a subject.

about the ‘Bastille Day,’ how it is celebrated in France, why
the French people mark it as the most important date in the
French calendar and also about the French culture and its
civilization. They also learned that French people celebrate
this day by watching the world’s oldest military parade which
also known as Fete de la Federation.
