This is a story of a young boy and his
beloved ice. Not ice-cream, but the ice rink.
His name is Julian Yee and he is Malaysia's
first Winter Olympian.

Julian's childhood..
This is Sunway Ice Rink, a popular ice rink in Malaysia. When
he was a boy, Julian would put on his skates and skate here.
He would skate a few meters and fall down. He'd skate a
few more and fall down again. But he always got up and kept
skating forward. He had to catch up to the older skaters
swooshing about with shocking speed! 14

Julian trained very hard. He took
part in speedskating competitions.
He was proud to represent Malaysia.
I want to learn
figure skating!
However, Julian was drawn to the figure
skaters at the rink. They would perform
incredible jumps and skate to exciting
music. It seemed really fun! 15

It wasn't easy at all. Sometimes he would
fall. But just like when he was a boy, he
would get right back up. Most importantly, he
never forgot to have fun performing.

Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics
held in South Korea.
He made history by becoming the
first Malaysian athlete to
compete at the Winter Olympics.
