JP SWIMMING Junior Primêr Sport

In the first term we took part in swim- SWIMMING
ming. The grade 3 swimming team IS FUN 1515
participated in four Durban North
Gala’s. The learners swam really well
and had great fun.

This year, amendments were made
to the training times with coaches.
These changes allowed for the grade
1’s to swim separately, while the grade
2’s and 3’s now swim together. This al-
lows for more individual attention and
is working well.

Thank you to all the parents for their
support.

In die eerste kwartaal het

ons geswem. Die graad
3 swem span het aan vier Durban
Noord Galas deelgeneem. Hulle het
baie goed gedoen en dit werklik ge-
niet.

Hierdie jaar moes ons die tye waarin
die afrigters die swemspanne afrig,
aanpas. Nou swem die graad eens
op hul eie, terwyl die graad twees en
dries saam oefen. Dit werk goed want
meer individuele afrigting kan plaas-
vind.

Graag wil ons elke ouer hartlik bedank
vir jul ondersteuning.

2020 New heights with
computers

Nuwehoogtes met
behulp van rekenaars

Many of us feel like saying, “Don’t make fun of
me when helping me to work with the computer.
Remember, I taught you to use a spoon!”

Ja, dit is geensinswat die nuwegenerasiesalenwilsênie. Dit

is onstaakomleerders toe terus met ditwatnodig is.

With the whole world being technologically inclined, it is
so important for our learners to be computer literate. We
are in the fortunate position of having computers at our
disposal and can use them with this vision in
mind.

Through the use of a computer program called “Computer
Skills for Africa”, we are able to transfer skills and knowl-
edge and encourage creativity through various fun activi-
ties.

Lees-en-wiskundeprogramme help ook om leerders se
akademiesevermoëns te verbeter, terwyl hulle gebruik-
maak van rekenaartegnologie.

We are excited to achieve new heights in education by us-
ing these computers.

SP HOCKEY

The hockey season started out with lots of energy and great enthusi-
asm from all the participants. The players trained hard and improved
on their skill work. Although some days were long and hot; all players
were keen, ready and showed great commitment.
Each team played well and implemented their newfound skills. WELL
DONE!
The boys U10, U11 and U13 team attended a tournament which was
held at Northwood Boys and hosted by Glen Ashley. All the boys who
attended played exceptionally well and some even surprised them-
selves with their capabilities on the field. Unfortunately due to the un-
planned amount of rainfall the tournament had to be cancelled halfway
through the U13 games.
We would like to thank the parents who allowed their children to play
on a cold and rainy afternoon. Your support and dedication is greatly
appreciated.
Yours in hockey

20 August 2015

Dear Sean

I am going to write to you about an awesome
book I have just finished reading. It was a book
about soccer and how to play in other positions.
The name of the book is The Super Soccer Profes-
sionals. I really enjoyed the book.

I have learnt how to do every single exercise and
drill the book has taught me. I have learnt every-
thing I need to know about soccer from this read-
ing book. I have learnt how to be a goal keeper as
well. I have also learnt how to play in all the other
positions you can think about. The book has also
taught me how to play with my left and right foot.

I don’t mind lending you the book for a while up
until you finish it. It is a very interesting book to
read and I am sure you would enjoy the book as
much as I did.

Kind regards,
Disiame Mokoena

GREASE

Durban North College can be extremely proud of staff and students who
were involved in the school’s production of Grease.
All the hours and hard work paid off. The finale night was a major suc-
cess and well put together, from the beautiful table arrangements and
décor to the actual show itself.
Through the creativity of Anwyn Winterbach, Mrs Tait and Miss Minnaar,
Grease really was the word. The children brought the creativity alive and
the 1959 feel was realised through Mrs Howard and the team of teachers
and parents that bought the stage alive. Maybe the biggest thank you
and mention should go to Mr Lategan and his workers who produced a
fabulous Grease Lightning car. “Wow!” is the word for the creation. In the
end a very big thank you goes out to each individual that contributed
big or small. Without you, this production would not have taken place.
Durban-Noord Kollege is baie trots op ons leerders en onderwysers wat
betrokke was by die Grease produksie.

FUNDAY

The Senior Primary Fun Day is a much anticipated day in our hot sum-
mer month of March. It a day where the learners can cool themselves off
on the water slides and other various water activities. There are other ex-
iting apparatus for the children to engage in as well as lots of ice-cream
eating! It really is a fantastic day!
Our annual bumper fundraiser is the Durban North College Go Kart day.
The third term is an array of money collection, theme choosing and go-
kart building throughout the whole school. The actual day is filled with
the delightful shrieks and laughter of learners from all ages. It is a much
enjoyed day.
In today's world our children are surrounded by television, computer
games and other various technology. So, a highlight of the Senior Pri-
mary year is our annual Games evening fundraiser. This is your typical
old fashioned kind of fun that is refreshing to our children of today.
Crawling on the ground during Stalk the Lantern is part of the fun. The
main aim of the evening is the unconventional use of everyday items to
create interesting games for the children to play.

HS BOYS’ HOCKEY

“Hockey is more than a passion; it is a dedication, and it draws
you in and never lets you go.”

The season started in the 2nd term. We had three teams this
year: an u/14, u/16 and 1st team. The boys did a lot of skills
and fitness training during practice sessions. They were dedi-
cated and committed towards growing as individuals and as a
team.

We have a great bunch of boys. They stick together as a team
and they never give up, thus leading to a great season of
hockey. We did not win all of our games, but, with each game
we grew as a team; we enjoyed the game and learnt from our
mistakes.

Boys, you showed great sportsmanship on and off the field
and it was such a pleasure coaching you.

The boys improved their skill this year and they are prepared
to learn, which is very important. The boys’ hockey keeps on
growing year by year and we will continue building on this
foundation to be the best boys hockey teams and to reach our
full potential.

Well done on a great hockey season boys and remember:
“Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to
unlocking our potential.”
