HS SEUNSHOKKIE
Die seisoen het in die 2de kwartaal begin. Ons het driespan-
nehierdiejaargehad: ‘n u/14, u/16 en1ste span.
Die seuns het baie nuwe vaardighede geleer en het ookbaie
fiksheid gedoen. Die seuns was gedrewe om te groei as spel-
ers en as ‘n span.
Die seuns was toegewyd, hulle het nooit opgegee nie en het
altyd saam gestaan as ‘n span.
Hou so aan!

FIRST TEAM GIRLS HOCKEY
Our season began with, what we thought would be, an uphill
climb. Fortunately, it was not as bad as we anticipated it to be.
We started off with our first match in the first term against Scott-
burgh and beat them 1 – 0. We then moved on to the Voortrek-
ker tournament the next weekend. We played exceptionally well
on the day, keeping in mind that the fitness levels were far from
what they were supposed to be.
During the second term, we had mixed results. Although we
could not win all our matches, through teamwork and dedica-
tion of our coach, Mrs van Rooyen, we had some very exciting
games.
None of our successes would have been possible without the
incredible patience and hard work of Mrs van Rooyen, who defi-
nitely gave us a wake-up call, helped us all to improve and al-
lowed us to begin to fulfill our potential.
It was good to see that there were enough girls to fill up a sec-
ond team. Unfortunately, many girls were not available for
matches. Girls don’t give up, next year will be a better year.
Our u/16 team with their coach, Ms Marais, improved their skills.
They attended their practices with enthusiasm and determina-
tion.
Well done to all the girls for believing in themselves and always
striving to be their best.
To our grade 12 girls, please keep playing the game you love.

HS RUGBY
Once again Durban North College had a successful season. We had three
teams that played this year, namely a 1st team, a 2nd Team and an u/15
team.
The u/15 team showed vast improvement from where they stared at the
beginning of the season. Their best game of the season was definitely their
match against Crawford La Lucia. They won the match by showing a lot of
determination. The boys showed that through hard work and dedication
you can improve as a team. We want to thank their coaches Dian Herbst and
Blake Loeve for their commitment towards the team and the school.
The first team also grew as a team. We won 5 of our 9 league games. All the
games were close hard games. The games that we lost were close games
that we could have won but unfortunately a rugby ball is not round.
The highlight of the season was definitely the opportunity the boys had to
play at Kingspark Stadium in a curtain raiser for the Sharks. This was a huge
experience for the boys and they will remember it for a long time.
The other highlight of the season was our final game of the season against
the highly rated team of New Forest High School. We went into the game as
the underdogs. The DNC boys had other plans and played their best game
of the season. We won the game 31 – 10.

HS NETBALL
Durban North College’s netball team had a very busy year. The girls took
part in 2 tournaments held at Voortrekker High school and Scottburgh High.
Winning some and losing some, they held the school’s name high and en-
joyed the outings.
On 19 March, 13 girls representing the 1st and 2nd netball teams, took a 9
hour drive to Camp Discovery in Limpopo to take part in a netball clinic pre-
sented by Tuks netball’s head coach, Jenni van Dyk. The girls had lots of fun
and learnt a lot of new skills. On Saturday afternoon they played 3 games
to implement what they had learnt and won 2 of the 3. Unfortunately the
games were rained out on Sunday afternoon.
Thank you to our sponsors, Jan Kraay-eiendomme, Mrs. P. Snyman and Au-

Durban North College’s first action netball team did extremely well this year
winning all their league games and taking the silver medal in the final.
The team played 15 games this year, of which 7 were league games, and
they won 4. We will miss the matrics that are leaving immensely.
I would like to thank our sponsors, Mrs Coombes, Mrs Fenemore, Mrs Kraay
and Mrs Snyman. A special thank you to Mrs Martinez from Pandora for
our lovely bags and 1st team dresses. We appreciate your interest in our
girls and hope to keep the Pandora flag flying high in the future. This year
we had a boys’ netball team that took part in the league at Durban North
arena. After a very rocky start they went from strength to strength and
ended up playing in the Bronze final, losing by only 1 point. We hope to see
them win the gold final next year. Well done to these boys.
Durban North College had 6 KZN players this year and they took part in the
Interprovincial Junior tTournament during the April holiday.

HS SWIMMING
The swimming season improved greatly in 2015. In each “friendly” gala,
held at various schools, DNC was improving in positions and places;
snatching a top 3 finish in certain events.
After many early mornings and afternoons of training, the
team improved by a position form 2014 and managed to
come away in 8th position at the Kingspark inter-schools gala.
Well-done to Bernard De Waal for achieving many 4th places at this event, as
well as to the team of open girls: Angelique Slabbert, Natalie Smith, Lienike
Botha and Caitlyn McCosh who achieved a 3rd place in the relay event.
Thank you to our captains of 2015, Angelique Slabbert and Nic Nell.At our

performances at the league and district championships. Every Wednesday
during term 2, was a league race in the Durban district, at various schools.
Durban-North College performed consistently well at these races, which
ultimately lead to the inclusion of 9 of our athletes into the Durban District
team. This team consisted of Dawid Cronje (u/14), Franscois Somers (u/14),
Riana Schreuder (u/15), Musa Mtshali (u/15), Shiraz Kara (u/15), Ethan Daniels
(u/15), WandileNgwenya (u/16, Ine Linde (u/16) and Vanessa Venter (u/17).
The Durban District team competed in the Umlazi District tri-
als a few weeks later and 3 of the athletes managed to get through
to this team: Riana Schreuder, WandileNgwenya and Ine Linde.
At our annual Sport’s Dinner,Ine Linde and WandileNgwenya won the

HS DEBATING
Durban North College was given the opportunity to compete
with various schools in the district. During the first tournament,
held at Crawford College La Lucia, our novice debaters competed
against Durban High School. Although we did not win, it was a
revelatory learning experience and exposed our learners to the
field of debating.
With much hard work and agility, many of the debaters improved
their debating skills. On the 21st February 2015, our learners
participated at Thomas More College and won their first tourna-
ment against Ridge Park College.
Debating requires a lot of preparation and skill. The debaters of
Durban North College, have shown their intellectual maturity and
prowess throughout the season. Well done to all those who have
participated.

HS FASHION SHOW
During the month of February and March, the Grade 11’s of Durban
North College, were in the process of planning and putting together Dur-
ban North College’s Annual Fashion Show. The theme this year was Up-
town Funk. In the beginning, we experienced many challenges because
each modelling group had to come up with a sequence of their own.
Everybody wanted things their way and so there were a lot of conflicting
personalities and ideas- as in any great production.
Fortunately, we had assistance from our dedicated teachers to keep us
in order. As we got closer to the event, we learnt to work as a team and
things began to come together. Practice was tiring, stressful and intense.
Through it all, camaraderie developed among the Grade 11s. The Fash-
ion show brought out an improved self-confidence and discipline in each
of us.
In the end, it was a successful evening and we were able to maintain the
high standards of DNC’s annual event. It was an absolute honour to be
crowned “Miss DNC” of 2015. A big THANK YOU to all who attended and
supported us. On behalf of my fellow Grade 11 learners, I would like to
wish the grade 11’s of 2016, good luck and I hope that you will enjoy this
experience because the outcome is worth every effort put in.
A special thank you to Mrs T. Rodriques for her hours of dedication. This
even would not have been a success without your assistance.
Well done to Mark Mizon on being crowned “Mr DNC” , as well as to all
the Grade 11s who participated, it was truly a night to remember…
