ood afternoon and welcome to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for today’s Premier League fixture against Brighton and Hove Albion. I a m h o n o u r e d t o b e entrusted with the team for the remaining games and have the excellent support of Ryan Mason and the backroom staff here. I love being at this Club and will do my best for the final nine matches. Our first fixture was on Monday night at Everton, where we were frustrated to come away from Goodison Park with only a point. We deservedly took the lead through Harry’s penalty however, playing against 10 men for a large part of the second half, we didn’t control the game well enough. We needed to be better at moving the ball quickly and finding space to attack, and we have to improve in this G aspect in the next few weeks. Overall though, there were positives to take from a difficult away trip against a team who have improved under their new manager. It is now important that we build on those positives today and I should like to welcome Roberto De Zerbi, his players, staff and everyone associated with Brighton. We know how strong Roberto’s team can be, particularly offensively, and it is important that every player is focussed and ready to do their job from the first minute to the last. Finally, we want to give you performances you can get behind because your support can be crucial to us over the final weeks. Togetherness and unity can be our biggest asset as we look to achieve a strong finish to the campaign, and hearing you backing us makes such a difference. 8 THFC AROUND THE CLUB TH20_08-09_News 170.indd 8 05/04/2023 10:29

THFC 9 AROUND THE CLUB NEWS DESK Kerys Harrop has broken the all-time record for most appearances in the Women’s Super League. Our defender had drawn level on 177 appearances with West Ham United’s Kate Longhurst and now-retired Gilly Flaherty, who originally set the record when she was at Liverpool in January. The trio were tied at the top, but with Longhurst an unused substitute for the Hammers in their goalless draw with Liverpool last weekend, that meant Harrop’s appearance in our 2-1 defeat at Everton saw her move on to 178 WSL appearance and she now stands alone at the top of the list. The Stourbridge-born defender made her WSL debut for Birmingham City in a 4-0 win against Bristol City back in 2011. She joined us from the Blues in July 2020 and has played 43 times for us in the WSL. Meanwhile, Beth England climbed up to second in the standings for most goals scored in the WSL since its inaugural season in 2011, following her goal against Arsenal recently. England’s penalty against the Gunners took her up to 62 goals in the top-flight - one ahead of Ellen White. Vivianne Miedema is top of the leaderboard with 78 goals in the WSL. RECORD-BREAKING KERYS! Harry Kane has reached another landmark in the Premier League as he was involved in his 250th goal in the competition in Monday night’s 1-1 draw at Everton. His penalty at Goodison Park was Harry 205th goal in the competition which brings him to within three of second placed Wayne Rooney (208) in the Premier League’s all-time scoring list. And with 45 assists already to his name in the top-flight, our Club’s record goalscorer has now reached the milestone of 250 goal contributions in the Premier League. Jermain Defoe and Les Ferdinand are among 15 legends who have been included in the latest voting shortlist for players to be inducted into the Premier League’s Hall of Fame. Currently coaching in our Academy, ‘JD’ sits proudly sixth in our all-time leading goalscoring list with 143 goals in 363 appearances in all competitions between 2004-14 and, with 162 goals in total including spells at Portsmouth and Sunderland. A Spurs fan, Les joined us from Newcastle United in the summer of 1997 and spent a total of 12 years here, six as a player from 1997-2003, six in coaching roles, 2008-2014. He scored 149 goals in the Premier League in spells at Spurs, QPR, Newcastle, West Ham, Leicester, Bolton, Reading and Watford. Michael Carrick (75 appearances for us, 2004-06) and Sol Campbell (315 appearances, 1992-2001) are also on the shortlist, as is Yaya Toure, currently coaching our Under-16s, alongside Tony Adams, Petr Cech, Andrew Cole, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Gary Neville, Michael Owen, John Terry and Nemanja Vidic. Visit premierleague.com to vote. ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR KANE DUO ON SHORTLIST Davinson Sanchez became the latest member of our first team squad to reach 200 appearances in our colours. The Colombian international joined us from Ajax in August 2017 having previously featured for Atletico Nacional in his homeland. His Spurs debut came as a late substitute against Burnley that month and he has now played 138 times for us in the Premier League, 14 in the FA Cup, 13 in the League Cup and 36 times in European competition, with five goals to his name. THFC 1 3 FIVES HARRY KANE SPURS 2-0 BRIGHTON 29.10.14 This was our first competitive match against Brighton since an FA Cup win in 2005, and notable for the second goalscorer on the night - a certain Harry Kane. Erik Lamela opened the scoring before Harry slid home Andros Townsend’s cross to secure the win. This was Harry’s eighth goal in the League Cup and Europa League that season, a run that ultimately earned him a place in the team in his breakthrough campaign of 2014/15. A few days later, he came off the bench to score a late winner at Villa, and he hasn’t been out of the team since... ERIK LAMELA BRIGHTON 1-2 SPURS 22.09.18 We’d lost three on the spin in all competitions when we arrived for a rainy day at the Amex back in September, 2018. We needed to turn it around and did so thanks to Harry Kane’s penalty just before half-time followed by a decisive strike from Erik Lamela to put us 2-0 up with 10 minutes remaining. Lamela arrived perfectly to meet Danny Rose’s cross and the celebrations told us how much it meant to get back to winning ways. Brighton came back late, but the job was done - this victory sparked a run of six wins in our next seven, ultimately on our way to fourth place in the Premier League in this memorable 2018/19 season. CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN SPURS 1-0 BRIGHTON 23.04.19 In a season of fine margins, this was a crucial victory, as we claimed fourth place and Champions League qualification. We’d just moved into our new stadium and just beaten Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League but, at the same time, we’d also lost against City back in Premier League action at the Etihad. We needed to get back to winning ways against Brighton here in N17 but, with minutes remaining, we were locked in at 0-0. Step up Christian Eriksen... receiving the ball from Dele about 40 yards from goal, the Dane let fly …BIG GOALS AGAINST BRIGHTON F I V E ... 1 2 3 The Premier League is committed to continuing its world-leading financial support for all levels of the game and communities across England and Wales, positively impacting the future of our sport and millions of people. THFC 1 5 FIVES from distance, the ball zipping home past Mat Ryan, much to the relief of 90 per cent of the stadium! The importance of the goal and the difference between one and three points is there in black and white as we claimed fourth place by a single point from Arsenal. GARETH BALE SPURS 2-1 BRIGHTON 01.11.20 Gareth Bale returned ‘home’ to Spurs in the summer of 2020 and, having spent time getting up to speed, this was the first goal of his second spell. Harry Kane fired us into the lead from the penalty spot, only for Tariq Lamptey to level 10 minutes into the second half. Our second was typical Bale - off the bench on 70 minutes, the Welshman provided a clinical headed finish from Sergio Reguilon’s cross for what turned out to be the winner just three minutes later. It was the first of 16 goals in all competitions for Bale, the last of which secured victory at Leicester on the final day, lifted us over Arsenal in the 2020/21 table and into Europe. HARRY KANE BRIGHTON 0-2 SPURS 16.03.22 We don’t have to go back too far for our fifth and final goal on this list - indeed, just over a year ago at the Amex - as Harry Kane latched onto Rodrigo Bentancur’s pass to finish clinically and put us out of sight on the night. This was a big goal on a number of fronts. First, it secured the win against the Seagulls. Secondly, that win put to bed quickly the loss at Old Trafford days before, and sparked a run of four victories on the trot. Finally, it was history for Harry, as it marked his 95th away goal in the Premier League, taking him past Wayne Rooney’s record away haul. It also moved him up to fifth in the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring list on 178. 4 5 Cheers with no alcohol Now you can Great taste. Natural ingredients. THFC 1 7 THE BIG INTERVIEW orn into a football family in the suburbs of Senegal’s capital Dakar, a region known for producing top African football talent such as Sadio Mané, there is little surprise seeing Pape Matar Sarr’s steep rise to playing at the top level. Pape and Mané’s early careers have striking resemblances, with both players starting in Génération Foot, one of Dakar’s best football academies, before moving to French side FC Metz and then to the Premier League. But Pape’s development started before his academy years. “I was born into a family where almost everyone played football, so I was born with football really in my blood,” exclaimed the Senegal international. “I started out playing football from a very young age, just a kid really. I began playing in the district where I lived. We had a football team from our family alone! I played every day, all the time without affecting my studies too much. I always believed that one day I’d make it and get my reward.” It didn’t take long until the young midfielder was being closely monitored by big clubs across Europe before we signed him from Metz in August 2021 and his self-belief has helped Pape achieve so much already in his burgeoning career. Part of the Senegal squad that won the 2022 African Cup of Nations as a teenager, Pape was named Men’s Young Player of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards before rounding off 2022 by representing his country on football’s biggest stage - the World Cup in Qatar. After returning from Qatar, he made his Spurs debut on New Year’s Day as a substitute against Aston Villa, was given his first Premier League start in a home north London derby and performed superbly on his Champions League debut against AC Milan in the San Siro. All at just 20 years of age. “Playing in the World Cup helped me to grow as a footballer,” said Pape. “It was an experience that I really enjoyed. Representing your country and your people in a tournament like that was a real source of pride for me. THFC 1 9 THE BIG INTERVIEW “I was also really happy after making my Spurs debut, in spite of the fact that we lost the game against Aston Villa. I’m so happy to be here and to wear the shirt, it’s a real source of motivation and it allows me to work hard in training every day. I really like the city and the fans – they’re great with me. The set-up, facilities and all the staff here are really welcoming.” Following his summer move from Les Grenats in 2021, Pape was loaned back to the French side in Ligue 1 before reporting in at Hotspur Way for pre-season in July 2022 after closely observing the Club during his spells overseas to prepare for life in England. Having linked up with our squad for the first time this campaign, Pape had to be patient for first-team opportunities and was restricted to two appearances for our Under-21s in a challenging opening half of the season for him personally. But hard work on his game and in the gym and a strong support network has helped him overcome that difficult stage to go from strength to strength. “As soon as I’d signed for Spurs I then stayed on at Metz, but I made sure I followed the Club’s progress very closely,” admitted the 20-year-old. “I even observed the training sessions, I had a look at the city a bit also, the supporters after the matches, the players and how they did things, so I was already preparing myself for what was ahead of me here. “Spending my first six months without playing was honestly very tough. But with the help of my family and friends and the backroom staff and my team-mates as well, I managed to get through that period. I never let up for a minute and I always believed in myself. I kept telling myself all the time that I was working well in training, even if I wasn’t getting a game, and that one day it would all pay dividends for me. “The Club put together a training programme and supported me as I did quite a bit of work in the gym, something I hadn’t done too much of when I was in France. I’ve come on a lot in the tactical side of my game too and I believe that I’ve made good progress in every aspect.” “PLAYING IN THE WORLD CUP HELPED ME TO GROW AS A FOOTBALLER” Score your perfect car Browse our huge range, buy online, and get a 14-day money back guarantee. THE BIG INTERVIEW THFC 2 1 After reporting back from the World Cup last winter, Pape only had to wait until the first day of 2023 for his first-team debut in a 10-minute cameo in our 2-0 loss to the Villains here at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before getting his first start in our FA Cup victory over Portsmouth just six days on. The Senegal international impressed at the heart of our midfield against the League One side, passing the ball around with confidence and performing his defensive duties with some key tackles and interceptions, which earned him a first league start in the north London derby a week later - becoming the first Spurs player to do so since Ryan Mason in 2014. Pape then had to wait for another opportunity to impress, with the 20-year-old an unused substitute in our subsequent defeat away to Manchester City and not selected for the next two Premier League victories against Fulham and the Citizens before replacing the injured Rodrigo Bentancur in our defeat at Leicester City. Following Rodrigo’s long-term injury and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s suspension, his opportunity arrived when he was handed his Champions League debut in our Round of 16 first leg trip to Milan, grabbing it with both hands. Paired alongside Oliver Skipp, both young midfielders put in a top display and certainly didn’t look out of place in the San Siro, with Pape admitting he treated it like any other game, such is his confidence. “I started off that game full of emotion and feeling positive,” added Pape. “We all knew that it wouldn’t be easy because Milan are a great team, but it was a game of football at the end of the day, like any other. I’d dreamed about playing in these kinds of games. “I felt proud because all the hard work I’d put in over those six or seven months had come to fruition. Now it’s all about continuing to work hard in order to earn as much playing time as I can.” A promising sign of what’s to come in lilywhite from our highly talented and ambitious midfielder. “NOW IT’S ALL ABOUT CONTINUING TO WORK HARD IN ORDER TO EARN AS MUCH PLAYING TIME AS I CAN” TH20_16-21_Main_Interview_Pape_Matar_Sarr 170.indd 21 05/04/2023 09:23

2 4 THFC Herbert Chapman might be well-known within football for his achievements as a manager, but it’s unlikely too many people will be aware of his goalscoring Spurs debut against Brighton and Hove Albion 118 years ago! The son of a  coalminer, Chapman was born in 1878 in Kiveton Park, a small mining village not far from Sheffield, and went on to combine his studies in engineering with a football career. He initially played as an amateur for Kiveton Park,  Ashton North End and Stalybridge Rovers before joining the professional ranks with Rochdale. Operating as an inside right, he moved to  Grimsby Town  in the Second Division of the  Football League  in 1898 and had spells with Swindon Town, Sheppey United  and  Worksop Town  before signing as a part-time  professional for Northampton Town in 1901. The following year he joined  Sheffield United in the First Division and scored two goals in 21 games in the 1902/03 season. Chapman continued to study and he eventually got his diploma from the Institute of Mining Engineers. He was still determined to make it as a professional footballer and in 1903, signed for Notts County for £300. With plenty of experience under his belt, he then joined us in March 1905 for a fee of £70 and was almost immediately thrown into the first team, replacing the legendary centre-forward Vivian Woodward for our home game against Brighton in the Southern League on 18 March. It was to be a successful debut for the then 27-year-old, who scored our goal in the 1-1 draw. Two days later, he kept his place as we drew 1-1 at Queens Park Rangers in the Western League and was in the team again the following weekend, albeit this time in the inside right position for our Southern League victory over Luton Town. Chapman featured twice more that season and was almost ever-present the following term, top scoring with 11 goals in 28 Southern League appearances. However, the Tottenham Herald commented that after a bright start he had lost the ability to score goals. It added: “Although we can hardly say that he is in the first flight of footballers, he is a most conscientious player and gentleman both on and off the field.” Chapman took the first steps into management when he became Northampton’s player/manager in April 1907 before taking over at Leeds City. After the First World War, he took charge at Huddersfield Town, initially as secretary but soon as manager – and his impact was little short of sensational. He led the Terriers to FA Cup success in 1922 and the League championship in 1924 and 1925. He left Huddersfield for Arsenal in May 1925 and guided them through one of the most successful spells in their history, winning the FA Cup in 1930, runners-up in 1927 and 1932 and becoming First Division champions in 1930/31 and 1932/33. He sadly passed away from pneumonia in January 1934. HERBERT CHAPMAN Two of our players made their debuts against Brighton United at the turn of the 19th century. Goalkeeper Wilfred Waller featured in a 1-0 away win on 21 January 1899, while half-back Ted Hughes made the first of his 151 Southern League appearances for us in a 6-1 home win on 7 October the same year. Brighton United only spent two seasons in the Southern League, resigning from the competition with four games remaining of the 1899/1900 season and their record expunged. DID YOU KNOW? DIVISION ONE 18.03.1905 SPURS BRIGHTON MAKING THEIR DEBUTS Continuing our special series as we examine the debuts of Spurs players whose first senior appearance in our famous shirt came against today’s opponents. THFC 2 5 MAKING THEIR DEBUTS RODRIGO BENTANCUR Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur quickly became a firm favourite here in N17 following his arrival last January, with his first appearance in our colours coming in an FA Cup tie with Brighton. Joining us from Juventus on the final day of the January transfer window in 2022, the Uruguayan international was drafted into our matchday squad straight away and took his place on the bench for the visit of the Seagulls in our fifth-round clash. Harry Kane opened the scoring, Solly March put through his own net in the first half before then Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma pulled a goal back for the visitors. But Kane added our third to put us back in control and, with 23 minutes remaining, Antonio Conte turned to Bentancur to help shore up midfield and make sure there was no way back for the south coast side. It was only a brief cameo in lilywhite, but he showed a few glimpses to give Spurs fans cause for excitement. Neat and tidy in possession, with the ability to shut down space in midfield and showing a clear passion for snapping into tackles, it was certainly a promising debut. Born in Nueva Helvecia in Uruguay, Rodrigo came through the ranks at Boca Juniors, making his senior debut for them in 2015 and subsequently winning two Primera División titles and a Copa Argentina during his time at the club. He moved to Juventus in 2017 where he continued to achieve success, winning three consecutive Serie A titles between 2018 and 2020, in addition to lifting the Supercoppa Italiana twice and the Coppa Italia twice, in 2017/18 and 2020/21. The 25-year-old featured regularly in Serie A and the UEFA Champions League throughout his time with I Bianconeri, playing against us in the latter competition during the 2017/18 season. A regular for his country, he quickly settled into life in north London last term. Despite a disappointing full debut, as we lost 2-0 at home to Wolves, Bentancur soon became one of the first names on the teamsheet and, during the second half of last season, his partnership in the heart of our midfield with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg laid the foundation for our eventual fourthplace finish in the Premier League. He started this season in the same vein too and also added goals to his game. Having netted just three times in 181 games for Juventus, he’s already scored six times in just 44 appearances in our colours. Unfortunately, the all-action midfielder suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament against Leicester City in February and will miss the rest of the season as he continues his rehab. Dejan Kulusevski also made his debut in our FA Cup victory against Brighton in January 2022 as he followed a similar path to Rodrigo Bentancur. The Swedish forward also joined us on deadline day from Juventus – on loan – and came off the bench nine minutes before Bentancur in our 3-1 win. DID YOU KNOW? THFC 2 7 GLOBAL FOOTBALL We want all aspiring young Spurs players to join us on our upcoming Evening Player Development Programmes. O u r A p r i l – M a y E v e n i n g programmes begin on Monday 17 April and run through to Friday 26 May. Train at premium venues across London and Hertfordshire that provide a high-quality training environment for players to develop their skills and knowledge of the game. The structured syllabus and experienced coaches help young players to get the best out of their game and maximise their potential. PROGRAMME CONTENT Our programmes are designed to focus on developing the creativity and decision-making ability of all players with our technical development syllabus broken down into the following themes. • Spurs DNA (Learning the club’s football philosophy) • 1 v 1 Domination (attacking vs defending) • Brilliant basics & ball mastery (passing, receiving and movement) • Exploiting overloads • Goal scoring & finishing • Small, sided games (2v2, 3v3, 4v4) Our themed sessions allows for a lot of small-sided games and tournaments. This develops a greater understanding of how to play in a variety of positions and situations, as well as providing players with the technical and tactical knowledge to improve their game. As well as developing players on the pitch, our programmes aim to develop players away from the pitch by: • Develop players’ self-confidence so that they feel braver and more composed when in possession of the ball or having to defend in various situations. • Improved physical literacy based on fundamental movement skills (agility, balance, coordination and speed) • Instilling determination to succeed and challenging them to strive for continuous improvement at every session. • Developing players’ enthusiasm, love and passion for the game. • Teach all players to respect the game, their teammates and the opposition. • Providing a fantastic opportunity for players to make new friends who have a shared interest in football. THFC This week’s archive objects are related to our opponents from the south coast. The first, a VHS tape of a reserves match from 1989 and the second, an envelope of programmes from UEFA Intertoto Cup matches we played in 1995. These two categories of objects are ones we have many of within the collection – but why is each one important? You might ask, why, in this digital age, do we still have VHS tapes in the club collection? Simply put, not all these tapes have been digitised or have digital copies. So, these may be the only copies in existence of the friendlies, reserve matches and other types of games they cover. There are also tapes of adverts, documentaries and interviews within the collection. Inside the box with the Brighton reserves tape is a video of a Spurs XI v a Boxholders XI; annoyingly this tape isn’t dated so if you played in a Boxholders XI we would love to hear from you! In time, these will all be checked and digitised but we intend to keep the physical copy as the tangible object to go with the footage. This ongoing work is part of having an ever-growing football collection. As mentioned, we also have an envelope of programmes from matches Brighton and Hove Albion hosted for us in 1995. These were fixtures in the Intertoto Cup, a summer football tournament which, prior to a UEFA takeover, was created for the continuation of the football pools and lotteries. Founded in 1961/62 by people with a vested interest in having purposeful matches t a ki n g p l a c e d u r i n g t h e summer, UEFA themselves were not initially interested in supporting a competition so closely tied to betting. It wasn’t until 1995 that the Intertoto Cup, originally known as the International Football Cup, came under official UEFA sanctioning and became a competition exclusively for teams that had missed out on qualification for the Champions League, UEFA Cup or European Cup Winners’ Cup the previous season. Prior to that, no English club had ever competed in the Intertoto Cup but the Football Association was obliged to provide three entrants who hadn’t already qualified for a European tournament for the 1995-96 season. The 1994-95 campaign had seen us finish seventh in the Premier League and miss out on a place in the UEFA Cup. We were entered for the Intertoto Cup along with ninth-placed Wimbledon and Sheffield Wednesday, who had come 13th. Brighton’s Goldstone Ground acted as our home ground for our matches, this was because we had the London Monarchs using White Hart Lane during the summer and needed to perform pitch repairs and so we were not able to play these matches in N17. We played ‘home’ games against Swiss side Luzern and Osters IF of Sweden at Brighton and produced programmes for both matches. 3 7 FROM THE VAULT HOTSPUR HISTORY HOTSPUR HISTORY Each issue, we’ll be delving into our club archives to look at just some of the objects and items which helped shape our history off the pitch and pick out a couple of past programmes against today’s opponents… Proper off-road capability. THFC HOTSPUR HISTORY 3 9 TAKING ISSUE A quick glance through a couple of previous matchday programmes against Brighton & Hove Albion. game against Brighton in the Premier League on 13 December 2017, with Heung-Min Son adorning the front cover. A whole host of features started with ‘Tottenham Tales’ detailing our matches at Brighton’s former Goldstone Ground for our InterToto campaign in 1995 and continued with a feature interview with Christian Eriksen, following his 200th appearance in our colours in our 5-1 win over Stoke City. Another ex-Spur was in charge of the Seagulls this time, Chris Hughton leading the side for the Wembley Stadium clash and the likes of Anthony Knockaert, Davy Propper and Glenn Murray were all profiled. Our Academy pages reported on a 4-1 UEFA Youth League win against APOEL in which Japhet Tanganga was on target, former Spurs and Brighton defender Gary Stevens recalled his time at both clubs in a three-page Q&A, while Fernando Llorente, Juan Foyth, Paulo Gazzaniga, Davinson Sanchez and Serge Aurier all featured in ‘My First Spurs Christmas’. The issue concluded with a ‘Wembley Memories’ interview with Chris Hughton, who recalled his FA Cup Final appearances in our colours at the national stadium in the early 1980s. Goals from Aurier and Son ensured a 2-0 win over the Seagulls on this occasion. 1977 Our first-ever league encounter with Brighton occurred during our Second Division campaign of 1977/78 and we produced a 16-page programme for their visit on 19 November. Both teams were setting the pace towards the top of the table, Keith Burkinshaw’s side in second behind Bolton, with Brighton – managed by our former captain Alan Mullery - in third, four points behind us. Our page three editorial discussed the good form of both teams as we’d won our opening seven home games in the division. Page four and five featured match action from our 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, Ian Moores and John Duncan on target. ‘Club Scene’ on the following two pages included a round up of news, such as John Gorman putting his artistic talents to good use during a period out injured; Peter Taylor winning the London Evening News’ speed shooting competition held prior to Trevor Brooking’s testimonial at Upton Park; and a welcome to former defender Mel Hopkins, who was attending the game as club leader of Shoreham Boys Cub and bringing 35 members of the club with him. Brighton’s pen pics featured the likes of Mark Lawrenson, Brian Horton and Peter Ward, while page 13 made mention of Joe Kinnear’s testimonial against the Seagulls the previous year, in which Terry Venables, Dave Mackay and Jimmy Greaves all played for Brighton. We drew 0-0 against Brighton at the Lane in our Division Two clash. 1982 A 100-page match programme was produced for our first-ever home TH20_36-39_Hotspur_History 170 2.indd 40 04/04/2023 14:45

4 0 THFC SPURS WOMEN SPURS WOMEN HEARTBREAK ON MERSEYSIDE A stoppage time goal consigned us to defeat against Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League last weekend, despite a good performance at Walton Hall Park. After Eveliina Summanen had cancelled out Nicoline Sorensen’s early goal for the home side, we looked like we were going to be heading back south with a point, only for Everton to steal the win in the 93rdminute through Aggie Beever-Jones. Kerys Harrop kept her place in Interim Head Coach Vicky Jepson’s starting XI – setting a new all-time WSL record with her 178th appearance in the competition – while Jess Naz returned to the squad for the first time since December having recovered from injury. The home side took the lead after just three minutes, Izzy Christiansen putting the ball through to Sorensen in the 18-yard box, who curled it past Becky Spencer with the first shot of the game. We responded well though, as Molly Bartrip picked out Beth England on the left wing, who in turn pulled the ball back for Summanen. Connecting sweetly first-time, our Finnish forward picked out the bottom right corner with aplomb to equalise. We almost scored another straight away as Summanen found Angharad James, but Courtney Brosnan was quick off her line to close the angle and make the save. Both sides created chances in the second half. England fired straight at Brosnan on the hour mark, Sorensen’s free-kick was headed wide by Gabby George at the other end while Spencer made a good save to deny Jess Park and James saw a long-range effort go just over the bar with 13 minutes remaining. The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Beever-Jones picked out the bottom right corner for 2-1 three minutes into stoppage time. Everton: Brosnan, Veje (Hope 63), Sevecke, Bjorn, George, Wheeler, Christiansen (C) (Holmgaard 63), Park, Sorensen (Beever-Jones 71), Galli (Bennison 62), Snoejis (Stenevik 89). Substitutes (not used): Finnigan, Maier. Spurs: Spencer, Neville (C), Turner, Bartrip, Harrop, Summanen, James, Iwabuchi (Spence 53), Ayane (Karczewska 89), Bizet (Naz 77), England. Substitutes (not used): Korpela, Ale, Cho, Graham, Ubogagu. DEFEAT IN THE DERBY We were beaten 5-1 at home to Arsenal in the Women’s Super League on 26 March. Stina Blackstenius gave the away side an early lead and Caitlin Foord doubled it in the 28th minute. Bethany England reduced the arrears from the penalty spot with half-time approaching, but Kim Little scored from the spot in the second half, Foord added another moments later and Frida Maanum curled one over Tinja-Riikka Korpela with 13 minutes remaining. THFC 4 1 SPURS WOMEN BETH’S STUNNER SINKS FOXES Beth England struck an outstanding goal to give us three huge points against Leicester City recently and end our long winless streak in what was Vicky Jepson’s first game as Interim Head Coach. Jepson took charge just two days before we hosted Leicester, following the departure of Head Coach Rehanne Skinner after our 2-1 defeat at Liverpool in the WSL, and was given the perfect start as we battled to victory against the Foxes. In a game of few clear-cut chances, it was the visitors who went closest first just beyond the hour mark, Hannah Cain working her way into the danger area and seeing a powerful effort saved well by Tinja-Riikka Korpela at the near post before the away side nearly took the lead from the following corner. Molly Bartrip made a vital goal-line clearance before Leicester hit the bar from close range. The breakthrough came in the 66th minute as England seized the initiative, smashing the ball into the top right corner from the left edge of the 18-yard box - an incredible finish. It was a goal that lifted the team and the fans and we finished much the stronger side, Kit Graham and Rosella Ayane both missing opportunities to add to our tally. But we held out to record our first WSL win in 10 matches, much to the delight of our Interim Head Coach. “We’ve not felt a win for so long so hopefully that’s the boost that they need. The girls need to enjoy that feeling,” said Jepson. “It was a spectacular goal to put us ahead but we can’t forget how resolute we were out of possession, putting our bodies on the line to make sure we didn’t concede and keep that clean sheet.” Spurs: Korpela, Neville (C), Turner, Bartrip, Harrop, James, Spence, Summanen (Bizet 59), Karczewska (Iwabuchi 46), Ayane (Ubogagu 90+5), England (Graham 72). Substitutes (not used): Spencer, Ale, Cho. Leicester: Leitzig, Nevin, Tierney, Eaton-Collins (Pike 77), Whelan (C) (Siemsen 64), Green (Robinson 86), Howard, Goodwin (C. 4 2 THFC UNDER-21S UNDER-21S CITY STEAL THE SPOILS Our Under-21s fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to league leaders Manchester City after a battling performance at the Lamex Stadium on Monday night. Kallum Cesay expertly finished off a superb team move to put us ahead on 25 minutes but City found themselves level seven minutes later, Carlos Borges providing the finish after Adedire Mebude saw his shot blocked on the line by Max Robson. After the break, City were met by an inspired Josh Keeley in between the sticks, who denied the visitors on multiple occasions, but there was nothing our goalkeeper could have done when City captain Shae Charles glanced in substitute Ben Knight’s teasing cross to give them the lead on 65 minutes. As we piled on the pressure in the closing stages, Cesay had our best chance to level before Jamie Donley’s long-range attempt forced a good save from Cieran Slicker but the visitors held on to administer only our second defeat this calendar year. Spurs: Keeley, Robson (Cassanova 40), Abbott, Fagan-Walcott, Sayers, Cesay, Craig, John (Mathurin 67), Alonso, Donley, Soonsup-Bell (Williams 67). Substitutes (not used): Gunter, Dorrington. Manchester City: Slicker, Agyemang, Taylor (Knight 45), Charles, Simpson-Pusey (Smith 69), Robertson, Mebude, Breckin, Hamilton (Adam 81), Borges (Heskey 90), Bobb. Substitutes (not used): Grant. WAYNE REFLECTS ON CITY LOSS Under-21s Coach Wayne Burnett felt we were unfortunate to lose to Manchester City on Monday night and admitted he was pleased with the commitment of his team despite the result. “It was a very tough game against a very good City team,” said Wayne. “I thought at times we matched them with both sides having good chances in a close first half. They scored a very good second goal and we almost found the equaliser on more than one occasion. “I can’t fault the players’ effort, application and energy but it’s a disappointing result. I was impressed with our togetherness, how we worked as a collective and some of the football we played was good. We were up against a City team with very good players but we matched them at times with our style and identity but just failed to get the draw we deserved.” VITAL VICTORY OVER FOXES We made a swift return to winning ways with a key victory over basement side Leicester City at Stevenage on 17 March. In a game which pitted the division’s two bottom sides against each other, Alfie Devine’s deflected effort gave us an 18th-minute lead after Leicester defender Bayli Spencer-Adams had miraculously cleared two efforts off the line, Malachi Fagan-Walcott quickly doubled our advantage following a corner before Romaine Mundle put the burners on to make it 3-0 in the opening stages of the second half. Joe Wormleighton ghosted in at the far post to pull one back for the Foxes shortly afterwards but, while our performance wasn’t quite as impressive in the second half, we continued to dominate the game to ensure there was no sign of a comeback. Spurs: Keeley, Robson (Dorrington 84), Paskotsi, Sayers, Fagan-Walcott, Craig (c), Mundle, Cesay, Soonsup-Bell, Devine, Santiago (Donley 74). Substitutes (not used): Gunter, Mathurin, Abbott. Leicester City: Young (c), Wormleighton, Hill, Godsmark-Ford, Spencer-Adams, Lindsay, Booth (Briggs 71), B Amartey, Popov (Cover 46), Leshabela (Cartwright 58), Maswanhise (T Pennant 71). Substitute (not used): Odunze. NEW CONTRACT FOR JAMIE Jamie Donley recently signed a new contract with the Club that will run until 2027. The left-footed striker first made an impact in our Under-18 side during the 2020/21 season while still a schoolboy and after making further progress upon becoming a full-time scholar during the summer of 2021, he turned professional in January, 2022, finishing the 2021/22 campaign with a superb 17 goals in 21 appearances for the Under-18s. Capped by England and Northern Ireland at youth level, the 18-year-old has continued to shine this season and has featured regularly for both the Under-18s and Under-21s, sometimes playing in a deeper role with the latter and scoring his first Premier League 2 goal in a vital win at Liverpool at the turn of the year, which kick-started an unbeaten run for the team. Jamie, who joined the Club at the age of eight, also scored the first goal of our 2022/23 UEFA Youth League campaign against Marseille and went on to start five of our six matches in the Under-19 competition. “This is a very proud moment for me and my family,” said Jamie. “My whole family is pretty much Spurs so it’s a big moment for us! I’ve been here since I was eight years old so all I really know is Tottenham. Hopefully now I can carry on the way I’m going and hopefully make my way into the first team soon.” FIXTURES & RESULTS HOME FIXTURES PLAYED AT LAMEX STADIUM UNLESS STATED * PLAYED AT HOTSPUR WAY PL2 TABLE P W D L F A D PTS MAN CITY 21 14 5 2 65 24 +41 47 CHELSEA 23 12 7 4 51 32 +19 43 CRYSTAL PALACE 21 10 8 3 39 29 +10 38 LIVERPOOL 22 10 6 6 39 28 +11 36 FULHAM 21 8 7 6 42 30 +12 31 BRIGHTON 21 8 5 8 43 38 +5 29 ARSENAL 21 7 8 6 30 30 +0 29 EVERTON 21 8 4 9 33 38 -5 28 MAN UNITED 22 6 10 6 38 54 -16 28 WEST HAM 22 7 3 12 34 44 -10 24 BLACKBURN 22 7 2 13 35 44 -9 23 WOLVES 21 6 3 12 24 43 -19 21 TOTTENHAM 21 4 8 9 25 38 -13 20 LEICESTER CITY 21 2 6 13 21 47 -26 12 DATE H/A OPPOSITION RES AUGUST MON 8 A LEICESTER CITY 2-2 FRI 12 H EVERTON 0-2 SUN 21 A MANCHESTER CITY 0-0 FRI 26 H LIVERPOOL 3-3 TUE 30 A WYCOMBE WANDERERS (PJT) 0-0 SEPTEMBER SAT 3 A CRYSTAL PALACE 0-3 SAT 17 H BLACKBURN ROVERS* 1-3 TUE 20 A PETERBOROUGH UNITED (PJT) 0-3 FRI 30 A BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 0-4 OCTOBER SAT 8 H ARSENAL* 1-1 SAT 15 A WOLVES 1-4 TUE 18 A STEVENAGE (PJT) 0-1 SAT 22 H FULHAM* 1-1 SAT 29 H MANCHESTER UNITED 1-1 NOVEMBER MON 7 A CHELSEA 0-3 FRI 11 A WEST HAM UNITED 0-1 JANUARY SUN 8 A LIVERPOOL 2-0 MON 23 H WOLVES P-P FRI 27 A ARSENAL 2-1 FEBRUARY SAT 11 H BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION* 3-1 FRI 17 A EVERTON 1-1 MON 27 H CRYSTAL PALACE 1-1 MARCH FRI 3 A FULHAM 3-4 FRI 17 H LEICESTER CITY 3-1 APRIL MON 3 H MANCHESTER CITY 1-2 FRI 7 H WOLVES 1PM SAT 15 A BLACKBURN ROVERS 1PM MON 24 H CHELSEA 7PM FRI 28 A MANCHESTER UNITED 7PM MAY SUN 7 H WEST HAM UNITED 12PM UP TO AND INCLUDING 03.04.23 MALACHI FAGAN-WALCOTT IS ALL SMILES AFTER NETTING AGAINST LEICESTER TH20_42-43_Dev_Squad 170.indd 43 04/04/2023 14:50

4 4 THFC UNDER-18S UNDER-18S CANARIES BLOWN AWAY Our Under-18s continued their sublime form on Saturday as they scored four in a scintillating first-half display to dispatch Norwich City 4-0 in the Under-18 Premier League. Our youngsters came into this clash with just one defeat in their last eight - and they immediately continued in that vein of form. Dominating the early stages at the Lotus Training Centre, we made our strong start count with Yusuf Akhamrich opening proceedings eight minutes in with a low, left-footed strike into the far-right corner from just inside the box before Jaden Williams made it two from the penalty spot just four minutes later, the striker himself having been upended in the area. Williams doubled his tally on 27 minutes, tapping in the rebound after his second penalty of the match was saved by Norwich goalkeeper Beau Hudd – this time after Rio Kyerematen was brought down - before Damola Ajayi put the result beyond doubt with an excellent first-time finish on the stroke of half-time to cap a superb first-half performance that ultimately earned us all three points on the road. Spurs: Maguire (c), McKnight (Andiyapan 85), Linton (King 63), Morgan, Dorrington, Willhoft-King, Kyerematen, Hall (James 81), Ajayi, Akhamrich (Irow 63), Williams. Substitutes (not used): Bloedorn. DONLEY DOUBLE BRINGS DERBY DELIGHT Our Under-18s put in an inspired display to beat Arsenal 3-2 in a pulsating north London derby on 18 March. Striker Jamie Donley showed his class with two goals and an assist to cap a superb all-round performance, first crossing to Rio Kyerematen who volleyed home to give us the perfect start after five minutes. The intensity ramped up further as we looked to stamp our authority on the game and Donley doubled our lead when Jahziah Linton delivered a peach of a deep cross from the left channel and the forward rose high to glance his header past goalkeeper Noah Cooper to give us a two-goal advantage at half-time. We were caught napping after the break and two quickfire goals from Osman Kamara drew Arsenal level with half an hour remaining. But, just five minutes later, Donley was brought down by Cooper and confidently stepped up to deftly clip the ball down the middle from 12 yards. Luca Gunter was called into action late on to make two smart saves to preserve our lead, as we held out to pick up the three points. Spurs: Gunter (c), Abbott, Linton, Dorrington, Chaplin, Hall (Black 71), Kyerematen, Williams (Ajayi 63), Olusesi (McKnight 63), Donley (Irow 76), Moore. Substitutes (not used): Bloedorn. LATE DRAMA BOOKS FINAL BERTH Persistence paid off for our Under18s as Rio Kyerematen struck a sensational 89th-minute winner at Sheffield United to send us into the Under-18 Premier League Cup final on 14 March. Having stood up well to the Blades amid wintry conditions at their training ground, we finally found a breakthrough with the clock ticking down - and what a goal it was! Starting from goalkeeper Luca Gunter, we worked the ball from right to left and after some superb passes from Jahziah Linton, Jamie Donley and Mikey Moore, Kyerematen kept his cool in the box to slot home from the angle, sparking wild scenes among the entire squad. It was eerily reminiscent of the 2015 League Cup campaign at first team level - a tough semi-final away to Sheffield United with the snow falling, where a late goal from a certain midfield maestro booked our place in the final. This time it was another graceful midfielder in Kyerematen who came up with the goods as we advanced to face Aston Villa in the showpiece final in a few weeks’ time - the second League Cup final Stuart Lewis’ troops have qualified for after the Under-17s’ victory over Chelsea on penalties. Spurs: Gunter (c), McKnight, Linton, Dorrington, Chaplin, Abbott, Ajayi (Andiyapan 90+1), Kyerematen, Williams (Olusesi 74), Donley, Moore. Substitutes (not used): Bloedorn, Hall, Irow. 4 6 THFC THE MAIN COURSE As the first Indian chef to ever be awarded two Michelin stars, Atul Kocchar knows more than anyone the passion, precision and flair that is required to excel – whether that’s in the kitchen or on the football pitch. From taking over the helm at The H Club to hosting Premium members at his exclusive Mayfair restaurant, Kanishka, discover just why we can’t get enough of Atul and he can’t get enough of Tottenham Hotspur. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A CHEF? My grandfather was a baker and my father was an engineer who decided to start a catering business, so you could argue that with all these culinary influences around me, I was destined to enter the kitchen. However, it was still considered a revelation for me to pursue training as a chef at a time when becoming a doctor, accountant or lawyer was seen as the norm. I’m originally from north India and it was when I enrolled at hotel school in the south to master dishes not familiar to me, that I realised I wanted to become a chef and I’ve never looked back. WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO THE UK? After completing my training at an elite finishing school, I began working at The Oberoi Group – one of the most prestigious hotel chains in India. I was head-hunted in 1994 by the Mayfair restaurant, Tamarind. It was here that I obtained my first Michelin star in 2001. I then opened my own restaurant, Benares, in 2002 where I was awarded my second Michelin star in 2007. My current restaurant, Kanishka, has been open since 2019 where my focus is to elevate Indian cuisine with a twist, as well as transforming the fine dining experience. WHERE DO YOU SEEK INSPIRATION FROM? Everywhere because it’s all around you. The thing I love most about living in the UK is how diverse it is, which influences my cooking. I support a charity, ‘Action Against Hunger’, where I met a Ukrainian lady who introduced me to borsh dumplings and an Iranian man who cooked a lamb dish I’ve never tried before. Like football, the world of food doesn’t have boundaries either, which is a wonderful thing. Meeting and spending time with people from different backgrounds has encouraged me to think about food differently and embrace new ways to enhance my own craft. YOU’VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF COOKING IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND WORKING WITH CHEFS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS A UNIVERSAL DISH THAT IS APPRECIATED BY ALL? Pie. It’s a humble dish that exists in some form in almost every culture. Take, for example, samosas – they’re a type of Indian pie that are filled with vegetables. Thinking about pies is what led me to create my signature dish, chicken tikka pie. It’s an amalgamation of my two cultures – Indian and British – and it always goes down well when I cook at the stadium, everybody loves it. THFC 4 7 THE MAIN COURSE PIES BEING SUCH A FOOTBALL STAPLE TIES US NICELY INTO WHY YOU DECIDED TO BECOME A GUEST CHEF AT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM? I enjoy the challenge of cooking somewhere that isn’t your typical restaurant environment and experimenting with delivering an experience that’s just as amazing, albeit in a different setting. It’s a fascinating place to cook and the kitchen and facilities are superb. Also, the team are incredible, especially Regional Executive Chef, Mark Reynolds, who has done many great things to strengthen Premium spaces at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the wider food industry, so it’s always a pleasure coming here. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT HAVING YOUR FOOD SERVED HERE AT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM? What I enjoy most is speaking to guests and finding out just how much they love both football and food – it’s very heart-warming. It’s also great to find out what they’ve liked and use that feedback to inspire the next dinner to be even better. I also love the sense of teamwork that goes into hosting for the day – from preparing the food to making sure it’s served in style – which is apt given that this ethos runs throughout the football club. IS THERE A PARTICULARLY MEMORABLE MATCHDAY YOU RECALL? To be honest, I don’t have a particular one as every matchday is memorable to me! I love working at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium because of the atmosphere, the world-class facilities and the passion you get to see, hear and experience first-hand from fans. WHAT INSPIRES THE MENU YOU CREATE AND SERVE ON MATCHDAY? I like to use most recipes from my own restaurant to give guests an authentic experience of what I would normally serve. The only change I do make is around the timing of when dishes are served. Every second is crucial when it comes to the game itself and I wouldn’t want anyone to miss any of the action. Ideally, I would like to serve all three courses before the game, so supporters have time to savour their food as well as the football, but I try to be flexible to make sure they enjoy the best of both worlds! ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR DIFFERENCES ON DELIVERING A MATCHDAY COMPARED TO YOUR RESTAURANTS? The main difference is that because you’re a partner chef it isn’t your kitchen, but the space quickly becomes your own. Organisation and prepping are key. I arrive on the site a few days before matchday to make sure that I have everything I need. On the day itself, I have to pay meticulous attention to detail – almost like flying a plane – to make sure everything is delivered on time and, most importantly, to perfection. FINALLY, WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHTS AND WHAT DO YOU HOPE FOR THE FUTURE? To receive two Michelin stars is a real privilege – a feat I’ll always be immensely proud of – as well as my honorary doctorate from Southampton University. As for the future, I hope to continue cooking for a very long time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It’s without a doubt one of the best places I have had the pleasure of hosting dinner and I’m excited to see what the future holds for our partnership. THFC 4 9 FOUNDATION The Club is proudly backing Premier League Supports, a campaign used to celebrate the impact that Premier League-funded activity has on the local community, at today’s home match against Brighton. Running from 1-9 April, the campaign highlights the positive work being done by the Premier League, Clubs and their Foundations to create life-changing opportunities and experiences for people across their communities. To mark the campaign, all Clubs were invited to nominate ‘One of Our Own’ - an individual who has shown exceptional commitment and long-term contribution in their community. ONE OF OUR OWN Jadon Anderson’s story encapsulates the spirit of ‘one of our own’ having made the incredible journey from programme participant to full-time coach over an eight-year journey with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. In 2015, Jadon was taking part in one of our Kicks programmes and his passion for football and helping others led to the Foundation putting him through a coach education programme that resulted in him becoming a member of staff on the very programme he was once a participant. Jadon has since excelled as a coach at Kicks and is now joining the Club’s elite Global Coaching team, travelling to Hong Kong where he will deliver a programme on behalf of AIA to young, budding footballers across Asia. After being presented with his award, Jadon said: “It was an honour to receive Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘One of Our Own’ award. I have been a part of this Club since the age of 14 and it has helped me become the person I am today. I have loved the journey from being a Kicks participant to a Foundation coach, all the way through to my next venture as part of our Global Coaching Team. I look forward to running more sessions with many more talented young people and being part of this incredible Club for many more years to come.” Jadon will be making a special guest appearance at half-time during today’s match, when he will receive recognition from Club Ambassador, Ledley King. Please show your appreciation for ‘one of our own’. SHOWCASING THE WORK OF TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FOUNDATION PREMIER LEAGUE SUPPORTS TH20_48-51_Foundation 2.indd 49 04/04/2023 15:26
