6 ANGE POSTECOGLOU THFC

THFC ANGE POSTECOGLOU 7 “The noise you make is so inspiring to us all and I’m looking forward to hearing it again today” was so proud of the character and resilience the players showed last Sunday at the Emirates Stadium. To go behind twice, away from home, against a good side, conceding an own goal and a VAR penalty, it would have been easy for our heads to drop. However, there was a real belief in the kind of team we want to be, even when things were stacked against us. The players kept persevering, were brave and we asserted our dominance on the game for periods. That’s a great sign because we’ve got challenges ahead. We’re going to hit more road blocks and obstacles we need to overcome. The squad have shown, though, that they have the right attitude and belief in what we’re doing, and that will see us continue to make progress. While Sonny and Madders will get the headlines for their two goals and assists, it was a real team effort with mature performances all over the pitch from young players, some of whom are still early in their Premier League careers. We may be unbeaten in the league, however no-one is getting carried away. I We’re six games in to the season having had a high turnover of players, almost a new team and a new style of play. It’s an encouraging start, that’s all, and we have to keep working on that. This afternoon we face Liverpool and I should like to welcome Jurgen Klopp, his players, staff and everyone associated with the Reds. They have made a strong start to the season and I’m sure will be challenging at the top of the table come the end of the season. We know this is another tough test against a top team and while it may be viewed as a marker of the progress we’re making, we’re taking it game by game. One thing I can assure you, however, is that we will give everything this afternoon. We won’t sit back and in terms of the way we play, we’re not changing. It’s an exciting game for everyone, we want to be involved in these big matches and attempting to overcome the challenges in front of us. I know we’ll do that with your incredible backing. The noise you make is so inspiring to us all and I’m looking forward to hearing it again today.

THFC I N T H AT N U M B E R 9 We’ve seen 11 players don our number four shirt since the inception of Premier League squad numbers, but one name leads the way at the top of the list. Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld enjoyed six successful years with us after joining from Atletico Madrid in July 2015, having spent the previous season gaining Premier League experience on loan at Southampton. He’d won four successive league titles before moving to the south coast, the first three with Ajax before helping Atletico to the La Liga title in his one season in Spain. Tall and commanding, with a great understanding of the game, there was no hesitation from Mauricio Pochettino to throw him straight into the team and he made his debut at Old Trafford on the opening day of the 2015/16 season. With the number four on his back, Alderweireld played every minute of our Premier League and Europa League campaigns that term as he racked up 49 appearances and made himself a lynchpin of our defence over the next six years. He went one better in 2018/19, reaching a half-century of games as our No 4, including wearing the jersey in the Champions League Final against Liverpool. In total, he featured an impressive no.4 in that NUMBER As this season marks 30 years since the introduction of squad numbers in English football, we take a closer look at the names and numbers that have formed our matchday squads since 1993/94 – and even further back in our history. NO.4s…APPEARANCES SINCE 1993/94 1. Toby Alderweireld 236 2. Didier Zokora 134 3. Steffen Freund 131 4. Younes Kaboul 111 5. David Howells 92 6. Vinny Samways 47 7. Oliver Skipp 31 8. Cristian Romero 30 9. Gica Popescu 28 10. Sean Davis 17 11. Nicola Berti 4

1 0 I N T H AT N U M B E R THFC 236 times in the No 4 shirt, a tally which places him fifth on our all-time list and – since 1993/94 – he’s made over 100 appearances more than the next name on the table. Second on the list since the inception of squad numbers is midfielder Didier Zokora, who might have only been with us for three years but was almost ever-present in that time as he featured 134 times as our No 4. Signed from St Etienne in July 2006, the Ivory Coast international was an energetic defensive midfielder who excelled at breaking up play and winning tackles. He wore the No 4 shirt when we defeated Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final in 2008, but failed to find the target for us during his 134 appearances. That was a fate that also befell Steffen Freund, who features third on our list of appearances in our No 4 shirt since 1993/94 – just three behind Zokora on 131, but also without scoring for us. A real cult figure among the Spurs fans, Freund arrived in north London in December 1998 and was given the number four shirt which Nicola Berti had worn in the first half of the 1998/99 season but had vacated by the time Freund joined. Another defensive midfielder who loved a tackle, he was a genuine workaholic whose commitment to the cause certainly helped boost his standing among the Tottenham faithful. The only other player to break the 100-game barrier in our No 4 shirt in the Premier League era is Younes Kaboul, the French centre-half whose most famous moment in the jersey came when he headed home our winner in a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates in November 2010. He featured 111 times in the number four shirt. Three more midfielders appear next on our list in the form of David Howells, Vinny Samways and Oliver Skipp – the current owner of our No 4 jersey. Samways first wore the shirt back in the 1987/88 season and, during his time at Spurs, also wore Nos 7, 8, 9 10, 11, 12 and 14 at various times! Cristian Romero took on the No 4 shirt when he first joined us on loan from Atalanta and wore it 30 times in 2021/22 before moving up to the No 17 jersey, while Romanian midfielder Gica Popescu is another to have only had the number for one season back in 1994/95.. IN OPPOSITION… Steve Nicol had been at Liverpool for over 10 years when he became the first recipient of Liverpool’s number 4 shirt following the introduction of squad numbers in 1993/94. The Scottish right-back wore it on 35 occasions that season and five more in 1994/95 before it was taken over by Jason McAteer. Over the next 22 years, players including Phil Babb, John Scales, Rigobert Song, Sami Hyypia and Kolo Toure were given the No 4 shirt before current incumbent Virgil van Dijk arrived on Merseyside in January 2018. The jersey was vacant on his arrival so he immediately took it over, wearing it for the first time as he scored the winner in a 2-1 FA Cup victory over Everton. He has now worn it on 225 occasions for the Reds. NO.4s…TOP 10 APPEARANCES ALL-TIME (1946 TO PRESENT) Some of the greatest names in the Club’s history can be found on our all-time list of players to have worn our number four jersey. And, appropriately leading the way with 380 appearances as our No 4 is Danny Blanchflower, who captained us to the League and FA Cup ‘Double’ in 1960/61. First donning the jersey away to Manchester City in December 1954, Blanchflower went on to become an all-time Spurs great, adding the 1962 FA Cup and the 1963 Cup Winners’ Cup to his and our honours list. 1. Danny Blanchflower 380 2. Alan Mullery 367 3. Bill Nicholson 273 4. Graham Roberts 261 5. Toby Alderweireld 236 6. John Pratt 200 7. Didier Zokora 134 8. Steffen Freund 131 9. Younes Kaboul 111 10. THFC I N T H AT N U M B E R 1 1 The first time the number 31 shirt was ever worn here at Spurs was for the visit of Liverpool back in November 2000, as young defender Alton Thelwell made his senior debut for us. The Academy graduate had spent time on loan at Swedish outfit IFK Hassleholm in April that year but was thrust into the Premier League limelight seven months later when George Graham’s side was out of form and struggling with injuries. Thelwell was given the nod and turned in an impressive performance against our illustrious opponents, playing his part in a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane wearing the No 31 jersey. In total, Thelwell appeared 21 times for us before being released in June 2003 – all in the No 31 shirt – and he heads the list of players to have worn that number for Spurs. All three players to have featured in our No 31 shirt came through our youth set-up, with Dean Marney and Andros Townsend also on the list. Midfielder Marney made his Spurs debut against Birmingham City in August 2003 and featured three times that season in the jersey, with a loan spell at QPR sandwiched in between. After another loan at Gillingham, he returned to Spurs and enjoyed the highlight of his time with us on New Year’s Day in 2005, scoring twice in a 5-2 defeat of Everton in N17. He made 11 appearances as our number 31 before moving to Hull City. Townsend, meanwhile, made a goalscoring debut wearing the No 31 shirt when he opened the scoring in an FA Cup tie against Charlton Athletic in January 2011. It was his only appearance that season, sandwiched between loan spells at Ipswich Town and Millwall but, in the first half of the 2011/12 campaign, he featured a further seven times in the jersey for us, scoring again against Shamrock Rovers. It was a similar story in 2012/13 as he appeared on 11 occasions before joining QPR on loan for the second half of the season. When he returned to N17 for the 2013/14 season, he moved up to take on the No 17 shirt and established himself in the side over the next two years before joining Newcastle United in January 2016. No.31 NO.31s…APPEARANCES SINCE 1993/94 1. Alton Thelwell 21 2. Andros Townsend 18 3. Dean Marney 11 ANDROS TOWNSEND

THFC NEWS 1 3 We announced this week that we have reached agreement for Luka Vuskovic to join the Club in 2025 from Hajduk Split, in a deal which will run until 2030. C r o a t i a n d e fe n d e r L u ka , 1 6 , progressed through the ranks at Hajduk Split to make his professional debut in February, 2023, to become the youngest player to feature in the Croatian top flight. He registered his first goal the following month against NK Osijek, becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer news DESK in the club’s history. To date, he has made a total of 11 senior appearances for the Croatian side in all competitions, scoring once and last term, helped the team claim the Croatian Cup. Luka also played a key role in the Under-19s’ route to the 2022/23 UEFA Youth League final, where they would eventually finish as runners-up. Capped by his country at youth level, Luka has made five appearances for Croatia’s Under-17 side, scoring once. Heung-Min Son scored his 149th and 150th goals for the Club in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal to move up to sixth on our all-time goalscoring list. Having hit a hat-trick in our 5-2 win at Burnley, our skipper scored a brace at the Emirates on Sunday – the first Spurs player ever to do so in the Premier League – as we twice levelled having fallen behind in N5. And his second of the afternoon saw him reach the milestone of 150 goals for us in all competitions. He is now the sixth player in our history to have scored 150 goals in our colours and is nine off a place in our  top five with Cliff Jones currently sitting in fifth with 159 goals to his name. M e a n w h i l e , R i c h a r l i s o n reached his Premier League half century of goals with our equaliser in the 2-1 win over Sheffield United last time out here. It was the Brazilian’s second Premier League goal in our colours since joining us from Everton in July 2022, and his fifth goal in all competitions. Of his 50 goals in the top flight, five came in his debut season in England at Watford while he scored 43 goals in his four campaigns with the Toffees. Finally, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg made his 150th appearance in our colours when he came off the bench against Sheffield United, while Ivan Perisic’s appearance in the same game was his 50th for Spurs. All-time top goalscorers: 1. Harry Kane - 2011-23 - 280 goals in 435 appearances 2. Jimmy Greaves - 1961-70 - 266/379 3. Bobby Smith - 1955-64 - 208/317 4. Martin Chivers - 1968-76 - 174/367 5. Cliff Jones - 1958-68 - 159/378 6. Heung-Min Son - 2015-present - 150/379 We were sorry to hear of the passing of Tony Smith, a former Spurs defender who died in Durban, South Africa on 22 September, at the age of 81. Joining us an amateur in August 1957 and turning professional two years later, Tony was a highlyregarded centre-half who featured regularly for our youth team. He would progress to play for our ‘A’ team and Reserve side, winning league titles at both levels, however the strength of Bill Nicholson’s first team made it difficult for Tony to break in. He did play two matches for the senior side, friendly games Vuskovic to join Spurs Tony Smith RIP against Reading in October 1959 when just 18, and Leytonstone in December 1964. He moved to South Africa after leaving Spurs, playing for the likes of Southern Suburbs, Addington – where Spurs legend Peter Baker was the manager – Durban Spurs, Durban United, Durban City and Hillary. Smith would later go into management, becoming the manager of South African side Bush Bucks for a time during the early 1980s. He leaves behind his loving wife Gail and children Brian, Kinn and Ian, and we extend our condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.  SONNY CLIMBS TO SIXTH

THFC F R O M T H E VAU LT 1 7 AUSTRALIA IN THE ARCHIVE This week, we turn to our Head Coach Ange Postecoglou for inspiration on this archive share, as we delve into the collection to discover items relating to his homeland of Australia. Whilst our first Club visit to Australia came in 1976, it is from our tour Down Under in 1985 that we have the most objects in our collection. We faced many Australian teams during that 1976 tour, playing matches in Melbourne, New South Wales, Sydney, Adelaide and Western Australia. The 1985 visit was, however, much more high profile. The wooden and metal plaque pictured above is from the Australian Soccer Federation International Tournament. The event was the $200,000 International Tournament, where we faced the Australian national team, Udinese of Italy, and Vasco da Gama of Brazil. Also pictured here are gifts from the South Australian Soccer Federation, based in Adelaide and dated from the match against Vasco da Gama and a silver salver, unfortunately slightly tarnished, from the 1985 Australia Tour. In the build up to the tournament, the visiting teams featured prominently in football magazines and papers, like Soccer News and Soccer Action. At the time of this 1985 tour, English clubs were facing a ban on taking part in both European and international football and so, before the Tour began, it looked as though this would be their last series of matches outside England for a while. An interview with manager Peter Shreeves was titled, ‘No picnic for Spurs’, where he referred to tours they had been on in the past, specifically to Swaziland with today’s opponents Liverpool. Within the interview he discussed the pressures of being considered representatives of Britain or England, when our focus was mainly to be representatives of our own Club and that while other English clubs sometimes treated these overseas tours as a holiday, this was not his intention. Despite the messaging prior to the start of the tournament, we lost our first game. The matches were reported on in the Australian Soccer News and Soccer Action publications. The 1-0 loss to the Australian national team had a long match report and was followed by a second article which focused on the behaviour of the benches of both teams, mainly reporting what was being said by both managers and their backroom staff, none of which is printable in a matchday programme! During the tournament we also suffered a loss to Udinese and drew with Vasco da Gama. Overall, a disappointing set of results. The team did go on to salvage some pride on the final day of the tournament by beating Udinese 4-1 in a third/fourth place play-off. In addition to this tournament, Ossie Ardiles was also set to make an appearance for an Australian team, St George’s. St George’s are a team from Sydney and were founded by Hungarian immigrants in 1957. Despite the freedom he was, according to the Australian reports, allowed during the match, he was unable to help his team secure a win against rivals Marconi. These are just a small selection of the objects we have in the collection related to Australia, and the wider world. WORDS BY SIAN ALLPRESS Our popular feature is back for another season as we dig into the club archives to examine the items and objects which have helped shape our history…

1 8 THE BIG INTERVIEW THFC

THFC THE BIG INTERVIEW 1 9 OUR DESTINY! n Italian city surrounded by the Lessini Mountains arranged like seats in a theatre, Verona is a place in which William Shakespeare’s legacy is felt strongest as the location for his famous play Romeo and Juliet. ‘In fair Verona, where we lay our scene’ wrote the famous English bard in 1597, a city that also sets the prologue for Destiny Udogie’s tale and where the stage was set for a player with a football love affair to take his first steps to Spurs stardom. So, after securing a dream move to the Club from Italian side Udinese in 2022 and immediately returning on loan to gain more first team experience last season, the 20-year-old is now shining bright in his first spell in England since reporting in at Hotspur Way this summer. “When I signed for Spurs, it was the biggest dream,” beamed Destiny. “From where I started before and then to sign for the Club, it’s like it wasn’t real. “It was a dream come true but now I’m here so I want to show my quality, to prove myself and help my teammates and I will give my best every day to make sure I keep improving and achieve more here.” At Udinese, Destiny impressed as a wing-back in their 3-5-2 system and was signed for his huge potential in this more advanced defensive position. The fact that the Italian used to watch clips of former Real Madrid and Brazil full-back Marcelo, a player with excellent technical quality who placed emphasis on his attacking influence over his defending, gives you an insight into how he likes to play the game. S i n c e j o i n i n g u p w i t h A n g e Postecoglou this term, the defender has had to adjust to the demands of playing in our Head Coach’s all-action system where full-backs, not wing-backs, are asked to invert whilst fulfilling their defensive duties as well as contributing in attacking areas. But the defender has flourished in his new role to start every Premier League game under Ange so far in 2023/24, contributing in attack with two assists in away wins over Bournemouth and Burnley and then putting in solid defensive displays like he did against Arsenal last time out. It’s been an impressive start to life in Lilywhite for the Italian, who has been helped in part by having a familiar face in Guglielmo Vicario and a friendly environment in the squad but also developing his game through the tactical coaching from Ange and his staff. “The whole team was really nice,” explained the Italy Under-21 international. “I was lucky Vic came at the same time, but everyone helped me to settle in easily. It was perfect for me to have teammates like them because, once I came, it was like I’d known them for 10 years. “Ange and his staff work really well together. We trust the manager, the way he makes us train, shows us how to play and how to stay calm under pressure. I think every manager teaches you something new and the gaffer is teaching me how to play inside more so I’m getting used to it and developing a lot. “I grew up watching a lot of clips of Marcelo, I was such a big fan. I loved the way he played under pressure and had the quality on the ball. But now I’ve matured, I like to watch myself play to analyse where I’m sometimes making mistakes and where I can improve my game. “I’m trying to study the role as much as I can in the new position because I was a wing-back but now I’m playing inside more so it’s really different. You have to read the game, know the timing and get into good spaces so I’m getting used to it more with every game and with the help from Ange, his staff and my teammates I can feel myself improving.” Given how quickly Destiny has adjusted to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League, it is easy to forget that the player is still young and WORDS BY WILL HOLDERNESS We had to bide our time to see DESTINY UDOGIE in a Spurs shirt, as he completed a season-long loan at Udinese last term, but it’s been well worth the wait! We caught up with the Italian defender who has started life in N17 in some style. A

2 0 THE BIG INTERVIEW THFC And the Spurs go marching on and on and on and on and... Proud partners of Tottenham Hotspur

THFC THE BIG INTERVIEW 2 1 honing his craft but his 83 senior appearances across the top divisions in Italy and now England shows an experience and maturity beyond his age. Born in a suburb of Verona to Nigerian parents, his Nigerian first name Iyenoma means ‘good news’ and it was evident from a very young age that he was made for football when his mother noticed his desire to kick over objects in the family home. It all started at local side Nogara where, at four years old, he joined in with his older brother’s team after becoming discontent at just watching from the sidelines and quickly stood out amongst his peers. At 10, Hellas Verona gave him a two-game trial but he was initially not accepted after struggling to impress. Despite the setback, his defining moment was just around the corner when he signed for their academy after showcasing his talent and potential in a two-week training camp. His father has played an influential role in his career, initially taking his son to Hellas academy training and matches and then driving him to all senior away games across the country as Destiny progressed through the youth ranks to make his Serie A debut at 17 against Milan in the San Siro. The defender was progressing well in his homeland and joined fellow Italian top-flight side Udinese in 2020/21, a two-hour move east where he was living away from his family for the first time. It was a brave decision but the right one for his development, going on to contribute eight goals and seven assists in 71 matches at Stadio Friuli whilst also representing Italy at every age group between Under-16 and Under-21 level. “I grew up in a small city close to Verona,” said our number 38. “No one in my family played football, it was just me and my brother, but my mum told me when I was a baby I was kicking everything over in the house. “I was playing for a local academy from four to 10 years old, then I went to Verona for my first trial and I remember the first two games didn’t go very well and I was really sad. When they called me back for two weeks training, that’s where I proved myself and from there I stayed until I was around 17 and made my senior debut. “My father was always there to take me to Verona to train, I was lucky because every time I had an away game, he would always take me there, so I was lucky to have that support. My debut was against Milan, it was during Covid so there were no fans which was a little bit disappointing, but it was a dream to play in Serie A. I will be forever grateful to Verona for everything. “Udinese was a new world, I left my family behind and didn’t know anybody there, but it was the right move for me, so I was happy with it, and it ended up being a very good challenge. Everything was good, it was my first season as a full professional, so I wanted to prove myself and it went well.” Destiny has hit the ground running in our colours and delivered some consistent displays that have grabbed the attention of his Head Coach and supporters alike. The defender got off to a dream start with a debut goal against West Ham United on our pre-season tour in Perth to give everyone a glimpse of what was to come. Having such an attacking full-back seemed an exciting proposition when he first joined, but the former Udinese man has perhaps surprised with his all-round “We trust the manager, the way he shows us how to play and stay calm under pressure”

2 2 THE BIG INTERVIEW THFC In our last league outing, Destiny Udogie got his first taste of the north London derby in a Spurs shirt as we put in a spirited performance to twice come back from behind to draw 2-2 at Arsenal. Up against one of the most in-form attackers in the Premier League in Bukayo Saka, our number 38 had the difficult task of keeping last season’s PFA Young Player of the Season quiet. It looked as though the Italian was in for a long afternoon when, on 14 minutes, he was booked for a tackle on Saka and then the winger subsequently created the opening goal by cutting inside our left channel to send a shot in via a deflection off Cristian Romero. For the remainder of the game, against the odds, our left-back stuck to his task admirably and was still on the pitch at the close of play. Using his speed, strength and composure, Destiny put in a complete defensive performance to keep the England international quiet for the vast majority and also won 10 duels, eight tackles and five regains of possession. “It was my first derby for Tottenham, the atmosphere was incredible,” said the 20-year-old. “We knew it was a big game for us and the fans, it was special. Obviously, we didn’t win but it was a good game from both sides.  “To come back twice from going behind was a great effort from the team, this is our spirit now. We’re trying to show that we never give up until the game is over, that we’re always in the contest, and to show everybody what we’re about. “It was a great battle against Saka, it was not easy! It was my first time playing against him but I knew he was a great player and Arsenal use him a lot, they give him the ball, so it was a nice challenge. “I got booked early, but I believed in myself and my quality, so I left him to receive the first touch but after I was there with him. It was very intense but I’m happy with the good performance.”

THFC THE BIG INTERVIEW 2 3 game and just how well he has slotted into our back four to become our first choice left-back. After his mature performance at Arsenal to limit Bukayo Saka’s threat down our left for long spells in the game, up next is an unbeaten Liverpool side who have none other than one of the most prolific forwards in the league in Mo Salah who also operates off the right-hand flank. The Reds arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as arguably the most in-form team in the Premier League after extending their unbeaten run to 17 games with a recent 3-1 victory over West Ham. The Egyptian, who is in red hot form himself, has now scored or assisted in his last 12 top-flight fixtures and has three goals and four assists to his name already this term. However, the prospect of facing two-time PFA Player of the Year winner Salah is a challenge Destiny is relishing and a match he feels will be difficult for Jurgen Klopp’s side given our energy on and off the pitch with the spirit and work-rate in the squad and the incredible atmosphere generated by our fans in N17 to help us maintain our perfect home record as we also aim to remain unbeaten in the league under Ange. When asked about facing Liverpool and going toe-to-toe with their talisman, he said: “Playing up against Salah is going to be a very big challenge for me and the team. “Everybody knows he’s a very good player and I have to prepare well and give my best so I’m really looking forward to it.  “We train very hard every day, so we want to be able to ]run more than the other teams. We try to be fit so if we lose the ball, we are ready to counter-press the opponent and this is something the gaffer wants from us as players, so we have to keep the strong spirit and work hard every day. “It’s going to be a tough game but a nice game for both teams so let the best team win!” On experiencing the scenes at home this campaign, the Italian added: “The stadium, the fans and the atmosphere in the stadium is incredible! “I think playing at home, it’s going to be really tough for them to play against us. With the help of our fans, we have to just be together and try to win the game.” “We train very hard every day, so we want to be able to run more than the other teams”

THFC OPPOSITION 2 9 NICKNAME: THE REDS FOUNDED: 1892 STADIUM: ANFIELD ALL-TIME MOST APPEARANCES: IAN CALLAGHAN (857) ALL-TIME TOP SCORER: IAN RUSH (346) In charge at Anfield since 2015, the 56-year-old German has been a prolific collector of trophies for the Reds, winning the Premier League in 2020 along with the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup. Ahead of his move to Merseyside, Klopp held the reins at Borussia Dortmund, where he won the Bundesliga twice, the DFB-Pokal as well as reaching the Champions League final in 2013 (they lost out to Bayern Munich at Wembley). Klopp’s side have come out of the traps in impressive fashion this term following a summer of squad upheaval. Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho were among the senior players to depart, with incomings including Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. Five wins from six league games so far suggests that Klopp’s ‘Liverpool Reloaded’ project is on the right track to deliver success this season. We’d found ourselves 3-0 down after just 15 minutes before an incredible fightback began with Harry Kane’s goal before half-time. Heung-Min Son pulled another back before Richarlison struck in stoppage time to earn us what appeared to be a valuable point. Dele and Giovani Lo Celso put us 2-0 up in eight minutes, before our Slovenian guests pulled one back. Kane then stepped off the bench to score a 19-minute treble. 30.09.17 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 0-4 SPURS PREMIER LEAGUE Harry Kane scored a brace as we defeated Huddersfield Town on this day six years ago. His double and a strike from Ben Davies put us 3-0 up after 23 minutes at the John Smith’s Stadium before Moussa Sissoko opened his Spurs account with a late goal. 30.09.97 CARLISLE UNITED 0-2 SPURS LEAGUE CUP Leading 3-2 from our League Cup second round, first leg with Carlisle United in 1997, we finished the job at Brunton Park as David Ginola converted a penalty and Chris Armstrong netted six minutes after the interval. 30.09.89 SPURS 3-2 QPR DIVISION ONE Gary Lineker’s first goals at the Lane after joining from Barcelona came in this win against QPR – and he scored all three! Rangers fought back from 2-0 down with goals from David Bardsley and Trevor Francis before Lineker completed his treble to win it. DANNY ROSE SPURS 1-1 LIVERPOOL 27.08.16 WHITE HART LANE Trailing to a James Milner penalty in our third league game of 2016/17, we salvaged a point through an unlikely source. Eric Dier’s cross was flicked on by Erik Lamela to Danny Rose, who controlled on his chest and fired past Simon Mignolet from eight yards out with 18 minutes left. JAN VERTONGHEN LIVERPOOL 3-2 SPURS 10.03.13 ANFIELD Super Jan Vertonghen only scored six Premier League goals in our colours and two of them came in this game. His DEFENDERS TO SCORE v LIVERPOOL WINS ON THIS DAY brace put us 2-1 up at Anfield after Luis Suarez’s opener, but Stewart Downing and a Steven Gerrard penalty gave the Reds the win. BASSONG/ASSOU-EKOTTO SPURS 2-1 LIVERPOOL 16.08.09 WHITE HART LANE Two for the price of one in our 2009/10 season opener. Benoit Assou-Ekotto rifled home his first Spurs goal to give us the lead and, after Steven Gerrard levelled, Sebastien Bassong headed in on his Spurs debut to secure all three points. JAMIE CARRAGHER SPURS 2-1 LIVERPOOL 01.11.08 WHITE HART LANE Incredibly, Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher put through his own net three times against us! The final time came in this victory in 2008 shortly after Harry Redknapp took charge of us, as Carragher cancelled out Dirk Kuyt’s opener before Roman Pavlyuchenko scored a late winner. NEIL RUDDOCK SPURS 2-0 LIVERPOOL 31.10.92 WHITE HART LANE Our first-ever Premier League clash with the Reds ended in victory at White Hart Lane, with centre-half Neil Ruddock netting our second goal in the 72nd minute. THFC M AT C H D AY C O U N T D O W N 3 5 COUNTDOWN 28.11.12 SPURS 2-1 LIVERPOOL PREMIER LEAGUE WHITE HART LANE Out of form ahead of this game with just three wins in 10 games in all competitions, we picked up a big victory thanks to goals from Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale inside 16 minutes. Bale also scored an own goal on 72 minutes but we held on to win. 21.03.90 SPURS 1-0 LIVERPOOL DIVISION ONE WHITE HART LANE Paul Stewart stepped off the bench to settle this clash 33 years ago. Although we’d dominated for large parts, it remained goalless until Paul Gascoigne floated over a cross and Stewart sent a header from 15 yards out curling past Bruce Grobbelaar, just 10 minutes after coming on. 04.09.71 SPURS 2-0 LIVERPOOL DIVISION ONE WHITE HART LANE Bill Nicholson’s side had suffered a hefty 4-0 defeat at Manchester City the week before but bounced back in style against Bill Shankly’s Liverpool. A goal either side of half-time from Martin Chivers and Martin Peters did the damage. RAY CLEMENCE Legendary England goalkeeper who joined Liverpool from Scunthorpe United in 1967 and went on to become a key part of their all-conquering side of the 1970s. He won five league titles and three European Cups among a host of trophies before moving to Spurs in the summer of 1981 and added the 1982 FA Cup to his medal haul while also featuring prominently in our successful 1984 UEFA Cup campaign. Played over 900 times for both clubs. BRAD FRIEDEL Ohio-born shot-stopper who first played in Europe with Galatasaray in 1995/96 before spending a year back in the USA with Columbus Crew. Joined Liverpool in December 1997 and featured 30 times during three years at Anfield before a successful eight-year stay at Blackburn Rovers. He spent three further years at Aston Villa before moving to N17 in June 2011. Ever-present in the Premier League in his first season, he had four years with Spurs and made a total of 67 appearances, retiring at the end of the 2014/15 season. 1972/73 Ourselves and Liverpool must have been sick of the sight of each other by the end of the 1972/73 season after the two teams faced off on no fewer than six separate occasions! We met twice in three different competitions, starting with a Division One clash at the Lane in November which the Reds won 2-1. The return at Anfield was a draw, a point which took Liverpool a step closer to winning the league championship which they duly achieved, beating Arsenal by three points. We drew Liverpool in the fifth round of the League Cup, winning 3-1 in a north London replay with goals from Martin Chivers (2) and John Pratt after a 1-1 draw at Anfield. And, finally, we met in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup. Alec Lindsay scored the only goal in the Reds’ home win in the first leg while we won the return 2-1 at the Lane thanks to a Martin Peters double. But Steve Heighway’s goal for Liverpool proved decisive as they progressed to the final on away goals. They beat Borussia Monchengladbach in the final, while we picked up silverware of our own by lifting the League Cup with victory over Norwich City. 3 6 OPPOSITION VIEW THFC irstly, how much of a dream come true was it for you to play for Liverpool, in addition to Newport County, Oxford United, Real Sociedad and Tranmere Rovers, during your career? I used to go and watch every Liverpool home game when I was a kid and go on the train to watch them away when I could afford it in the 1970s. I went to my first game when I was seven. I was a huge fan of Roger Hunt… or ‘Sir Roger Hunt’ as we call him in Liverpool. Growing up, all I ever wanted to do was play for Liverpool. And I wanted to wear the number eight shirt that Roger Hunt did. I feel very fortunate that I was able to do both things. What do you class as your big highlights in a Liverpool shirt? The first title win with Liverpool (1987/88) was very special. I played 104 games for Liverpool and scored 63 goals, which I was proud of. We won the league and we also won the FA Cup (1989) while I was there. We should have won more things, thinking of the penalty miss in the FA Cup Final the previous year (1988 – when Wimbledon won 1-0) and then there was the season Arsenal won the title at Anfield with the last kick of the game. I was fortunate to play for Liverpool during a fantastic era in the club’s history with great players like John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Ray Houghton etc. What memories of matches against Spurs spring to mind from your career? My biggest memory of playing against Spurs was for Oxford United as I scored against one of my big idols in Ray Clemence. We lost on the night (2-1 in an FA Cup third round replay on 8 January, 1986) at White Hart Lane but with Ray having been something of a hero to me growing up, it was incredible to play and score against him. During my Liverpool days, we won a match 2-1 at White Hart Lane (26 March, 1989), when I scored a penalty. It was an important result at that time because we were in the race for the title. Who are the Spurs players you have admired over the years? I can remember Spurs in the late 1960s/70s, as I was really getting into football. Jimmy Greaves was an incredible player…one of the greatest goalscorers we’ve ever seen. I was able to score 474 goals during my career and Jimmy got 468…albeit he could argue all his were scored as a top-flight player. It was still a major honour for me to be in that sort of company. I remember the Spurs striking OPPOSITION VIEW F Each matchday, ANDY GREEVES speaks to a player that formerly turned out for our visitors. Today, ex-Liverpool forward JOHN ALDRIDGE, who scored 63 goals in 104 appearances for the Reds between 1987 and 1989, looks back on his time at Anfield. “I remember the Spurs striking partnership of Alan Gilzean and Martin Chivers when I was growing up. They were an incredible pairing”

THFC OPPOSITION VIEW 3 7 partnership of Alan Gilzean and Martin Chivers when I was growing up. They were an incredible pairing. In more recent years I got to meet Martin Chivers and what a lovely man he was. I felt quite in awe of him because he was a player I looked up to as a kid. Gazza was a player I admired massively during my playing career. I’ve spent some time in Gazza’s company in the past and what a top bloke he is – and what a player he was. What have you made of Spurs and Liverpool’s respective starts to the season? Five wins and a draw from the first six matches this season… you really can’t ask for much more than that from a Liverpool perspective. The performances Liverpool have put in have been good. The new midfielder has re-energised us. Dominik Szoboszlai has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water. He looks like he’s going to be a top player. Alexis Mac Allister has been brilliant too. I’ve always been a bit of a closet Celtic fan. Ange Postecoglou was incredible there, not only in terms of the trophies they won but the football they played under him. I think he’ll be an excellent appointment for Spurs and we’re seeing it already to be honest. He’s really stamped his mark on this team already. When you lose a player as important as Harry Kane, it can be very hard. But it can also work in your favour strangely sometimes, as the other players start to share the load more. I think we’ve seen that with Spurs this season…they have really stepped up collectively. James Maddison has been a great signing for Spurs. A playmaker in the mould of some of the great attacking midfielders Spurs have had over the years. Both Spurs and Liverpool are playing really well at the moment, both teams are full of confidence. It all makes for a great game today. What do you think it will be possible for Liverpool to achieve this season? Without meaning to sound smug about it, Liverpool are renowned for winning trophies and that’s the benchmark for any Liverpool side. It’s been that way since the 1960s. Manchester City are looking very difficult to stop from winning the Premier League this season, but it would be great to see Liverpool push them closely and win a trophy. I would absolutely love to see Liverpool win the Europa League this season, not least because the final is in Dublin! Can you tell us a bit about what you’ve been up to since retiring from playing? I had five years as manager of Tranmere Rovers. That was an enjoyable time. We had some great cup runs, getting to the League Cup Final in 2000. These days, I just continue to enjoy watching Liverpool. I’m at all the home games with around a dozen former players who do the hospitality on matchdays. We all enjoy doing what we do and watching the matches. I’ve done that for 20 years or so. I’m also the chairman of the former players’ association (Forever Reds). We help raise funds for former players who have fallen on hard times as well as keeping an active link with former players. “Liverpool are renowned for winning trophies and that’s the benchmark for any Liverpool side” JOHN ALDRIDGE MANAGING TRANMERE AGAINST LIVERPOOL IN 2001

THFC T H E D A LY C O L U M N 3 9 He’s ruthless too, continually overperforming his xG – scoring more goals than expected given the quality of chances he’s had. Few players are as good in one-on-one situations. But his first goal at the Emirates showed a poacher’s instinct, making a near-post dash to meet James Maddison’s perfect cut-back. His second was one of the most composed finishes you’ll ever see in the heat of a north London derby – a fitting way to score his 150th for Spurs. Having scored in four of his last five games against Liverpool, the Spurs skipper is likely to be key in ending a near six-year wait for a win against the Reds – wherever he plays today. nce the ball clipped the inside of David Raya’s far post, settling into the back of Arsenal’s net, a thought quickly hit me – Heung-Min Son is a really good striker. It may be an obvious observation, given he’s a seven-time Korean footballer of the year, named on Ballon D’Or shortlists with a Puskas Award and Premier League golden boot to his name too. But all of these achievements have been for his work on the left-wing. This season, his five league goals have all come while playing at centre-forward – the hat-trick against Burnley and his double at Arsenal. It’s a number he didn’t hit until mid-February in the previous campaign – in part down to the winter World Cup and injuries (including a fractured eye socket) but he acknowledges his own difficulties. “Last season was probably the toughest season I’ve faced but, also, I learned the most – more than when I was 18,” he revealed at the recent fan forum. “Yes, it was tough, but it’s part of my life and, as a player and a human being, it’s made me stronger.” He certainly seems refreshed and galvanised – not only by the arrival of Ange Postecoglou but also the responsibility of being captain. The new Head Coach has praised his versatility too – and during a half-hour cameo up front away to Bournemouth, Son’s quality was there to see. We all know about his ability to threaten teams in behind, but the 31-year-old also showed shrewd backto-goal work, linking up smartly with Destiny Udogie centrally in the build-up to Dejan Kulusevski’s goal. The following game at Turf Moor, he led the line in lethal fashion scoring three fantastic goals. But what about left wing? Well despite the Ivan Perišić injury, Postecoglou has plenty of options. Manor Solomon, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson can play out there, while Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon are also working their way back to full fitness. But despite looking comfortable up front, Son has never played regularly in the position for Spurs. I think back to the occasions during 2018/19 when he showed his capability to play the role, scoring a fine volley in a 3-0 Wembley win over Borussia Dortmund. After commentating on last weekend’s north London derby for SPURSPLAY, ROB DALY decided to share his thoughts in this week’s column on two-goal skipper Heung-Min Son. HEADS UP! Jurgen Klinsmann powers home a header despite the close attention of Dominic Matteo to open the scoring against Liverpool in March 1998. It was a Premier League clash in N17 in which we always seemed to hold the upper hand and yet couldn’t finish the job as Liverpool clawed their way back three times to salvage a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw. After our German striker had given us the lead on 13 minutes, Steve McManaman levelled eight minutes later before David Ginola restored our advantage early in the second half. Back came the Reds though, Paul Ince this time bringing them level on 64 minutes. When Ginola delivered a corner for Ramon Vega to make it 3-2 with just 10 minutes remaining, it looked like we might have finally broken Liverpool’s resistance. But Allan Nielsen then sent an overhead kick crashing against the crossbar and seconds later, McManaman punished us again with an 89th-minute equaliser after Michael Owen’s initial shot had struck the post. 4 2 SPURS WOMEN THFC ENGLAND APPOINTED CAPTAIN Bethany England has been named as our new captain ahead of the start of the new Women’s Super League season, which kicks off for us tomorrow with a visit to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea. The experienced England international striker joined us from the Blues in January 2023, and enjoyed a terrific start to life in north London, scoring 13 goals in 14 games in all competitions and being named both our Adult and Junior Supporters’ Player of the Season. A former WSL Player of the Season in 2019/20, Bethany was part of the England squad that won Euro 2022 and was a World Cup finalist with the Lionesses this summer. She is currently undergoing rehab following recent hip surgery. Molly Bartrip and Olga Ahtinen have been named vice-captains. Bethany said: “It means a great deal – I’m very humbled and thankful that I’ve been given the opportunity to lead this football club. I’m excited to get going with the girls, get out onto that pitch and hopefully give some good moments – and some good winning moments especially – to the Club. “I’m very much a people person. I value everyone, I think there’s a lot of responsibility on being able to speak up when things get difficult and I think on top of that, it’s good to make sure that there’s good morale in the dressing room. Everyone knows that you play your best football when you’re happy. “I’ve obviously met Robert (Vilahamn) a few times now, I’ve seen the style of play that he’s trying to implement and it’s great to see how much the girls have taken that on board.” Head Coach Robert Vilahamn said: “Bethany is a true professional who always gives her best and demands the best from her environment. She’s a winner and a great role model for others as she always puts the team first. Together with this, she is a very humble person who treats everyone with respect, which makes her the perfect leader and ambassador for Tottenham Hotspur. “Molly and Olga are very similar to Bethany as they are very professional footballers who perform and demand excellence in everything they do, both on and off the field, and at the same time they always treat people with respect. They always want to develop and with their great leadership qualities, they set an example for the team to follow.” SPURS WOMEN SPURS WOMEN NEW SKIPPER BETHANY ENGLAND WITH VICE-CAPTAINS OLGA AHTINEN AND MOLLY BARTRIP

THFC SPURS WOMEN 4 3 WELCOME ZHANG AND MARTHA! We welcomed two new players to the Club recently, as forwards Zhang Linyan and Martha Thomas joined Robert Vilahamn’s squad on deadline day for the women’s transfer window. Zhang Linyan arrives on loan from Chinese Women’s Super League club Wuhan Jianghan University and the 22-year-old China international will link up with us in October following the conclusion of the Asian Games, where she is currently representing her nation. Linyan spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Grasshopper Club Zürich in Switzerland and, as a senior international for China since 2022, she won gold with her country at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup and recently featured in all of China’s matches at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Martha Thomas has joined from Manchester United and has signed a contract with the Club that will run until 2025. The 27-year-old moved to the United States at a young age and represented Charlotte 49ers in college soccer, before beginning her professional career in France with Le Havre in 2018/19. She arrived in the Women’s Super League with a two-year spell at West Ham United and joined Manchester United in 2021. Martha represents Scotland at international level and won the Pinatar Cup with them in 2020, where she was joint-top scorer. NARROW DEFEAT TO UNITED IN FINAL PRE-SEASON GAME New signing Martha Thomas made her first appearance in our colours against her former club, but ultimately it was Manchester United who escaped with a 1-0 victory from our pre-season friendly at St George’s Park on 17 September. The forward put in an impressive shift against her old employers before being withdrawn mid-way through the second half as we sought a way back into the game, following Lucia Garcia’s first-half goal for United. Having gone close to an opener through Olga Ahtinen, United took the lead moments later, though, as Garcia seized possession and fired into the net in the 26th minute. United’s England goalkeeper Mary Earps saved from Drew Spence and Eveliina Summanen but while we had some good spells of possession in the midfield and forward areas and made it difficult for United to mount any more meaningful attacks of their own, we were unable to find an equaliser. Spurs: Spencer (Votíková 59), James (Pearse 81), Bühler, Bartrip (c), Neville (Ale 59), Summanen, Ahtinen (Percival 59), Spence (Graham 67), Bizet (Ayane 59), Clinton, Thomas (Naz 67). 4 4 UNDER-21S THFC WINNING STREAK IS EXTENDED Our Under-21s continued their perfect start to the season with a professional 2-0 away win over Stoke City on Monday night (25 September). We had to bide our time before taking a deserved first-half lead through Nile John and then Jamie Donley’s penalty, while Josh Keeley kept our two-goal advantage intact with a superb fullstretch save to deny Jaden Dixon on the stroke of half-time. We dominated for long spells after the break but failed to capitalise as Donley, who orchestrated proceedings throughout, saw his free-kick saved by Stoke captain Blondy Nna Noukeu before Will Lankshear hit the upright and Jude Soonsup-Bell and Yago Santiago were denied by an impressive double save from Noukeu in the final stages. The Premier League 2 victory maintained our record of winning every game in every competition at this level so far this term. Stoke City: Noukeu (c), Curl, Tchamadeu, Dixon, Otegbayo (Kamga 58), Reddin (McGuinness 76), Kershaw, Sidibe (Griffiths 76), Wright-Phillips, Lowe (Jeffers 33), Jojic. Substitute (not used): Houston. Kick-off will be at 7pm – tickets are on sale online in advance or at the ground on the night. Meanwhile, our Premier League Cup fixture away to Peterborough United Under-21s on Sunday 12 November will now be held at the Vic Couzens Stadium in Stamford. Kick-off remains at 1pm. RECORD WIN OVER COLCHESTER Four goals in 20 second-half minutes blew Colchester United away as we stormed to our biggest-ever win in the EFL Trophy last week (Tuesday 19 September). Leading 1-0 at the break through the superb Jamie Donley, who has roots in the Colchester area, we produced an excellent performance to romp to a 5-0 victory at the JobServe Community Stadium, Donley adding another to his tally with Jude Soonsup-Bell also bagging a well-taken brace and Will Lankshear heading home, moments before being replaced by Alejo Veliz for his debut in our colours. Josh Keeley made a couple of important saves at the other end as the League Two side, who made 11 changes from their draw with Mansfield Town three days earlier, applied spells of pressure at times, but once we got into our stride there was no stopping us as we put an early three points on the board in Southern Group D. Substitutes (not used): Maguire, McKnight. TROY ON TARGET Troy Parrott opened his Eredivisie goalscoring account in style last Saturday with a corker in Excelsior Rotterdam’s 3-0 win at Heerenveen. Making his third substitute appearance for the Netherlands-based outfit, who he joined on loan in August, the striker entered the fray from the bench for the final 17 minutes and went on to score his side’s third and final goal two minutes from time. Starting the move off inside his own half, he helped his team go from defence to attack in a flash before Kian Fitz-Jim cut the ball back to the Republic of Ireland international on the edge of the box, who curled spectacularly into the top right-hand corner. The win saw Excelsior move up to seventh in the Eredivisie table with two wins and three draws from their first six games. MEMENTOS FOR DEBUT DUO Matthew Craig and George Abbott have received commemorative encased footballs from the Premier League to mark their debuts in the competition. The young midfield duo both made their first senior competitive appearances for us in the 4-1 win at Leeds United on the final day of last season. Matthew replaced Yves Bissouma with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining while George came on in stoppage time in place of Oliver Skipp. The pair became the latest players from our Academy to appear for our first team in the Premier League and, as has been the case for several youngsters in recent years, they have now received special mementos to mark the occasion. 4 6 UNDER-18S THFC DESERVED WIN OVER ROYALS Our Under-18s made it four wins on the spin with a 3-0 home victory over Reading last Saturday (23 September). Riding a wave of momentum after the recent triumphs over Arsenal, Blackburn and Brighton, we dominated the first half at Hotspur Way, taking a deserved lead through Mikey Moore but then failing to capitalise on a number of other opportunities in the opening 45 minutes. The visitors tightened up after the break and posed us a few more challenges, but two goals in as many minutes around the hour mark from Ellis Lehane and Moore sealed the three points with a number of good individual performances also on show. Spurs: Bloedorn, Black, King, Chaplin (c), Rowswell, Hall, Irow (Egan-Riley 85), Olusesi (Morgan 66), Ajayi (Lehane 46), Moore, Akhamrich (James 66). Substitute (not used): Krasniqi. BRIGHTON BEATEN Ellis Lehane scored a first-half brace to help our Under-18s beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 on 16 September. Making his full debut for the side, Lehane led the line and showed his goalscoring instincts as he steered home two low crosses from close range to capitalise on our fast start to proceedings which saw us go two up inside the first 20 minutes. Yusuf Akhamrich and Oliver Irow netted either side of the break to give us a four-goal cushion before the Seagulls rallied late on to halve the deficit through Ronnie Gorman and Shane Nti. But our earlier advantage proved enough to secure all three points at Hotspur Way. Spurs: Bloedorn, Black, King, Chaplin (c) (Arganese-McDermott 73), Rowswell, Irow (Egan-Riley 85), Morgan, Hall, Akhamrich, Moore (Orr 85), Lehane (James 62). Substitute (not used): Krasniqi. DERBY JOY FOR UNDER-17S Our defence of the Under-17 Premier League Cup began with a 5-2 victory over Arsenal at Hotspur Way last week (Wednesday 20 September). The team – primarily made up of first-year Under-18s players – won the trophy last season and kicked off this term’s group stage in style, Herbie James, Kieran Morgan (2), Ellis Lehane and Luca Williams-Barnett on target against our north London rivals. 5 0 NEWS THFC to deny Josh King in the second half, until Davinson Sanchez popped up with a 96th-minute header to give us a victorious start to the calendar year. LEICESTER CITY 2-3 SPURS - 19 JANUARY, 2022 When it comes to late finales this one is right up there, too. Like London buses you wait a while for one to arrive and then two arrive in quick succession as we staged an incredible comeback one league game after the Watford win thanks to heroics from super sub, Steven Bergwijn. After Harry Kane had cancelled out Patson Daka’s opener and James Maddison, now in our colours, had put the Foxes back in front with 14 minutes remaining, Leicester were moments away from victory until Bergwijn, introduced in the 79th minute, bagged a late brace in two injury-time minutes to steal all three points at the King Power. MANCHESTER CITY 2-3 SPURS - 19 FEBRUARY, 2022 It was Club record goalscorer Harry Kane who delivered the knockout blow on this occasion as his header in additional time sparked wild celebrations in the away end at the Etihad Stadium. Earlier, Dejan Kulusevski’s fourthminute strike had put us ahead before Ilkay Gundogan equalised midway through the first half. We regained the lead through Kane just before the hour mark and City thought they had saved a point when Riyad Mahrez converted from the spot after a VAR review in the 92nd minute, only for the England international to double his tally three minutes later in a frantic finish in Manchester. 2019/20 WOLVES 1-2 SPURS - 15 DECEMBER, 2019 Jose Mourinho’s side travelled to Molineux faced with the prospect of finding a way past Wolves who were unbeaten in 11 league matches going into this fixture. Lucas Moura’s superb mazy run and finish gave us the perfect start eight minutes in but we were pegged back when Adama Traore slammed in a deserved equaliser midway through the second half. Looking for a hero to save us, who else but Jan Vertonghen arrived in the 91st minute to head in a corner – cue his ‘Super Jan’ celebration! ASTON VILLA 2-3 SPURS - 16 FEBRUARY, 2020 Heung-Min Son scored in both first and second-half stoppage time as we rallied late on to win at Villa Park under Jose Mourinho. We fell behind nine minutes in via Toby Alderweireld’s own goal but the Belgian more than atoned for his error by equalising with a lovely shot on the turn that flew high into the net on 27 minutes. On the stroke of half-time, VAR intervened to award us a penalty after Steven Bergwijn was brought down by Bjorn Engels in the area, with Sonny poking in the rebound after his initial penalty was saved by Pepe Reina. Engels then drew his side level eight minutes after the restart before our number seven capitalised on the Belgian defender’s error to run through and slot in the winner. 2018/19 SPURS 1-0 BURNLEY - 15 DECEMBER, 2018 Following Lucas Moura’s late equaliser against Barcelona in the Nou Camp to send us through to the Champions League knockout rounds a few days earlier, we left it late next time out as JAN VERTONGHEN SCORES AT WOLVES HARRY KANE WAS THE HERO AT CITY HEUNG-MIN SON NETS AT VILLA
