Granite is an igneous rock, meaning that it is formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. This creates a tough and durable rock, able to withstand climate changes, rain, sleet, snow, and salt. Granite will be difficult to scratch using a knife blade. This makes granite an excellent choice for headstones and monuments since it is heat and water resistant. Color variations usually appear as colorful flecks throughout the stone.

What is a Bevel Marker? A small, flat piece of stone or metal set with or approximately with the level of the ground. Also called a lawn-level marker. An outdated term is a flush marker. A marker with an extreme slant face and usually with a nosing at either the top or bottom, or both. Standard slant markers have a polished slant front, 2” bottom nosing, sawn back and rock pitched top and sides. Western Slants are the same as slants except the polished face that is towards the viewer continues all the way to the ground instead of having a beveled front or nosing.
