Acknowledgment
Working for Myra as a creative intern on the branding team was one of the best
working experience I have ever had. Other than graphic designing, I have learnt a
lot on branding/marketing strategies, improving my video editing skills, as well as
discovering my interest in copy writing during these 3 months.
I have to thank my mentors, Elizabeth Ang and Nabila Wawan, for guiding me
along this journey. Liz and Nabila had been nothing but patient and forgiving. I’m
grateful that we were able to learn from one anohter by sharing our knowledge
with each other.
Further on, I would like to thank my manager, Akil Hassan for all the eye-opening
opportunities and the tremendous amount of trust he has in me. I appreciate his
efforts on making time to check-in on the interns despite his busy schedules.
I would also like to give special thanks to the culture team, Ruiz Hakeem and
Aleesya Halim for providing mental support with all the words of encouragement.
Lastly, I would like to thank my intern buddy Shah Tantash for accompanying me
as well as being a good partner to work with along side.

Scope of Work
description of my internship
March - April
In the beginning of my internship, my main focus was more on video production.
However, I was always called to help to solve minor graphic design-related issues
here and there. I was lucky enough to travel to different project sites to take photos
and videos before the third lockdown. I had to help plan, shoot, and edit the videos
alongside Shah, the videographer intern. I was given the chance to explore the
world of video production because I mentioned that it has always been a passion
of mine during my interview before I was recruited. Thankfully, I could apply the
knowledge of angles and lightings that I have learned from my photography class
when I shoot videos too. There were two main types of videos that I have worked on,
which are internal videos and collaborating videos with external vendors. My video
editing and animation skills have improved drastically by using Adobe Premiere
Rush and Adobe After Effects for almost every other day.
28
April - May
In the second month of my internship, I was looking for a better balance between
graphic design and video production works. I’ve started to help design posts for
Myra’s Instagram, but I didn’t have to think or plan about the content for it at that
time. I had to follow strict branding guidelines when it came to designing posts. It
was then I realized the difference between designing under strict guidelines and
having complete freedom with the designs I did in college. In the meantime, I have
gotten a lot more confident and comfortable with video production. Therefore, I
was trusted in planning and executing bigger, more ambitious projects such as the
Ramadan Challenge as it involves a lot of cooperation with the people of Myra.
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Rush, and Adobe Photoshop are the main
software that I have used to edit my artworks during this time round.
May - June
During the last month of my internship, I’ve had my
focus shifted from video production to mainly graphic
design. Not only that but I was also allowed to try out
content writing and copywriting. I never expected that
copywriting was something that I’ll end up doing during
this internship, but it was an eye-opening opportunity
for me. Fortunately, I was able to put my English writing
skills from semester one to use towards the end of my
internship. I was still involved in minor video editing
works occasionally, but I’ve contributed a lot ofeffort into
content writing and graphic designing for Myra’s social
media. I spent most of my time on Adobe Illustrator
and Adobe Photoshop at this moment in time.
29
My Learnings
This internship has taught me that creatives like me should not limit or enclose
themselves to only one spectrum in this industry. Opportunities are everywhere and
we just have to spot and fight for them at the right time. From my experience, I’m
glad that I was able to get my hands on media-related projects rather than just
graphic design tasks. Not only I’ve picked up a new skill set during this internship,
but I was able to see myself improve drastically on my existing skills day by day. My
dream of becoming a videographer and editor has been fulfilled. No matter how
exhausting it gets, being able to see your artwork out in the world at the end of the
day is one of the most rewarding feelings ever.
The only limitation is our
creative mind.

I’ve been overwhelmed with a lot of freedom to express my creativity in various
formats during these three months. Graphic design, video production, and content
writing are the three main tasks that I was responsible for throughout my internship.
You’ll always find me in meetings with the team to carry out discussions and
brainstorm ideas for new content.

Project #1: VP Day
PROJECT BRIEF:
To document Myra Alam’s Vacant Possession (VP) process, also known to be the day
where homebuyers will be getting the keys to their new home. Photos and videos
will be taken and compiled into videos to help promote Myra’s projects and services.
PROCESS:
A few days before the day of the shooting, I’ve visited the project site with the team
to have a sneak peek at what goes on during VP. I took some photos of the environ-
ment for easy referencing when I’m back at the office as the project site is located
at Puncak Alam. A few days later, I helped plan and drew the storyboard alongside
the videographer. I’ve also gathered a few reference videos to show the team to
help the rest of our team to visualize our plan a little better.
CHALLENGES:
The hot and sunny weather was one of the main challenges as it has caused our
cameras to overheat. Some scenes in the storyboard did not make it to the final cut
due to the time limitations. Even with SOPs, it was still a risk to be doing shoots with
strangers amid covid.
TAKEAWAYS:
I learned that it is okay if things don’t go according to plan, we just have to pick it up
quickly and move on with a new plan. I have also gained a new level of respect for
production crews who can withstand the high heat during outdoor shoots.
33
Project #2: Desa Myra
PROJECT BRIEF:
To document the night of Desa Myra, a minor company gathering to celebrate Hari
Raya by having a “buka puasa” session together. Videos and photos will be taken
and compiled into a short video for internal use.
PROCESS:
Our team has been planning and discussing Desa Myra for about a week. During
our discussions, we agreed to prepare a photo booth, mini-games as well as a prize
for the best dressed. Unfortunately, our team had to go through several meetings to
restructure the event plan due to restrictions on SOPs. Therefore, we had no choice
but to split the event into two different days so that we will not exceed the number
of guests as set by the government. Apart from that, the videographer and I drafted
out a list of things that we could film or photograph on that event night just so we
have a rough idea of what the video will turn out to be.
CHALLENGES:
It was a little nerve-wracking for me to be walking around the company with a
camera in hand as our people are not used to being around cameras. I was afraid
that I wasn’t able to capture their genuine reactions, but thankfully everything
turned out just fine.
TAKEAWAYS:
I learned that the knowledge that I have gained through photography class
has been very valuable. I’m really glad that I was able to apply my knowledge to
videography as well such as angles, lighting, balance and so much more.
34
Project #3: Instagram
PROJECT BRIEF:
To design and write daily content for Myra’s Instagram
account. Given themes are lifestyle, educational,
festival and home living content. They could be
designed in either carousel format or a static image.
PROCESS:
From the beginning of my internship, I’ve been told to
follow Myra’s branding guidelines in all of my artworks.
Initially, I only had to help design the posts as the
content are already written out by my supervisor. But
after a few tries, I’ve been able to write the content as
well. The design process starts with a brainstorming
session. Then, I had to draft out a list of the ideas I had
and get approval from my supervisor. Next, I’ll have to
prepare the copywriting for each post and get them
checked before moving on to the design part. Then, I’ll
design the posts using Adobe Illustrator and it has to
go through a final checking to see if amendments are
needed before it’s posted out.
CHALLENGES:
Since I’m new to copywriting, it was a big challenge for
me. Thankfully, my supervisors are always patient with
me and they never fail to point out any of my mistakes.
I am truly grateful for their guidance and tolerance
as my copywriting skills have improved a lot when
compared to the time I first started.
TAKEAWAYS:
I learned that trying new things that are out of my
comfort zone could be intimidating. But once I’ve
taken my first steps and I’m willing to learn, I’ve gained
myself a new skill set that will be useful in my career.

My Thoughts
From my point of view, the graphic design industry is considered to be one of the
luckier sectors surviving this pandemic as most of us are still able to carry on with our
works at home with our laptops. But in reality, many design agencies are struggling
to find new jobs and projects similar to how some of our branding projects and
campaigns have to be delayed. I am one of the blessed ones to have the privilege
of working as an in-house designer and I’m able to maintain my lifestyle, where a
lot of other businesses out there are struggling to survive and breakthrough.
Working from home had made it hard for me to keep up with a healthy work-life
balance as I tend to lose track of time. I’m sure that many other designers out there
struggle with creative burnout more often too like myself. It’s safe to say that I’d prefer
working in the office and visiting project sites as I miss having human interactions
and going out to eat good food during lunch break. We are truly blessed to live in
this technologically advanced era where communication isn’t a concern for us.
38
Reflection 39
My Experience
Overall, the knowledge and skillsets that I have learned in college for the past
semesters have been very helpful in my internship. I am glad that I was able to put
most of the knowledge that I have gained to use. These basic skill sets of mine have
given me many opportunities in both learning and sharing. The most common
skills that I have used during my internship were photography, illustration, digital
imaging, and computer graphics. I’ve also received multiple compliments on my
portfolio for it is nicely done.
The proudest moment of my internship is when I was able to pick up videography
and video editing software quickly, despite it not being part of my course. Not only
that, working alongside the marketing team has regained my interest in marketing-
related works even with marketing being my least favorite subject in college.
Most importantly, I have learned that things work differently in the outside world
compared to studying in college. Therefore, we students should always remain an
open mind that’s willing to learn when working in the real world. The art and design
industry is not built for just skilled people as it is a career that’s highly driven by
passion and interest.
40
After 3 months of working with Myra,
it is safe to say that I have improved
in many different aspects of being a
designer. Especially working as an in-
house designer, I tend to push myself
more to top myself up every time as
I am highly dependant on it. I am
happy and proud to be able to see
myself improving day by day not only
in design but also in language and my
response towards critiques .
Not only that, but this internship has
also taught me to believe in myself
more as I lack self-confidence when
it comes to expressing myself at
times. I must not forget that all my
dedication, hard work, and efforts will
be recognized as long as I belong in
the right environment. I have learned
to embrace my strengths to the max
as well as to learn from my mistakes
and weaknesses.
Thanks to Myra, I now have a new perspective on this industry from all the
opportunities that were given to me through this internship. I wish to continue
making videos behind the camera as well as to learn more about video production
in the future whenever there’s a chance for me to do so. However, I will never forget
my love and passion for graphic design. I hope that one day I’ll be able to have a
design mentor that I look up to and learn from when I get to join an agency one day
in the future.
