Insurance covering Educational expenses in case of Accidental Death of
bread winner parent
Every year the school recevies 2 to 5 applications from helpless mothers informing about death
of child(ren)’s father in an accident/illbness etc. The father was the only bread winner in the
family and now there is no source of income. In such situation, the mother is left with no option
but to request for fee concession or fee waiver as she is a housewife and has no money for her
child(ren)’s education and that the sudden and untimely demise of her husband has disturbed
the financial situation.
As life is uncertain and to protect the interest of children’s educations in such a situation the
school in association with TATA AIG General insurance Ltd. has decided to cover this risk as
well. As per this insurance policy, in case of sudden, untimely and unfortunate death of either of
the bread winner parent in an accident (not due to any illness), the insurance will pay Rs. One
lakh per child to the school for child(ren)’s school education. Any unspent balance left out of Rs
one lakh will be given to the student after passing class 12.
For example
Situation 1: A father of a class 2 student dies in an accident. The insurance will pay Rs. One lakh
to the school for continuation of the child’s education. Suppose the yearly school fee is
Rs.35,000. So this Rs.One lakh will be used for that child’s education for next three years and
the parent will have to pay after three years i.e. after the child passes class 5.
Situation 2: A father of class11 student dies in an accident. The insurance will pay Rs.One lakh
for continuation of the child’s education. Suppose the yearly school fee is Rs. 50,000. So the
school will use Rs.50,000 as fees for class 12. The balance of Rs.50,000 will be given of the
student when the student passes class 12.
This one lakh per child will cover school fee expenses only. Books and uniforms will not be
covered.
The annual premium for Rs.100,000 educational expenses in case of accidental death of bread
winner parent is Rs.100 only.
