WELCOME The Lake Forest Chapter of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago (IWS Family Health) is delighted to welcome you to our 19th Showhouse & Gardens. This year’s event brings together 40 exceptionally talented interior and landscape designers who have worked tirelessly for many months to transform empty design spaces into inspired expressions of personal style. We are grateful for their time, talent, generosity, flexibility and commitment to Infant Welfare. This elegant home is set on nine acres of beautifully landscaped property, including a five-acre conservation area. Walter Frazier designed the estate in 1969. The 16-room red brick, five-part structure features two low, flat- roofed one-story links leading to two wings on the east and west. The first-floor primary bedroom wing has five rooms. The home has six bedrooms and 4.3 baths. All of the main rooms open to a blue stone patio and gracious lawn. There is a charming caretaker’s cottage, an additional outbuilding and a separate three car garage. We are grateful to the current homeowner for graciously allowing the Lake Forest Chapter of Infant Welfare Society to transform her home to benefit a wonderful cause. Our deep appreciation goes to our lovely and talented Showhouse Honorary Chairs, Ashley Whittaker and Timothy Whealon. These Elle Decor A-List designers are traveling all the way from New York to spend the afternoon of May 8 with us, sharing their design inspirations and stories. Thank you also to Emma Bazilian, Content Director at FREDERIC and co-author of Schumacher’s new book, Charm School, for moderating our event with Ashley and Tim. Their partnership and enthusiasm for the Showhouse and IWS Family Health is greatly appreciated. In addition to our talented and dedicated designers, this tradition would not be possible without the commitment of many other special friends—the City of Lake Forest, our generous donors, sponsors, advertisers, vendors and fabulous board members. It is because of their collective commitment and support that the Showhouse has become a reality. Your attendance makes this endeavor a true success. We appreciate your support more than ever this year. Funds raised from the 2023 Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens will enable IWS Family Health to continue to provide comprehensive healthcare to Chicago’s underserved families. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us. We hope you enjoy “The Show”! HONORARY CHAIRS ASHLEY WHITTAKER & TIMOTHY WHEALON Ashley Whittaker is an Elle Décor A-List interior decorator who has run her design business in New York City since 2006. Described as the “neo-traditionalist,” Ashley Whittaker reveals her fresh and modern perspective on traditional design and architecture in all of her work, which is characterized by colorful, pattern-filled rooms. Her first book, The Well-Loved House: Creating Homes with Color, Comfort and Drama, was published in September 2021 by Rizzoli. 15 Timothy Whealon is a Sotheby’s trained Elle Décor A-List interior decorator. His work is rooted in classicism, with a modern twist and an emphasis on the fine and decorative arts. His designs are enhanced by both his extensive knowledge of the international art and antiques market and by his team of skilled artists and craftsmen who create many of the custom furniture pieces found in his signature interiors. The first monograph of his work, In Pursuit of Beauty: The Interiors of Timothy Whealon, was published by Rizzoli in 2015. Ashley and Timothy have been friends since early in their careers. They share a love of antiques and the artful mix of the high and the low. Together they have embarked on many shopping excursions filled with an abundance of laughter and fun. Ashley and Timothy look forward to discussing their friendship, anecdotes from their travels, and their shared passion for design at the keynote lecture, during the opening weekend of The Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens. Emma Bazilian is a design writer and editor and is the content director at FREDERIC magazine and FSCO Media. She was previously an editor at House Beautiful magazine, where she coined the term “grandmillenial”. Schumacher Books, a division of FSCO Media, and Monacelli, a Phaidon Company, are proud to announce the release of Charm School: The Schumacher Guide to Traditional Decorating for Today. In the new book, FSCO Content Director Emma Bazilian and Art Director Stephanie Diaz dive into old-school decorating techniques that are making a comeback in a fresh, new way. From cozy canopied beds and cheeky needlepoint pillows to treasured personal collections and antique furniture, the book guides readers on how to execute traditional design for the next generation. Charm School is part of our commitment to inspire the design community and to champion interior designers. The book was released to the general public on March 8, 2023. EMMA BAZILIAN

2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS 23 A MESSAGE FROM . . . IWS FAMILY HEALTH Chief Executive Officer Dear Friends: Children and families are at the heart of IWS. The extraordinary legacy of this organization is rooted in providing the very best health care to those in need. For over 114 years, the Auxiliary has led with a love of children and families and guided this organiza- tion through many challenging times. The IWS Auxiliary provided support for services to children and their families during times of high infant mortality rates, two World Wars, the Great Depression, and now COVID-19. The impact of the pandemic continues to have a great impact on our communities. It seems that in our world, we will always face obstacles that will impact the delivery of important healthcare to those in greatest need. Love for our work, our mission, and our families has helped us to weather many storms and there is so much for the Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens to celebrate. I am reminded every day of all the patients who come through our doors who are not so fortunate. They have families and loved ones that are near and dear to them but the hardships of life are often seen in their faces. What I also notice when they come into our home is that they are greeted and cared for by an amazing staff who make them feel wanted and respected as they seek out medical services. Growing up, I was taught that the true measure of a person’s character is what they would do if they knew they would never be found out. For some reason this always resonates in me, and I have lived much of my life following this principle. I say this because the character of the Auxiliary is that you don’t do what you do to be found out in the world. What you do comes from your heart and in return thousands of people get to experience the results of that heart in the care we give. I wanted you all to know that I personally am deeply and profoundly impacted by each of you and the tireless giving you do each year. So, thank you for always being here when we need you most and for always never turning away from us. Please come visit our health center, so I can show you what your efforts, time, and commitment have given all of us. It is truly extraordinary. On behalf of the patients, staff and Board of Directors, I thank the sponsors, designers, volunteers and Showhouse homeowners who have made this 2023 Lake Forest Showhouse & Gardens possible and support healthy minds and bodies for the thousands of people we serve. Sincerely, Jerry Isikoff, PhD, Chief Executive Officer Infant Welfare Society of Chicago 773-782-2800 - www.InfantWelfare.org

2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS FOYER SARAH VAILE DESIGN foyer with flair! As a young and colorful firm whose design philosophy infuses traditional decor elements with a touch of insouciance, Sarah Vaile Design’s grand entrance space immediately welcomes visitors into their whimsical world. Guests should feel as though they’re arriving for a lavish and lively luncheon hosted by their favorite fabulous friend! The walls are swathed in DeGournay’s silk and linen Matisse-inspired “Jazz” mural, with figures that dance up the stairs to the 2nd story. There, a fluted Lucite chandelier provided by Lee’s Antiques hangs high above the custom abstract runner created by The Rug Company. Vintage iron gilt Italian campaign chairs via Casa Branca flank a carved Gryphon console and large brass mirror, with 1970’s marbleized lamps from South Loop Loft. A commodious round hotel lobby sofa anchors the room in a sumptuous Schumacher silk velvet with delicate chainette fringe. Another wall features smoked mirror panes with brass rosettes, coupled with vintage French tole sconces. Tucked under the staircase is a gilded Louis XV settee reupholstered in snappy black patent leather by Fishmans Fabrics. A brass Milo Baughman drinks table is the final furniture touch, while an Italian ceramic cheetah found on Chairish presides over the whole marvelous mix as if to say, “Come on in! We’re so glad you’re here.” SOURCES: Wallpaper: DeGournay; Painting and Paper Hanging: Divinci; Paint: Benjamin Moore; Stair Runner: The Rug Company; Settee: Lee’s Antiques and Fishmans fabrics; Side Table and Chandelier: Lee’s Antiques; Chairs: Casa Branca; Console Table and Cheetah: Chairish; Sconces, Lamps and Mirror: South Loop Loft; Mirrored wall: Chicago Glass; Lobby Sofa: Covers Unlimited and Schumacher. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS POWDER ROOM THE STUDIO @WESTMORELAND FARM nspired by the many icons of design and architecture, Lynne Beyer chose furnishings and fixtures with serious pedigree and provenance for this powder room. The original design was a non-descript ante room, a small closet and a very narrow vanity and toilet hidden in the space behind a door no longer in the room. This room was entirely remodeled and edited, using single point perspective. The relocation of plumbing fixtures and lighting create the stunning vanity feature wall. The spectacular vintage pedestal sink and sconces from American Architect and Interior Designer Warren Platner are one of a kind and distinctly mid-century. These also inspired the custom slatted screen of the rear wall, and the custom eglomise mirror reflects the classic French design of painting on the reverse side of mirror. The dramatically draped window wall and the custom silver and gold leaf ceiling is an homage to the Interior Designer from Lake Forest, Frances Elkins, (sister of Architect David Adler) and her 1939 design of the Members’ Dining Room at the Yerba Buena Club. A curvaceous lounge chair inspired by modern furniture designer Harvey Probber, is upholstered in an oyster-colored velvet from prolific Chicago designer, Holly Hunt. The lovely wall color entices guests to enter a space of vivacious design. Evocative photography by Mark Shaw for the famous ad campaign for Vanity Fair Lingerie, and graceful drawings by Medard Klein complete the showcase of iconic creators. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS LIVING ROOM Vincere VINCERE, LTD. ith its grand proportions and Georgian symmetry, the expansive Living Room is a meditation on luxury and comfort. From a morning coffee overlooking the lawn terrace to a chic cocktail party with the lights dimmed just so, this room evolves with its occupants’ whims. Sheathed in a beautiful slub silk wallpaper by de Gournay, the room’s subtle shimmer evokes simple elegance. A hand-knotted nearly room-size rug from Ariana Rugs at Lapchi is truly art for the floor, anchoring an array of heirloom quality pieces. The Ingrid Donat sculptured bronze and lacquer coffee table from Carpenters Workshop Gallery feels both modern and historical. Additional texture and depth are provided by custom-embroidered wool curtains from Holland & Sherry, while sumptuous upholstery fabrics from Cowtan & Tout wrap tastefully realized Chaddock pieces. A Formations mirror and Jean-Michel Frank chair from Holly Hunt pair beautifully with an intricately detailed cabinet on stand by Alfonso Marina at CAI. The custom marble fireplace from Paris Ceramics is flanked by reproduction Italian chests through Lusso Design Resource, while a pair of Grace Munakata paintings from Anne Loucks Gallery float above. Opposite the fireplace is a stunning abstract by Tomory Dodge from Philip Martin Gallery; an Elger Esser photograph from Rose Gallery and striking pieces from Richard Norton complete the collection. On the lawn terrace, custom furniture from Brown Jordan and vintage and antique pieces from Finnegan Gallery continue the dialogue. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS LIBRARY JOEY LEICHT DESIGN he goal for the design of this library by Joey Leicht was to transform it into an evocative intellectual space that inspires a mood that is sleek, smart, and sophisticated with a touch of seduction. This space was designed not to set the trend, but to transcend it, by working in timeless features with a balanced color palette, sharp lines, and one-of-a-kind accessories. Curvilinear furniture with tailored details reinforces the sleek and sexy vibe, which provides great comfort and performance. To soften the space, and give it a greater sense of purpose, the designer chose to modify a section of the existing bookcase into a custom banquette. The deliberate lighting plan was thoughtfully executed by combining unique aesthetic qualities with practical adjustable task lighting. Soft organic elements were introduced to harmonize with the exterior landscape, while mindfully selected artwork was placed to repurpose sections of the bookcases. To pull the space together completely, the ceiling was finished with a custom mural that further stimulates a sense of curiosity and wonder - a distinguishing characteristic of libraries. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS PRIMARY SUITE SOLEDAD ZITZEWITZ INTERIORS e envisioned the primary suite to be elegant, comfortable and cozy at the same time. Very serene. Our classic canopy bed with long white drapes is the centerpiece of the bedroom. Presenting a beautiful safe nest to rest and restore energy for the next day. The bed, covered with gorgeous Pierre Frey textured fabric, will make the sleeping experience even more luxurious. Two inviting chairs and an ottoman call to sit and relax. In the corner of the room there is a small table to enjoy a morning coffee or even enjoy the lost art of dashing off a note or letter on stationery. Our room is full of layers of sensual and textured fabrics, blended with classic and comfortable furniture. All the lights in the rooms will accent our beautiful and unique walls with Pearl Burnished Venetian Plaster Inlay and art. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS PRIMARY BATH ABLAZE DESIGN GROUP hallenging spaces help to push the limits of our imagination and when met with constraints, creativity steps in to become the driver of perfection. The primary bath of this home had both, so the team at ABLAZE Design Group took flight to design a practical floorplan that embodies both function and refinement. Varying ceiling heights were used to create a sense of drama and harmony that unifies the various bathroom compartments and highlights the focal points. Natural finish materials including hand crafted tile and natural stone by Renaissance Tile & Bath amplify the luxurious nature of the space, while the brass accents create a feeling of warmth. Luxurious marble surfaces masterfully fabricated and installed by Select Surfaces along with high-end plumbing fixtures provide a reinforcement of durability whose stately appearance creates a space that is timeless and pure. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS LADIES DRESSING ROOM SALLY BROWN INTERIORS mbracing old world elements such as antiques, luxury fabrics, and passementerie, the Ladies’ Dressing Room layers a myriad of textures, artwork, and curated pieces to create an elegant retreat in the West bay. With elevated sophistication, the salon-style seating creates inviting vignettes that juxtapose comfort and formality. Whether reading or listening to music, the velvet-swathed bespoke chaise provides a lounge that is both leisurely and lovely. Whimsical colors and feather-like trim give distinction to the banquette area, inviting conversation or welcoming a cup of coffee among the glow of French wall lamps, intricate floral print, and contemporary art. Centering the room is a plush ottoman that marries fashion and function; offering the display of shoes, a perch for accessories, or a spot for unpacking a suitcase upon returning from travel, the multifunctional piece serves all areas of the room. Nestled within an alcove and skirted in ruffle-trimmed silk, the vanity is surrounded by mirror and warmed by lamp lighting and jewel tone accents. Trompe l’oeil wallpaper applied to the ceiling completes the room and gives a classical architectural touch in feminine blush colors. Light reflects off the creamy lacquered walls and antique mirrors, giving a rosy glow throughout. The windows are framed delicately with sheer, gown-like fabric, allowing light to flood through their voluminous gathers. Integrating fashion and interiors, this room is the ideal backdrop for both precious moments and simple daily pleasures: mother and daughters getting ready for a special occasion, a group of friends enjoying a glass of champagne while dressing for an event, or a peaceful moment of reflection among beautiful surrounds. 2023 LAKE FOREST SHOWHOUSE & GARDENS PRIMARY SUITE HALL ANNE COYLE INTERIORS utsy, girlie and gorgeous…that was the vibe I was going for in this inner sanctum. A hard candy-like green envelops the gallery hallway, creating a jewel box effect. The luscious leopard carpet, glittering crystal sconces and unusual black lotus ceiling lights bring the glamour, while the almost electric photographs by Brooke Hummer provide the edge. Architectural panels transform the suite of closet doors from flat to fabulous in this organizational nirvana. (Take a peak inside the closet…they’re almost too pretty to use.) Head out through the private vestibule, where a breathtakingly beautiful pink, green and white wallpaper featuring a Peony tree scales the walls. A vintage Marie Terese chandelier, aged Venetian mirror, Jansen style console and a Louis XVI style commode complete this sophisticated and classic visage.
