Nicky Lamothe-Maurice
— Publisher…
This year we decided to theme our holiday
issue“the Gift of Giving”. I am never surprised at
how generous our communities are! People in these
parts are GIVERS. They simply want to help and make
other people happy. Be it from the variety of telethons,or
when disasterstrikes the PEOPLE step up and Give. I am so
very proud to be part of a team of people that are no different.
When it is said there is no “I“ in team believe me “I” believe it
The gift of giving comes in many forms. Sometimes you give
unknowingly, for example—We try to support our local community
and surrounding area as much as we can. We donate to the Lions Club
and other groups who in turn help those in the community who need
a helping hand. We give our time and resources to groups and service
clubs who need a little bit of help throughout the year.
We promote as much as we can the wonderful activities that bring
economic growth to local businesses and groups in the Espanola,
Massey and surrounding areas. The gift to give doesn’t always mean
items of monetary value. It can be listening and helping to solve
issues big and small. It can be spreading the word when budgets don’t
exist. A gift isn’t always something you hold in your hand—it can be
something that brings you happiness, health and fortitude.
We are PROUD Northern Ontarians that face challenges in our region
such as extreme weather conditions that can wreak havoc on our
service providers. We appreciate the gift of understanding that comes
from our clients who know how special our little communities are!
From myself and the staff of Around&About PaperWorks team we
want to wish you the gift that gives you the most joyous, wonderful
Christmas and holiday season ever.

Merry Christmas & Happy NewYear --Joyeux Noël & BonneAnnée--

As we enter our 40th year, we realize this
milestone was made possible by the support of

We offer our thanks, and wish you much peace
and great joy during this holiday season and

801 McKinnon drive - 705-862-7000 continue doing this at Christmas. Also, giving doesn’t always mean having to
buy something. A truly personalized gift wins over a purchased gift any day.
Put together a photo album, bake delicious treats, or make coupons for
services such as a night of babysitting or a spring clean of the entire house;
the more creative and thoughtful, the better.
Involve others - A “no unnecessary presents’ agreement with friends and
family often leads to sighs of relief all around and a shorter Christmas
shopping list. If you have children talk to them about their expectations
and what you consider reasonable. The same applies to the rest of your
family. In large families buying presents can get out of hand. Make a pact with
loved ones on whether you will buy each other gifts and how much you will
spend. Christmas is a time for giving and sharing, but you don’t have to give
more than you have.
Mix it up - Instead of the traditional free-for- all of gift giving, you might want
to introduce a Secret Santa-style exchange. Rather than having every single
person buy a present for everyone else, draw names randomly. Another
idea is to make a game of buying presents on Boxing Day, you’ll get bargain
prices and limit the frenzy. Of course you can ditch the gifts outright, plan a
game night and throw a large potluck meal for all.

Keep track of your spending - Start by making a list and sticking to it. Who
are you buying gifts for and what’s your budget for each? Work out how
much you have to spend and then put that money aside. If you only use that
allotted money, you won’t end up overspending.
Prepare in advance - Get organized early for next Christmas. Purchase gifts
throughout the year so that you can take advantage of sales and/or set aside
money each month in a savings account specifically for Christmas. Do your
research to find the best price for items on your shopping list and keep an

eye out daily for deals. Do not leave your Christmas shopping until the
last minute or you’ll not only be forced to battle crowds and find slim
pickings but the pressure most likely will make you spend more than
you intended to.

Ultimately, the holiday season is about spending time with
the people we care most about, especially if we don’t see
them as often as we’d like during the year. Keeping that
in mind, you can’t go far wrong.
