INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD (ICCEIW) 1 01. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DESIGN FUTURE IN APPLIED ARTS Dr. Rahman Moton President of HAWA Foundation CEO of Myanmar American Chamber of Commerce, USA Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming crucial in applied arts, especially in design. It not only speeds up the design process but also has the potential for computational creativity. This means AI can autonomously perform creative tasks like inventing theories, writing poems, creating art, and composing music. In applied arts, AI acts as a transformative force, collaborating creatively rather than just being a tool. It makes design processes smoother and provides insights into human creativity. However, there is resistance to accepting machines as intelligent and creative entities, even within Computer Science. Some argue that to simulate artistic processes with AI, human thought must be replicated, particularly creative thought, which cannot be done with algorithms. The rise of creative software has been shown by the current surge in activity associated with computational creativity in design, independent of this criticism. While AI in design showcases immense potential, challenges emerge due to its reliance on data analysis. Insufficient data can lead to biases, raising concerns about fairness and inclusivity. The need for diverse and representative datasets becomes paramount to ensure AI-driven design processes are free from preconceived biases. A darker aspect of AI in design is evident in the creation of "Big Fakes." These deceptive content pieces pose legal challenges for designers and subjects of manipulated images. Furthermore, without taking into account the individuality of each artist, designers could misuse AI to alter their creations, putting financial gain ahead of creative integrity. This highlights the ethical issues surrounding the use of AI and design and emphasizes the necessity of their responsible and strategic usage to uphold standards of ethics and authenticity throughout the creative process. Research problem: The challenge lies in reconciling doubts about replicating human creative thinking with algorithms and addressing ethical concerns, particularly in the potential misuse of AI in design, leading to issues such as biases and deceptive content creation. The research aims to explore the transformative role of AI in applied arts, specifically in design, by examining its impact on design processes and its potential for computational creativity, and seeks to understand how AI functions as a creative collaborator and address the challenges surrounding its acceptance, highlighting the need for responsible integration to preserve authenticity and ethical standards in the creative process. Results of the research shed light on the current landscape of AI applications in design, emphasizing its transformative role and creative collaboration. Findings will
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD (ICCEIW) 2 address the challenges faced in reconciling scepticism within Computer Science, the surge in computational creativity activities, and the ethical considerations associated with responsible AI integration in design practices. Keywords: artificial intelligence, computational creativity, ethical concerns, transformative role, responsible integration.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD (ICCEIW) 3 02. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DESIGN FUTURE IN APPLIED ARTS Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ali Hassan Zenhom Faculty of Applied Arts – Helwan University, Egypt Head of Arab Association for Civilization and Islamic Arts, Egypt Abstract AI is the future in all fields of life. It is different for the designer artist as his/her imagination can be turned into embodied ideas as AI can assist the artist in executing the design through words, significances, and inputs that match the design idea with previously prepared programs for AI to apply whatever the designer wants for the ease of producing the design using various colours and shapes in such a short time. While it could take the designer a period, which might be months, to produce the design, AI can achieve it with less time and potentially higher quality. However, there are some problems resulting from AI technology that depends on data analysis, which means there will be partiality if the data is not sufficient for all design requirements and their solutions. Through such computer applications, fake movies, paintings, and pictures can be created featuring real people with their voices (Deep Fake), which are unreal and might cause major troubles to people who are in those images and to the designer, potentially leading to trials and courtrooms. In addition to faking the design thought belonging to designers without caring about studying creativity and distinguished characteristics of each artist, just caring about profit and faking art. Research problem is about lack of knowledge about techniques of artificial intelligence in easing the design process in applied arts and confirming ethics of use. The research aims to allocate AI applications generally and in design fields in particularly and to recognize its importance to cope with modern technology that harmonize with and facilitate the execution process, and to define the role of AI in developing contemporary trends in design and its application. The research highlighted aspects where AI can be used in designer creativity through benefiting from its technology in design of logos – fashion- short and animation movies- data analysis and design works. Keywords: artificial intelligence, designer artist, design-applied arts.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD (ICCEIW) 4 03. REVITALIZING DA’WAH STRATEGY: ROLES OF INTEGRATED AND HOLISTIC EDUCATION IN THE 21ST CENTURY Norfadelah Nordin Department of Dakwah, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah, Malaysia Ahmad Tijani, Surajudeen Department of Curriculum Studies, Faculty of Education, Sokoto State University (SSU), Nigeria Abstract The intellectual discourse about Da’wah has been extensively and overwhelmingly discussed from traditional approaches. Nonetheless, less attention is given to the perspectives of integrated and holistic education in enhancing Da’wah strategy in the 21st century. The primary objective of this paper is to explore the roles of integrated and holistic education in fostering Da’wah strategy. Content analysis (CA) was used as the methodology for exploring secondary data of the extant literature. The results of the content analysis (CA) demonstrated that the earlier Da’wah strategy or approach has positively contributed to the desired change in society. It is further advocated that there is a need to enhance the contemporary approaches to Da’wah activities in both predominant and minority Muslim communities. However, several challenges such as ideological and methodological have been identified in connection with Da’wah activities among the preachers (da’ie) in different parts of the world. It is therefore noted that integrated education, which combines Islamic knowledge (Ilm Naqli) and acquired knowledge (Ilm Aqli), can be instrumental in expanding the Da’wah strategy beyond traditional approaches. In addition, holistic education attempts to activate the potentials and character of learners, thus it can be used as a strategy in improving Da’wah strategy among Muslims in the 21st Century. It is suggested that the Da’wah workers should be trained continuously through the rebranding strategy of propagating Islam to non-Muslims. Keywords: Da’wah strategy, revitalizing, integrated education, holistic education, 21st century.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CONTEMPORARY EDUCATION IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD (ICCEIW) 8 07. METACOGNITIVE ONLINE READING STRATEGIES: THE REALITY BEHIND THEIR CLAIM Zaidatul Akmal Abd Hamid Centre for Languages and Pre-University Academic Development, International Islamic University Malaysia Abstract Metacognition is crucial for effectively navigating online, as it enables students to self-regulate their own learning. Studies have shown that efficient use of metacognitive strategies is necessary for successful reading comprehension. It was discovered that students at IIUM were struggling to obtain accurate information online, as they may get lost in cyberspace due to multiple activities needed during the process. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the metacognitive online reading strategies of the students. It utilized mixed-method research and was based on the explanatory sequential design, starting with quantitative data collection followed by the qualitative phase. The Online Survey of Reading Strategies (OSORS) by Anderson (2003) was used to assess the students' awareness of metacognitive online reading strategies. For the next phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted to find out the strategies that the students used in detail. From the survey, it was found that most students had high awareness of the strategies, but this was not necessarily indicative of real usage. From the interviews, it was discovered that 30 out of 38 strategies in OSORS were utilized by the students. Nevertheless, when looking at the number of strategies utilized by each student, all of them used less than half of the strategies in OSORS. In general, most of the students at IIUM are aware of the strategies needed to assist their online reading. However, the total number of strategies claimed to be used and the high mean scores for the awareness of the strategies are not necessarily indicative of real usage. With the nature of online text, it is important for readers to be equipped with the necessary skills for them to achieve maximum comprehension. To become proficient readers, becoming metacognitively active is essential, and therefore, incorporating metacognitive strategies as part of the curriculum in educational institutions should be considered. Keywords: metacognition, online reading, self-regulate, students, strategies, awareness.

ARGUMENTATION AND DIALECTICS IN ADVANCING ISLAMIC EDUCATION – THE ROLE OF HIGHER ISLAMIC EDUCATION INSTITUTION Mizan binti Muhammad Centre for Foundation Studies, International Islamic University Malaysia Abstract Islamic education has a rich tradition that spans centuries, deeply rooted in the teachings of the Quran and the Hadith. Within this context, argumentation and dialectics emerge as critical disciplines that shape the intellectual landscape of Islamic thought and civilization. In the early Islamic era, scholars engaged in jadal (dialectical disputation) and munāẓara (dialectical investigation). These practices fostered intellectual exchange, allowing for critical engagement with diverse viewpoints. The interplay between reasonableness and rhetorical effectiveness began to shape discourse. Later, the ādāb al-baḥth (protocols of dialectical inquiry) emerged as a cornerstone of reasoned argumentation. Scholars began to recognize the need for both reasonableness and rhetorical effectiveness in shaping public discourse and decision-making. This paper seeks to explore their significance, both historically and in the contemporary globalized world, emphasizing their integration into modern educational practices to address the multifaceted challenges that Islamic education faces. Modern universities and colleges serve as crucibles for cultivating critical thinking skills. Arguably, students who learn to inquire, question, and engage critically with ideas are fostered with a spirit of intellectual curiosity which leads to encouraging them to participate in dialogue, debate, and the exchange of diverse viewpoints. Argumentation becomes a means to refine ideas, challenge assumptions, and contribute to knowledge making; the fabric of intellectual exchange thrives on constructive criticism and openness to improvement. As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, the integration of argumentation and dialectics remains essential. By equipping students with these tools, students are empowered to reason, engage in constructive dialogue, and contribute to a more informed and compassionate society. Keywords: argumentation, dialectics, debate education, Islamic education.

THE MALAY ISLAMIC PHILOSOPHY IN TELEPUK TEXTILE ORNAMENTATION Shaliza Dasuki Liza Marziana Mohammad Noh, Fazlina Mohd Radzi Liberal Art Studies Department, College of Creative Arts, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malacca, Malaysia Haslinda Abd. Razak Foundation Art Studies Department, College of Creative Arts, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malacca, Malaysia Nor Arseha Karimon Graphic Design & Digital Media Department, College of Creative Arts, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malacca, Malaysia Abstract In recent developments of traditional Malay textile, telepuk has begun to attract the attention of textile art activists and potential benefactors. During the reign of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah, under the patronage of Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Al-Marhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, the telepuk was presented as a coronation gift to the King of the United Kingdom, King Charles III in 2022. This latest development bodes well for the recognition and future of telepuk fabric, which was once considered extinct for almost a decade. Telepuk is considered a luxury textile due to the use of gilded gold on the motifs and pattern decorations. This writing discusses the influence of Islamic culture in Malay philosophy, which is embedded in the creation of Malay textiles. The secondary data of visual images of motifs and patterns ever decorated on the fabric survey data will be used to analyse and interpret using formalistic and contextual studies based on Zakaria Ali’s Malay Aesthetic and Rupa dan Jiwa by Syed Ahmad Jamal. It is hoped that this study will give awareness to textile enthusiasts to understand the significant style of Malay textile decoration, which has been used since the Islamization of the Malay Archipelago and is worth hundreds of years of historical value. This collection of various motifs and textiles must be preserved and continue to be used in modern textile production to sustain the cultural heritage of Malay arts. Keywords: Islamic art, Malay art, Malay textile, telepuk, telepuk ornamentation.

CONSTRUCTING UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC INTEGRITY CHECKLISTS BASED ON STUDENTS' AWARENESS, UNDERSTANDING AND PRACTICES CRITERIA Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noreha Hashim Faculty of Maritime Studies, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia Abstract The democratization of higher education in Malaysia has led to a rapid increase in the number of higher education institutions (HEIs) with numerous entry routes, various courses, instructions, and assessment modes. Despite HEIs’ adoption of academic integrity policies and procedures, the lack of uniformity in terms of their enforcement has resulted in doubts about whether the students’ real academic attainments are accurately reflected by the academic qualifications that they possess. Indeed, studies on the academic integrity of HEIs students have focused on the prevalence of plagiarism, cheating in tests, assignments, and examinations, peer competition and pressure, academic bullying, and data fabrication. It is argued that HEIs students must assume accountability and responsibility for the academic integrity of their learning process and its outcomes. Hence, this study aims to get an initial picture of undergraduate students' academic integrity awareness, understanding, and practice criteria. It comprises 338 undergraduate students currently enrolled in academic programs at a faculty of a public university in Malaysia, who have been chosen through convenience sampling. An online Google Survey Form comprising 1 open-ended and 25 multiple choice questions using a 5-point Likert scale has been used for this purpose. Findings show that more than 60% of the respondents have little or no idea of what academic integrity entails, and seeking and receiving assistance for individual assignments are acceptable behaviours. More than 40% are engaged in plagiarism, data fabrication, and cheating during online tests and examinations. More than 80% respondents know their HEI’s academic integrity policy, and that they can be punished for academic dishonesty. Findings are used to construct Undergraduate Student Self-Assessment Academic Integrity Checklists that are tailor-made to promote accountability and responsibility and can be used immediately by all students at the particular HEI. Keywords: academic integrity, awareness, understanding, practices, checklists.

IDENTIFYING DEMOTIVATING FACTORS FOR ARABIC LEARNING IN ISLAMIC HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION Wan Zahidah binti Wan Sulaiman Faculty of Language and Foundation Studies, Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah, Malaysia Abstract This study investigates the factors contributing to demotivation among students learning Arabic in an Islamic Higher Education Institution (IHEI). Drawing from existing literature on demotivation in language learning, the research aims to fill a gap by specifically examining demotivation in the context of Arabic language education at IHEIs. Through a quantitative research method involving 64 participants from the Foundation Studies Department, the study analyses teacher-related, classroom-related, and student-related factors. Findings reveal that while teacher-related factors are generally perceived positively, certain classroom elements, such as an emphasis on grammar and translation, contribute to demotivation to some extent. However, the most significant demotivation stems from student-related factors, including anxiety, limited selfstudy techniques, and low self-confidence. These findings underscore the importance of addressing student-related factors to enhance motivation and success in Arabic language learning. The study emphasizes the need for tailored support systems, including motivational seminars, peer mentorship, and counselling services, to address students' self-confidence issues and language learning-related anxiety. Additionally, it suggests adopting pedagogical approaches that prioritize individual student needs and preferences to ensure active engagement and enthusiasm. The study concludes by recommending ongoing research and assessment of demotivation factors to inform curriculum development and teaching methods, ultimately fostering a vibrant and inspiring learning environment for Arabic language education at IHEI. Keywords: demotivating, language learning, factors, foreign language.

CHALLENGES OF TEACHING ARABIC LANGUAGE FOR LAW TO NON-MUSLIMS IN LAW SCHOOL Dr. Fatimah Yusro Hashim, Mohd Zamre Mohd Zahir, Suhaizad Saifuddin Faculty of Law, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Abstract The teaching of Arabic as one of the faculty's compulsory courses has been there since the law faculty was established. It has become one of the basic courses taught to law students during their first and second years. This is because the study of law at this faculty does not only cover civil law but also includes Syariah law as a compulsory subject of the faculty. This Arabic for Law course contains two components, Arabic I which will introduce the context of the language from the aspect of letters and pronunciation, grammar, and also the properties of the word itself. Students will also learn Syariah terms that were derived from this language. While in Arabic II, students will be introduced to the legal verses from al-Quran and al-hadith where they will be introduced to the ways of legal interpretation from the texts. Several minor challenges faced when teaching this course to non-Muslim students who have never known Arabic language are to introduce the language to them. The students do not recognize what hijaiyah letters are, let alone sound out Arabic words. Apart from that, they also need to learn how to read and write letters. However, these challenges were faced by the teaching team by introducing several approaches to facilitate the teaching and learning process. This paper will introduce the method implemented by the teaching staff in making the teaching process of learning Arabic for Law easier, fun, and not burdensome for the students, especially for the non-Muslim students. Muslim, MM, Taqiyuddin M. Robbany UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia Abstract The educational process will not end with the end of learning in formal education; continuous education or lifelong learning education is needed. One of the lifelong education programs is POD (Adult Learning Education). There are 3 types of POD: 1) strengthening and developing skills, 2) strengthening capacity as a citizen, and 3) strengthening character and morals. One of the PODs that is oriented towards strengthening character and morals based on religious spirituality is Majelis Taklim. One of the models of Majelis Taklim is well organized, and has clear objectives, curriculum, and methods, the program is implemented systematically and consistently and has been tested for its implementation following the principles of adult learning, tarekat. Almost all of the congregation's students are adults, most of them are elderly, they join the congregation out of self-awareness, and they learn according to the needs of their souls. Mursyid as a teacher provides direction and attention to his students, especially in spiritual guidance. The spiritual bond between teacher and student is very strong because it is bound by baiat (allegiance) or talkin as a form of commitment or learning contract. Lifelong education in the tarekat aims to achieve God's approval employing tazkiyatun nafs. The method used is mujahadah and riyadhah which is carried out with strict discipline through 4 stages: awareness, habituation, internalization, and istiqamah. Students' daily activity is dhikr after every 5 daily fardlu prayers in an istiqamah manner. To refresh and strengthen education as well as evaluation, regular meetings are held every week (khususiyah, istighasah), monthly meetings (Reading of the Shalawat Nabi and Manakib), and annual meetings (Prophet's Birthday and Manakib Kubro Syaikh Abdul Qadir al Jailani). The result obtained is a peaceful soul, well-being a noble character, and is optimistic about facing life in this world and the hereafter. Congregation-based POD can be one solution to dealing with Indonesia's population. In the next 20-30 years, Indonesia will get a second demographic bonus if the elderly population is not included in the vulnerable group. In this way, adult-based education can contribute to overcoming the problems commonly faced by the elderly. This condition is in line with UNESCO's mission for the Adult Learning Education program and supports the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, chapter or point 4 of the SDGs, which specifically calls for learning opportunities for adults.
