<< PERSON TO PERSON
"MISPLACED CONDEMNATION"

“So whatever you believe about these things keep between
yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn

himself by what He approves. But whoever has doubts is
condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and

everything that does not come from faith is sin.”

(Romans 14:22-23)

(\W) hen I was a kid, I was told that swimming in the pool after
eating would give me appendicitis. So after eating, because I
was hard-headed and didn’t want to get appendicitis, I
would just sit in a corner of the pool and watch the other kids play the

games I wanted to play. I would wade slowly around in my corner of the
pool until I felt that my food was digested enough and I was no longer in
danger of getting appendicitis. The problem was - by the time I was ready
to play - the other kids would already be done and sometimes would
leave the pool because they no longer wanted to swim. Those were
terrible days indeed and made even more terrible when I eventually

realized that swimming after eating does NOT give you appendicitis.
Indigestion... maybe ... appendicitis, never. I missed out on fun times in
the swimming pool with friends because I believed in something that was
not true... all because of what other people were telling me.

In today’s world, there are many things that people say God does not

allow without any actual biblical basis. These controversial items can

range from the type of food we eat, the beverages we can consume, the

~; “Sa clothes that we wear, and many other things. But what if we get
“ ™ condemned by other people for continuing to do something that we know

=2 the Bible says - is not only okay to do - but in factis a blessing from God?!

The Bible is very clear about that. God says, “Whether you eat or drink,

e} or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31).

3 -— . And just saying what isn’t said but is clearly implied, be blessed by God
with a sense of overflowing joy at His provisions. But, there are still a few
more things to consider regarding this.

ewtS—‘ ihe Although it is biblical to refrain from doing what is acceptable in front of
a brother who finds the act unacceptable lest you cause him to stumble,
| Ge Sit oo ; the Bible says we will reap the benefits of continuing to do the practice
privately for as long as it is biblically acceptable, while your brother will
je 3en " (i,ae : =eS] miss out in the blessings completely. Note the words: BIBLICALLY
ACCEPTABLE. Part of the verse reads, “Blessed is a man who doesn’t

Ss x7 g yourself believe that something wrong is right and God approves of that
act (when God clearly does not as is written in the Bible), be ready to face
|F : the consequences of unrightfully justifying your views. The context of
the verse is very clear; it is talking about something that is biblically
|= right but made wrong because of unbiblical wisdom. However, if you are
unsure if an act is acceptable or not to God, it is best to refrain from
ae participating; because if you doubt, it is not of faith and you may very
well be doing something that does not please God. Find out first what the

ABOUT SBCF

Subic Bay Community of Faith started in the summer of 2010 when a vision of church planting in
Subic Bay Freeport Zone was laid in the hearts of John Phillip and Mei Chua Chiaco. On
September 25, 2010, thirty-five people mei for the first worship service with Rev. Noel Panioja,
assisted by his loving wife Jenny Pantoja serving as the Lead Pastor/Church Planter of the team.
A year later, Rev. Maurice Adam Rivera was called io continue the spiritual leadership of SBCF.

While the church over the years continued to participate in numerous community-based
ministries such as outreaches, medical missions, church planting, fellowship groups, ministering
to the ministers, and other similar activities, ihe Lord steered the leadership of His Church to
prioritize discipleship and focus on the internal growth of those called to SBCF. Through His
leading and voice, the mission of SBCF became clear: to Develop Dynamic Disciples by leading
others to cultivate their inner life through Christ Jesus.

Today, SBCF continues to champion the call to Christian authenticity by prioritizing our own
relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We encourage people of all ages and
backgrounds to come and experience the joy and resteciness only Christ can bring. Worship with
us, and come as you are! Welcome io the SBCF family!

ABOUT THE SERMON SERIES

BUILDING DEEP: BRICK x BRICK
In ourjourney as disciples of Christ Jesus, we are called to live a life that continuously develops depth of
spiritual understanding. As we mature, it is no longer enough to just know the fundamentals of our faith, but
necessary to build a much deeper relationship with our God. We must learn to understand the purpose of
the personal ministry He gave to each one of us, and learn to work together in order to attain the whole
measure of the plans He prepared for His Church,

ln order to achieve this, one must continue building on what was already prepared, and start building up

steadily, brick by brick. It is through the steady additions of these sturdy and solid “bricks” that a house built

to last could be ready for its intended purpose.
We have created 13 sermons from the Book of Ephesians meant to build on the foundation we have already
started and help us grow deeper in our Christian faith by understanding the nature and purpose of His
Church, and how we each play a pivotal role in the Body of Christ.
Come and journey with us as we build the beginnings of our superstructure in Christ Jesus, Brick by Brick.
