Chœur Grégorien de Paris Gregorian chant, originating in the Middle Ages, is a monophonic style used in the Latin liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. It is regarded by the Church as the “inherent song of the Roman liturgy” and the highest model of sacred music.Founded in 1974 by Louis-Marie Vigne (1953–2022), the Chœur Grégorien de Paris (CGP) is dedicated to preserving and promoting this ancient Catholic tradition. In 1994, a women’s choir was independently established, and in 2006, the École du Chœur Grégorien de Paris was founded, attracting global students, including musicians, priests, nuns, and scholars. Members hail from diverse countries, including Taiwan.The CGP men’s ensemble provides liturgical music at Chapelle Saint-Vincent-de-Paul (Sundays, 9:00 AM), while the women’s ensemble sings at the Église Saint-Sulpice. During Holy Week, CGP fully serves the monastery liturgy, deepening members’ spiritual lives.Performing 5–8 concerts annually across France, CGP also collaborates in festivals and with renowned composer Olivier Messiaen. This HymnFest serves as a musical reflection on these relationships. HymnFest 4 聖詠講座 4Canticle of Creatures 800 造物讃800Date日期: 9.11.2025 (Sun 日)Time 時間: 4:30PM-5:30PMVenue 地點: St Bonaventure Church 聖文德堂The year 2025 is a grace-filled time, not only marked as the “Jubilee Year” of the Catholic Church but also as the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi’s composition of The Canticle of the Creatures (also known as Canticle of the Sun), a hymn of gratitude celebrating the beauty of creation and humanity’s relationship with God. We are immensely honored that several local church composers have been invited to create new renditions of The Canticle of the Creatures in Cantonese. Each composer has written a new version of the entire canticle or composed a song or chant based on its eight sections.Inspired by the Saint, the composers have elaborated on the following themes:1. The Canticle is essentially a prayer addressed directly to God.2. The elements—sun, moon, wind, fire, water, earth, and death—are referred to as siblings.3. How St. Francis of Assisi described and reflected on these elements as he observed, experienced, and contemplated them.In HymnFest 4, we are delighted to have Friar Francesco Li OFM and Friar William Ng OFM explain the content of The Canticle of the Creatures. Named after the biblical Annunciation, Rev. John B. Kwan bestowed upon them their Chinese name in 2004. Their repertoire spans traditional sacred hymns to contemporary popular music.GsM is a familiar presence in parishes, performing at liturgies, evangelistic events, and weddings. The group also produces its own themed religious concerts, has held major concerts at venues like the Hong Kong City Hall, and has been featured in prominent events such as the Hong Kong Hymnos Festival.In addition to live performances, GsM actively participates in recording original songs by local Catholic composers. Believing that the human voice is the most beautiful instrument given by God, they strive to continue spreading the good news of their faith through their music.天使綸音是一個熱愛合唱的團體，自1988年成立（前身為 Hymn Box）以來，一直致力於透過歌聲分享天主的平安與喜樂。團隊名字源於聖經中「聖母領報」的故事，並於2004年由關傑棠神父惠賜中文團名「天使綸音」，演唱曲目涵蓋傳統聖詠與現代流行樂曲。團隊活躍於各堂區的禮儀、福傳活動與婚禮獻唱，並積極策劃如「隔世尋兇」、「玫瑰園約會」等別具深意的宗教音樂會。他們曾數度在香港大會堂等場地舉辦大型演唱會，並獲邀參與「香港聖詠節」等盛事。除了獻唱外，團隊亦積極參與本地天主教作曲家的原創歌曲錄音製作。他們深信歌聲是天主所賜的最優美樂器，期望藉此繼續傳揚信仰的喜訊。Canossa Primary School Choir is a faith-based group composed of students from Primary 4 to 6. All members love singing and actively use music to spread the love of God, expressing their enthusiasm for their faith through song. The choir primarily performs hymns at school religious activities, and some members also participate in various musical events, such as musicals, children’s choirs, and Chinese orchestras, allowing more people to experience the power of music. The members build deep friendships through mutual support and grow together on their faith journey.嘉諾撒小學聖詠團是一個由小四至小六學生組成的校內信仰小團體。團員們均熱愛唱歌，積極用歌詠傳揚主愛，透過音樂表達對信仰的熱情。他們主要在校內宗教活動中頌唱聖詠，其中部分團員還參加各類音樂活動，如音樂劇、兒童合唱團和中樂團等，讓更多人感受到音樂的力量。團員們在互助中建立深厚的友誼，並共同在信仰的旅程中成長。Founded in 2013 by members of the Hong Kong Christian Life Community, AMDG—short for Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam (“For the Greater Glory of God”)—is a humble yet passionate music ministry dedicated to encountering God through creativity. With original compositions inspired by Scripture and spiritual reflection, the group shares faith-based music in concerts, schools, and collaborative projects across borders. Their works, including award-winning pieces like Genesisand Linked in Adversity, have been featured in diocesan events, microfilms, and musicals. This concert will feature the Missa brevis in B-flat major, K. 275, as well as one of Mozart’s most popular sacred works, the “Coronation Mass”, K. 317. By comparing these two works, we will witness how the young Mozart broke free from the shackles of his environment and technique to mature into the Classical master we know.歷時五年，《莫扎特小彌撒曲全集》講座音樂會系到終於來到尾聲。是次音樂會將演唱降B大調小彌撒曲K. 275，以及莫扎特最受歡迎的聖樂作品之一《加冕彌撒》K. 317。對照這兩部作品，我們將見證少年莫扎特如何打破環境及技藝的枷鎖走向成熟，成為我們熟悉的古典大師。Leon CHU | Speaker and Conductor朱振威 | 講者及指揮Born in a grassroot family, Leon Chu did not receive any formal music training during his teens. His first encounter with Mahler’s Symphonies ignited his interest in music, leading him to pursue his musical studies, starting with the Centralised Scheme of Music Training for Senior Secondary Students, and percussion studies with Choy Lap-tak. Upon his admission to the Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, he participated in a number of choruses and orchestras, and studied vocal under Albert Lim. He later studied choral conducting under renowned European masters including Kåre Hanken, Theodora Pavlovitch, and Gábor Hollerung. In 2014, Chu attained the Master degree of Choral Conducting from the University of Saint Joseph, Macau, under the tutelage of Colin Mawby, Nancy Telfer and Pedro Monteiro. He furthered his vocal studies under Myra Chih in recent years. Since 2017, Leon Chu is an Arts Advisor (Music sector) of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.朱振威出生於香港一個草根家庭，在學時期未有接受正統音樂訓練，直至初中時無意中接觸到馬勒交響曲並為之著迷，方立志學習音樂。他的音樂訓練始於高中音樂科中央訓練計劃，同時跟隨蔡立德學習敲擊樂。因緣際會考入香港中文大學現代語言及文化系後仍積極參與多個合唱團及樂團，亦隨林俊學習聲樂。後隨Kåre Hanken、Theodora Pavlovitch及Gábor Hollerung等歐洲名家研習合唱指揮。2014年，朱氏在澳門聖若瑟大學考獲合唱指揮碩士，期間受業於Colin Mawby、Nancy Telfer及Pedro Monteiro。近年隨支韻怡深造聲樂。朱氏自2017年起為香港藝術發展局音樂界別藝術顧問。The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus香港中文大學合唱團For nearly 50 years’ pursuit of excellence, The Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus (CU Chorus) has become one of the best local university choirs in Hong Kong.
