QHKAWARDS

PEOPLE’S CHOICE -PRIVATE HOSPITAL
CATEGORY

The Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards (QHKA) announced its winners in 14 categories of the
3rd QHKA edition. Lions Sightfirst Eye Hospital (LSFEH) emerged 1st runners up in the
“people’s choice -private hospital category” in its inaugural entry in the event.
The Winners were announced during the Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards gala dinner
ceremony held on 7th April 2022 at Safari Park Hotel under the theme “Quality and Universal
Health Coverage”; which coincided with World Health Day. Dr. Simon Kibias in his speech
delivered on behalf of the cabinet secretary Hon. Mutahi Kagwe said Covid 19 exposed our
weakness as healthcare providers but equally provided opportunities for innovation to
deliver services efficiently and save lives and that there is no universal health coverage
without quality healthcare.. Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards is a brainchild of the Director,
Grace Ndegwa who works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Amref Health
Africa. The initiative is supported by various partners including the United Nations Population
Fund (UNFPA) and SafeCare. LSEH effort and contribution towards quality healthcare in
Kenya was recognized (1st runners-up). Congratulations to LSFEH staff and Board of
Management for their efforts in providing quality healthcare to Kenyans.

IN RECOGNITION
RANK OF COMMANDERS

We are proud for the appointment of the highest honours of Our Chairman, Dr. Manilal Dodhia and Vice
Chairman Dr. Manoj Shah of "Commander of the St. John Priory" by Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11
in recognition of their service to humanity through St. Johns Ambulance, a charitable First Aid and Medical
Emergency organization.
President Uhuru Kenyatta presented the honours on behalf of The Queen in a ceremony at the All Saints
Cathedral, Nairobi.

ANTI-DOPING AGENCY
OF KENYA HEALTH TALK

On the 8th of February our head of Diabetes Dr Rilwan Adan facilitated a health talk on
lifestyle diseases at the anti-doping agency of Kenya. The staff at the agency also
benefited from from a free medical screening from Lions SightFirst Eye hospital in
partnership with Kenya Alliance Insurance.
The tests include Random blood sugar, HIV,BMI, Breast examination and prostate
specific Antigen test for males over 40 years.

VDAALYENTINES

February 14th Valentines Day , the hospital
gifted our lucky winners who participated
in a competition on our social media pages
asking couples to share a selfie of them in
eye wear.
The winners John and Mary Maina won
themselves a free Diabetes, Dental , ENT
screening, designer sunglasses from our
Optical shop and a Valentines gift hamper.
Mary Maina has been a patient with us and
has undergone two eye surgeries at the
hospital and most of her followers online
believed that the win was much deserved
for the couple.

INTERNATIONAL

WOMEN´S DAY

On 8th March International Womens Day all the women staff joined the world in marking
the day by taking and sharing pictures showing the #BreaktheBias sign. Every woman
was also gifted with a rose flower and chocolate.
The hospital also gave an offer to all women wishing to get rid of their glasses to have a
free Lasik screening. The offer ran for 3 days and we managed to screen over 40
patients.

On International Every Girl Wins’ Day, we
stand with all females for freedom and
equal opportunity. It was created to
inspire the world to accept all females as
equal; to stand as one to celebrate our
most significant asset, our women. This
day is celebrated on 13th March every
year.
As the world celebrated International
Every Girl Wins’ Day, we at Lions Sightfirst
Eye Hospital celebrated our own wins.
Our very own members of staff were
recognized and awarded by His Excellency,
Proffessor Sir Clyde Rivers, The Chancellor
of University Graduate College and
Founder of I Change Nations, supported
by the hospital Chairman Dr. Manilal
Dodhia and Vice Chairman Dr. Manoj Shah,
both Global Ambassadors for I Change
Nations, for their exemplary contribution
and leadership towards the hospital.
We congratulate Dr. Rilwan Adan, Dr.
Priyanka Bhuyar, Ms Milkah Mwikali and Ms
Tanvi Shah on receiving this prestigious
award that recognizes individuals and
organizations throughout the world who
have exemplified extraordinary humanitarian
efforts that effectively change nations.

applaud them for the great work they do!

GALLANA OIL (K)
HEALTH TALK

We were privileged to be invited on 8th March 2022 to Gallana Oil (K) Limited in
Partnership with AAR Insurance to celebrate their women staff on International
Women’s day. Dr. Shilpa Mulki gave a health talk on” Women’s Health, Lifestyle and
Nutrition”.

WORLD ORAL
HEALTH DAY

Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital Dental unit in
Loresho offered free dental screening to
patients for a week ahead of World Oral
health Day. Over seventy patients were
screened. Inline with the theme for this
year, Be proud of your mouth LSEH dental
unit used this time to encourage people to
have regular dental check ups.

SEKENANI PRIMARY SCHOOL
FREE MEDICAL CAMP

The Lions Sight First Eye Hospital carried out a Sight for Kids Program at the Sekenani
Primary School, Maasai Mara to celebrate the visit of the Lions Clubs International 2nd Vice
President, Dr. Patti Hill and her husband Dr. Greg Holms.
They donated Plastic Recycle Bins and other items to the schools.

The Lions Clubs International 2nd Vice President, Dr. Patti Hill and her husband Dr. Greg
Holms also planted trees for a green environment.

LIONS SIGHTFIRST EYE HOSPITAL PARTNERSHIP
WITH THE JAIN SOCIAL GROUP

Once again, The Jain Social Group presented LSFEH a cheque of one million shillings in
support 250 cataract surgeries sponsored by Mrs. Anjana Niranjan Chapia in loving
memory of her parents Late Gunvantrai and Ranjanben Vasa through Mansukhlal and
Kusum Kamdar of Nairobi. The donation was presented on 20th March 2022 by Aarti
Amar Gardi on behalf of the donor to Dr. Manila Dodhia, Chairman LSFEH. We are very
grateful for foundations support to the most vulnerable in the society.

The seeds planted in the previous years are now
bearing fruit. These are the rewards of our endless
labour. The true signs of love and passion for the work
we do. I believe 2021 was a good start for many of our
programmes especially after the year 2020 when the
covid pandemic ravaged the entire world and disrupted
many lives and lively hoods. Our unwavering success in
2021 has proven our course to the healthcare industry.
I am determined to make the very best of the upcoming
year. With our strong, motivated team working together,
we can surely make our goals happen.
