President’s Message
Warm Greetings to all the Trends Letter Readers,
The last 2 months here at Tambaram had been extremely
busy and we The office bearers from our Indian Medical
Association, Tambaram are trying to do our best in involving all the members of the
branch to do various activities
I am very happy to note that all the wings have started to perform their activities.
March was dominated by Women’s wing activities at the helm of Dr. Kiruthika Devi
R.S, WDW as Chairperson . The enthusiasm and togetherness shown by them was a
treat to watch. The WDW wing had mobilized around 6.00 Lacs. A special mention,
acknowledgment and appreciation to Dr. Sri Sudha K, our young WDW Secretary
who had individually contributed 2.5 Lacs for the Rally followed by The
Medical Camp, and the Women Doctors Day Programme were very well organized
and attracted a huge crowd.
Next Our AMS wing too contributed very well under the helm of Dr. V.S. Hariharan .
They organised 2 events for the month of March and April .
1. World Kidney Day and the other 4th ENT Oration .Each CME was attended by
more than 100 members.
Similarly 2 Clinical meet was also arranged on the 4 th Friday of last 2 months and
each of these was attended by 100 odd members with 10 presenters in each meet
discussing interesting cases .
Our CGP wing too had organized under the helm of Dr. T. Premalatha more than 5
Rural and Urban Activities involving , conducting health Camp, BLS Training and
Awareness Talk .
The tragic news that one of our colleague Dr. Archana Sharma in Rajasthan
committed suicide due to a case of PPH death in her hospital created a ripple
across the medical fraternity Nationwide and we from our branch organized a huge
protest involving 120 doctors at main GST Road at Pallavaram and exhibited our
displeasure and requested the Government and the policymakers to take note of
this situation and help Doctors to practice peacefully which was covered very well
by Media.
INDIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, TAMBARAM Page 9
And another case of assault in one of our Hospital at Mangadu was also given
immediate redressal by going to the police commissioner's office and placing and
putting forth our story and making sure that an FIR was registered on the
culprit. So such activities by our branch to our members will go a long way in telling
the public in a certain subtle way that the Doctors are your best friends to take care
of your health and under any circumstances trying to harass or assault your doctor
can never ever be the solution.
Our Forthcoming Events for the month of May 2022
1.5.2022 - A Tamil New Year / Ramzan Celebration organized
by Fine Arts Committee
15.5.2022 – one day CGP Conference at Le Meridian
As usual Dr. Rachula Daniel, Chairperson of Trends Letter has done a fabulous job
of getting together all the activities by our members for the past 2 months, I really
congratulate her and her team for the efforts taken to publish a wonderful Trends
Letter
WITH BEST WISHES,

MULLERIAN DYSGENESIS – AN OPTION
Dr. E. C. Sreevalsan M. D., D. G. O.
Retd. Addl. Prof. of OB/GYN, MMC
Sr. Consultant OB/GYN, AG Hospital, Chromepet
Mullerian dysgenesis is the absence or malformation of the female generative tract of varying
degrees. It can be as complete absence of the tubes, uterus and vagina as in complete agenesis or
partial as in segmental absence of tubes/uterus/cervix/ vagina or combinations, thereof. In these,
some have only a small deformation and go through life without any major problem as in arcuate,
bicornuate, unicornuate, sub septate and septate uteri. There is, however, a minor group in this,
which constitute women, who do not have either a uterus/tubes or vagina or have a small nodule in
the place of it, with no cavity / endometrium. These women are included in primary amenorrhoea of
anatomic origin.
Till date, the options available for them have been, either surrogate motherhood or recently uterine
transplantation [costly]. An ayurvedic treatment for mullerian dysgenesis is now proposed. The
author who did his GCIM [in integrated medicine at KMC] and then, did his DM& S followed by
MBBS, DGO & MD & retired as Addl. Prof of OBGYN from IOG-MMC has tried, an ayurvedic
treatment, for the same and has got a patent for the same.
Patients with primary amenorrhoea are evaluated in detail with clinical, ultrasound [if needed CT&
MRI], laboratory investigations [hormones- FSH, LH, PROLACTIN, T-3, T-4, TSH, AMH, INHIBIN-A,
IGF-I, E-2, PROGESTERONE and TESTOSTERONE and karyotyping]. Only patients with 46 XX
are taken up. They, then, undergo a diagnostic laparoscopy and the diagnosis is confirmed.
They are, then, after informed consent, put on a course of ayurvedic medicines and monthly clinical
and ultrasound evaluation as well as three monthly, hormonal evaluations done.
The first case took 10 years for cavity formation and attained menarche, the second took around 5
years and the last in one year.
These have been published as a book -Monograph on Mullerian Dysgenesis – available at
www.thescholarink.com).
