Message from INDOFEST
Head of School

Dear MIS Community,

My first year at MIS has been full of surprises and exciting events: we TimOpeeCnaipnsgule
hosted the Family Games evening, an amazing Indofest, the Annual Athletics Carnival
General Meeting & BBQ, the MIS Talent Show, the MIS 50th event & Time
Capsule Opening, along with a very successful Athletics Carnival. All of
these events highlighted to me the cohesion and spirit of the MIS
community; a community that comes together and celebrates everything
that is great about the diversity and heritage of our very special school.

This year has also been a time of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty,
complexity, and ambiguity). As an institution and a community, we have
been faced with events beyond our control which have forced us to
adapt and adjust. These events have shown our community to be made
up of people who are able to live the mission of the school: to “focus on
intercultural understanding, 21st Century skills, knowledge, and
attitudes to enable life-long learners who can adapt and act in a caring
way leading to a positive impact…” The events of 2020 have certainly
shown that all sections of our community, be they students, parents or
teachers, have the ability to adapt and learn in any environment and
exhibit caring which affects all in a time of great uncertainty.

MIS will continue to strive to offer the highest quality education in Sumatra, by
developing globally-minded students who are ready and able to make the world a
better place; whether this is face-to-face or in the virtual world. MIS has certainly lived
up to the idea that a school is not a building, it is a community of learners working
together for a better future; wherever the teachers and students may be. A community is
only as strong as its individual members and the glue which binds it together; we have
shown that collectively we are more than capable of weathering any storm. For that, I
thank each and every member of our amazing community.

Here’s to the next 50 years of MIS! 50 years of international education in Medan

Kindergarten

t

Dear Kindergarten students,
The first time you came to the Kindergarten
class many of you were scared, but some of
you were confident. I have been so proud to
watch you grow.
You learned what it meant to sit in a circle,
walk in a line, hold a pencil, use scissors, and
be part of a group. You learned how to read,
became communicators, mathematicians,
scientists, inquirers, and more. You learned
what it meant to be a friend. You played with
others, took turns, worked through problems,
and practiced patience. You smiled, laughed,
and sometimes cried. Not all of our days were
easy, but our days were filled with learning,
excitement, and happiness.
During this time of home-learning, I want to
congratulate all of you for your patience and
endurance, to stay at home and cooperate
with your parents. Stay kind, courageous and
curious; all the best for your future.

Ms. Kathy,

Ms. Musepini & Ms. Renta

PYP 1-2

Dear PYP 1-2 students,
This year has been full of many wonderful
hands-on learning experiences with this
special group of students.
Weekly Make It lessons were always exciting.
Our units gave us lots of opportunities to
enjoy science experiments. I was amazed at
how creative you all were at designing your
own experiments!
Our excursion around Medan during our
Celebrations unit was another highlight.
When we moved to online learning I saw you
all try your best to continue to be
independent learners, facing challenges
courageously.
Thank you for your enthusiasm and
commitment to learning this year and your
care for one another as a class

Ms. Julie & Ms. Christina
