The Leoistic year 2021/2022

The Executive members of the Leo club of KIU for the Leoistic year
2020/2021

This Leoistic year can be titled the most prestigious year in the Leo club of KIU.
The Leo Club of KIU which was started as a small-scale club in 2018 has now
expanded to a club with over 300 members. The club has registered members to
the My Lion Account which has an international value of recognizing as Leos.
This year Leo club of KIU was able to bring the club a good reputation in the Leo
District 306 C1. Being one of the active university-based Leo clubs with
maintained good standards and with around 45 service projects. It was honored
that the club was awarded numerous achievements this year. Middle of the year
the staff advisor, Madam Leo Hiranya resigned from the university, and the club
has a new staff advisor, Madam Savithri Karunanayake.

the project Drops of Hope (Pancreas in strike) chaired by Leo Mishel
Medonsa.
• The 1st runner-up award for the „Most dedicated Leo of the district‟ for Leo
Nethmi Rupasinghe.

nutrition, and food safety for the project Hadawathin Tharuna Wemu
chaired by Leo Janani Wickramanayaka.

• 2nd Runner up - Most Outstanding Project on Youth Empowerment, Project

Wishes from the Past Club Presidents

It is a great honor for me to have been the Chartered President of the Leo Club of
KIU. I am immensely contented by the growth of the Club. As the years have
passed, I do see a lot development in the Club as well as the members themselves.
Nothing could have been possible without the executive and director boards of the
Leo Club throughout the journey. As I convey my best wishes to the Club, I am
also privileged to be a part of the Club‟s success. With the Covid pandemic and
the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, it is indeed a great challenge for a Club like ours
to function. But, with all your support and encouragement, we have managed to
stand in the spotlight among the other Clubs in the District. As Leos, it is very
important to maintain a good bonding with the pioneers of the Club. Leo
movement not only allows you to serve the community but also makes you
connect with a lot of people. I highly encourage all of you to maintain the
connections throughout your life.

Leadership. Experience. Opportunity. That is what all of us are here for. It is your
responsibility to develop all the soft skills by engaging in activities and
participating in projects. It is indeed the motivation that keeps you going. As the
Chartered President, I am certainly lucky to have set up goals and aims for the
upcoming presidents to sustain. In appreciating the potential of the Club, I also
express my congratulations in receiving a bundle of awards this Year. Best of luck
for your Leo journey!

An Overview of Lions Club of Koswatta

Lions Club of Koswatta was initiated on the 30th of June in the year 2001, by the
Charter Club President Lion Saman Jinadasa. His excellency in pioneering the
Club took its way through a successful journey. He could extend the Lions Club of
Koswatta to two Lions Clubs, the Lions Club of Kandy Dumbara and Lions Club
of Kotikawatta Excellence, by expanding the Lion community. Altogether there
are 3 remaining charter members in the Lions Club of Koswatta.
Along the way, among numerous service projects, some major projects that were
undertaken came into the spotlight,
• Construction of a Library Building at Sri Subhodi Kanishta Vidyalaya

Koswatta.
• Construction of a Smart Classroom Sri Subhodi Kanishta Vidyalaya Koswatta.
• Donation of Milk Powder worth Rs. 2,000,000.00 for drought relief.
• Donation of Rs. 17.0 million to Tsunami Reconstruction fund.

Turning into the highest hierarchical positions held by Lions of the Club, Lion
Saman Jinadasa serves as the 2nd Vice District Governor whereas Lion Chamindu
Abeywickrama has acted as the District Governor in 2013/2014 Lionistic year, and
in present, he serves as the Multiple Council Chairman.
