KIU Reaches the Forefront

A Unique Sphere of Wisdom
KIU is a leading non-state degree awarding higher educational institute accredited by the
Ministry of Higher Education and recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri
Lanka. Located in the industrial city, Colombo, KIU stands as an educational idol exhibiting its
uniqueness through highly acclaimed educational programmes, innovative learning and teaching
platforms, advanced research and inventions, a dynamic and highly accomplished panel of
lecturers and most specially outstanding graduates who excel in their respective disciplines.
Moving beyond the traditional boundaries of higher education and reaching towards the globally
recognized educational dimensions, KIU strives to contribute towards realizing the vision of the
Sri Lankan government to make Sri Lanka the „Knowledge Hub of Asia‟.
With the vital vision to enable students to experience an unparalleled educational journey that is
intellectually, socially, and personally transformative empowering with the highest quality
appropriate to global needs, KIU has been playing an imperative role within the Sri Lankan
educational atmosphere. KIU has striven to chart distinct pathways to academic excellence since
its inception, and the wider goal has always been to expand the higher education opportunities
in Sri Lanka. Through creating its identity with creativity, complexity, diversity, and innovative
pathways, KIU has led its presence to be distinguished in the Sri Lankan educational context.

With the inception of the academic journey in 2015, KIU introduced three-degree programmes.
Consequently, owing to the successful academic performances the scope has significantly
expanded facilitating ten undergraduate degree programmes and four post- graduate degree
programmes so far. At present, this flourishing academic sphere consists of Faculty of Nursing,
Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Education
and Languages, and Faculty of Graduate Studies. They are committed to conferring the
undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes to harmonize with the requirements of the
modern era and the emerging trends in the professional and corporate world. Accommodating
more than 6000 undergraduate and post-graduate students under its protective wings, KIU leads
them to be educated and develop esteemed personalities who aspire to serve the nation taking
responsibilities and strategically facing challenges as accountable citizens.

A Learner Friendly Environment

KIU is fully committed to providing local and international students with the highest quality in
education with pioneering degrees and world-class facilities in Sri Lanka. Beautified by a lush
greenery environment, the institute provides a student friendly learning atmosphere that
enhances the students‟ creativity and enthusiasm. The smart classrooms where students are
familiarized with the innovative modern learning experience, motivate students to participate in
the lecture sessions actively. Main Library with its great collection of reading, audio, and video
materials and especially online materials provided through E – library facilitates learning,
teaching, and research, thus motivating students to explore their disciplines with a wider focus.
The gymnasium at KIU is well equipped with a multi-gym and a range of free weights and
aerobic equipment for sports conditioning, and it provides the opportunity for students to
maintain a healthy physique. The science and computer laboratories which are equipped with
technologically advanced and modern appliances and devices, enable students to gain an
enriching learning experience on a practical basis. Further, in mitigating the challenges that
students from distant areas encounter in obtaining accommodation, KIU facilitate students with
accommodation which designed for their comfortability and convenience. The auditorium at
KIU provides a space for conducting seminars, workshops, cultural shows, and special events,
thus exposing students to a state-of-the-art academic sphere.

Reaching Out to the Youth
KIU plays a vital role in the Sri Lankan educational sphere since it is regarded as one of the
most preferred universities under the interest- free loan scheme, which was implemented by the
Ministry of Higher Education to increase higher educational opportunities for the student
community with the partnership of Non-state Educational Institutes. For the past five years KIU
has been considered as the most favoured university by the potential undergraduates, under the
interest free loan scheme. Currently, the following Honors Degree programmes (duration of
four-years ) are offered by KIU and are also available under the interest free loan scheme.
