MESSAGE FROM THE MEMBER RELATIONS DIRECTORS 2021-22
Dear all, I hope this message finds you well. RotaTomorrow (V1.0) is a project that started during my time as a co-chair of one of our projects in the previous year (2020-2021). To adapt to the Covid-19 restrictions, we held RotaTomorrow virtually, during its inaugural year. Later on, I was given the opportunity to serve as the Director of Member Relations Avenue, where I truly understood the transformative power of RotaTomorrow (V2.0). Managing ten projects alongside the main project was no easy task, but it taught me valuable skills that I carry with me to this day. I learned how to work effectively with others, manage my time efficiently, and gain a deeper understanding of how organizations operate. These skills have proven invaluable in my current role at a multinational company. To all the current and future Rotaractors, I want to encourage you to become part of this extraordinary project. RotaTomorrow offers an experience beyond what a single project can provide. It will not only enrich your understanding of the corporate world but also equip you with skills that are applicable to your everyday life. Lastly, I would like to extend my heartfelt wishes for the success of RotaTomorrow (V3.0). This project relies on the support and dedication of both Rotaractors and non-Rotaractors alike. Your contributions are vital in ensuring the triumph of this endeavor. With warm regards, Rtr. Nipuna Ratnayake Co-Director 2021-22 Member Relations Avenue Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya
The simple meaning of the term ‘RotaTomorrow’ is the tomorrow of the Rotaract movement. Through this, we hope to prepare good leaders for the future of the Rotaract movement. It is an attempt to improve human capital economically. I would be right if I said the project ‘RotaTomorrow’ is a place that changed my life and is a turning point. If I remember correctly, I first learnt how to do a project through the ‘RotaTomorrow’ initiative. I can point to the project ‘RotaTomorrow’ as a platform that highlighted me as a leader in my Rotaract life and helped me discover talents I didn’t know. Based on my experiences from the first phase of the project ‘RotaTomorrow,’ I successfully executed the project ‘RotaTomorrow 2.0’ for the 2021-22 Rotaract year. So, for the third consecutive time, the project ‘RotaTomorrow’ is a way to create so many good things for the Rotaract movement. Also, it enhances the happiness in my heart. This is what I have to say to those who are currently in the Rotaract movement, who are waiting to join the Rotaract movement, or to those who don’t know anything about the Rotaract movement. “To serve the society by volunteering, you must join the Rotaract movement. Because the Rotaract movement can make one's future a reality while doing good for the community, join and work with the Rotaract movement with honesty and justice!!” Once again, extending my heartiest congratulations on the project ‘RotaTomorrow 3.0’!! Viva La Rotaract!!! Rtr. Gimhan Rupasinghe Co-Director 2021-22 Member Relations Avenue Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya

Dhanuka Piushan Co-Director 2020-21 Member Relations Avenue Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya
Dear All, In my UOK Rotaract journey, from starting this project with the support of my past president Rtr. Nipuna and his board and coming up with the name "RotaTomorrow" with my best Co-Director Rtr. Dhanuka, to winning the best club service initiation award at the Rotaract Assembly 2021, “RotaTomorrow” has owned a special place in my memory. One of the greatest things I experienced with this project was that I was able to connect directly with almost all the members in the club at the same time. Also, I personally believe that not only me, but all the members had a great time with RotaTomorrow because they got the opportunity to actively participate in initiating their own project ideas and lead them to success. So, as I mentioned, the support that Dhanuka and I received from our past president Rtr. Nipuna and his board, the positive involvement and support of our members and the hard work of our organizing committee made “RotaTomorrow” an awardwinning project in Rotaract District 3220 and I thank all of them for it. Seeing RotaTomorrow 2.0 and now RotaTomorrow 3.0 I’m happy to witness how the club leads good things to the greatest and achieves more and more success. So, I take this opportunity to thank both the organizing committees for continuing the RotaTomorrow legacy and wish them all the very best. Finally, I congratulate the winners of RotaTomorrow 3.0 and all the teams participating in this competition. Maybe you don't have an award in your hands, but I am sure you have gained more than that while doing good for the betterment of the society. Rtn. Madusha Jayarathne Co-Director 2020-21 Member Relations Avenue Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya

ROTATOMORROW 3.0 PROJECTS 19
“Soyuru Piyapath” was an exceptional project carried out by Team 01:Brainiacs, of the Rota Tomorrow Movement organized by the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. Team Brainiacs joined hands to ignite hope through achieving the sustainability development goal, “Basic Education and Literacy” with the aim of uplifting the lives of our compatriots in need of a helping hand. PROJECT “SOYURU PIYAPATH” BY TEAM BRAINIACS Due to the importance of covering all aspects of education and literacy, our project was carried out in four different phases, namely, skills development programme, donation of books for a library, donation of school supplies and an awareness programme on the Importance of Education.
The skills development programme was held with the objective of encouraging students to find out what skills they possess and use it for the betterment of themselves. It was also our hope that whoever did not succeed in academics would find a unique career path through the skills we help bring out in them. The programme was conducted at Sri Rahula Vidyalaya, Wattala and two of our very own undergraduates, Mr. Savindu Kumara and Miss Navodya Wickramasinghe did a spectacular job in introducing the students to the world of creativity. The donation of books and school supplies such as uniforms, shoes, lunch boxes, water bottles, exercise books, classroom charts, world maps Sri Lanka maps and stationery items was also marked a heartwarming initiative as we were able to contribute to brightening the future of the students of Sri Rahula Vidyalaya Wattala and Rajagiriya Roman Catholic School. While all of the above phases were about fulfilling the needs of students who have already experienced the wonders of education, our fourth phase was about giving an opportunity to the parents and children who are not interested in school education, to give second thought about their decisions and actions. Senior Lecturer, Professor Patrick Rathnayake of University of Kelaniya was kind enough to accept our invitation and be the guest speaker at the programme, who did an amazing job reaching out and speaking to the hearts of the participants. It was indeed and impactful movement.
The Rota Tomorrow 3.0 is an ideal platform for every member of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya to unveil their potential through various projects, and the team members of Brainiacs, although faced with many ups and downs, managed to draft a memorable story that will forever be valued and cherished. 23 Project Awake and Alive: Combating Drug Abuse through Creativity and Awareness Project Awake and Alive is an impactful initiative launched under RotaTomorrow by the team 2 - Vanguards of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. In today's world, the prevalence of drug PROJECT “AWAKE AND ALIVE” BY TEAM VANGUARDS abuse among youth has become a serious concern. To address this pressing issue while covering the assigned SDG of ‘Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation’, Project Awake and Alive emerged, aiming to create sustainable outcomes that promote drug prevention and raise awareness about its risks. With a focus on empowering young individuals through digital art, awareness campaigns, and educational initiatives, this project has made significant strides in combatting drug abuse in Sri Lanka. The need for such a project in Sri Lanka is undeniable. Globally, there has been a rise in teen smoking and drug addiction, resulting in a range of detrimental consequences. These include social, biological, economic, and psychological problems, as well as increased rates of crime, violence, injuries, and even fatalities. In Sri Lanka alone, tobacco-related diseases claim the lives of over 12,300 individuals annually. Daily cigarette smoking remains prevalent among adults and even children aged 10 to 14. The smoking prevalence among teenagers aged 13 to 15 is estimated to be around 2%. Recognizing the urgency of addressing this issue, Project Awake and Alive aligns its objectives with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships
The project Awake and Alive was conducted in four distinct phases, each with its specific activities and objectives. In The first phase, the Digital Art & Poster Competition, commenced on 11th March 2023 and concluded on 3rd April 2023. This competition provided a platform for university undergraduates, Rotaractors, and school students to showcase their creative skills through digital art and poster designs. By harnessing the power of creativity, the project aimed to raise awareness and make a lasting impact. The winners were awarded certificates upon selection under two categories which were Digital Art and Digital poster category. Each piece of digital creation presented an insightful awareness on the prevention of drugs and about its dangerous. for the Goals. By addressing these goals, the project seeks to create a positive impact on the overall well-being of individuals and society. Following the art competition, the project moved into its second phase, the Awareness Campaign & Quiz Competition, which took place from 20th March 2023 to 30th March 2023. During this phase, an awareness session was organized at Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya - Sapugaskanda, in collaboration with officials from the
National Dangerous Drugs Control Board of Sri Lanka. Students were educated about the negative impacts of drugs, prevention strategies, and rehabilitation options. To ensure active participation and assess knowledge retention, a quiz competition was held, rewarding winners with certificates and prizes. The third phase of the project involved the launch of a short film titled "Niwaarana," which took place from 5th April 2023 to 11th April 2023. The film was specifically created to highlight the fatal consequences of drug usage, with a focus on the younger generation. Recognizing the influence of social media on youth, the film was shared on the official YouTube page of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. The uniqueness of the short film was that the characters played were spectacular drawings drawn by an undergraduate of the university of Kelaniya while they were given life through the voices of the organziing committee members. The initiative garnered positive feedback and played a crucial role in spreading awareness among the target audience. In the final phase, which occurred from 9th April 2023 to 11th April 2023, the project team launched and donated a book titled "The Lifeline." This book, designed and published by the team, aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and provide support to those affected by it. The project team organized a ceremony to mark the book's launch and donated hard copies to various libraries, including the Library of the University of Kelaniya, Colombo Public Library, Kolonnawa Urban Council Public Library, Wattala Mabola Public Library, and Nugegoda Public Library. Additionally, an e-book version was made available on the official blog page of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, ensuring wider accessibility.
Throughout this journey of executing project Awake & Alive the entire organizing committee worked hard and with immense sense of unity and togetherness to accomplish the task with utmost perfection. Each member went beyond their assigned roles and extended their fullest support and dedication to present a successful and impactful project. A huge appreciation goes to the entire team for the exemplary teamwork, unwavering commitment and continuous effort. Project Awake and Alive stands as a testament to the power of youth engagement, creativity, and collaboration in addressing the crucial issue of drug abuse. By involving young individuals and promoting awareness through art and educational initiatives this project brings hope in the fight against drug addiction. Through its sustainable efforts, Awake and Alive inspires a generation to lead drug-free lives, creating a brighter and healthier future for Sri Lanka. Writer Rtr. Christine Hamit
What happens when you put a few strangers together for a competition? Nothing new! They become friends, and then they strive to work hard to win the competition. However, this is different, but how? Let us take you on the journey of RotaTomorrow, team 3, "Monarchy". PROJECT “SAVIYA” BY TEAM MONARCHY The team gained the category of microfinance and business development. After coming up with the project name "Saviya," we started to brainstorm ideas. At first, no one had any idea what to do, but then, with the assistance of our team leader and mentor, the committee came up with a brilliant idea. We decided to help those who are interested in starting small businesses by providing them with the necessary knowledge so that we can encourage them to achieve more. The project was based on offering courses to people to help them with their ongoing businesses. Therefore, we decided to carry out the project in three phases, where the first and second phases were sessions on food production and the third phase was to distribute free necessary equipment to a selected individual to continue his or her job easily. It happened unexpectedly; as Rotaractors, we were all aware of RotaTomorrow. The day the team came up with an organizing committee and decided on the name "Monarchy" is when we became closer because we knew that we had to work hard, not just because this was a competition but mainly because we wanted to do something good for the society.
Further elaborating the project, the first phase of the project "Saviya" happened on the 24th of March in Yakkala. On this day, we partnered with the Industrial Development Board and conducted a session on how to make jam and cordial using different fruits. This session was a success as we were able to offer people knowledge with an insightful practical session. We are also grateful for the feedback that we received from the participants. Implementing a project in Sri Lanka during this time of economic crisi is quite challenging, especially when it comes to collecting funds. However, with our enthusiastic members, we were able to collect enough funds through drink stalls and ER hunts. On the 8th of April 2023, we decided to carry out the second phase of the project in Kiribathgoda. We were able to conduct another session, but this time it was completely free as we covered the whole cost. The session was on cake and biscuitmaking with rice flour. Everyone who attended the session on this day was happy, as this was a new experience for them too. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Saman, the project officer for the districts of Ampara, Monaragala, and Batticaloa of the National Institute of Post Harvest Management, for being the resource person for the first two phases of the project.
The third phase of the project was condcuted on the 12th of April 2023. We selected one lucky participant who attended the last session and provided him free electronic equipment to carry out his ongoing small business. He was really happy because now he is able to take orders without any complications and is able to save a lot of time as well. This is how we wrote the final chapter of our project; by bringing light into another person’s life. "Saviya" is about giving a helping hand to those who truly deserve it in order to build a better version of themselves. The project has also helped to create a sense of community among small business owners by providing a platform for them to connect, share ideas, and support each other in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Not just that, another thing that we realized by working on this project was that if we get together and decide to do something good, we can always achieve it no matter what. Now it is time to put the full stop to our journey, which was challenging but also worth it in the end. Writer Rtr. Isora Liyanaarachchi
To bring relief to a wearying journey… Flashing back to 12 months, do you remember how frustrated you were due to the lack of transportation due to the fuel crisis that existed in the country? Would you believe the fact that it PROJECT “YAATHRA” BY TEAM PEYTONS Thus, ‘Ýaathra’ was begun to end a wearying journey and bring relief to our own communities. “Yaathra” was initiated by Team 04, “Peytons” of Rota Tomorrow 3.0 under the project category, community development and engagement. In looking for ways to develop the community, infrastructure facilities were taken into consideration. While looking for the deserving, it was found that both children and adults in the village, Palampitiya in Sabaragamuwa province, Sri Lanka are seeking for a solution for their public transportation difficulty. Accordingly, the project was carried out under the guidance of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLBT), Avissawella and it was a great assistance to complete the project ensuring the sustainability of this initiative. The vision was to serve an underprivileged community through an attempt to minimize the wastage of public property in the country. Accordingly, a mission was put forward by ‘Peytons’ to refurbish a bus that was abandoned at the SLBT depot due to engine failure. happens daily in some regions of our country which are just less than 50km away from an urban area?
While following the necessary steps to make the dream a reality, the major challenge of the project was to collect the needed revenue for this initiative. Although it was challenging and difficult, the leaders never forgot to make it a cheerful journey. Several fundraising campaigns were done in Colombo, Gampaha, and Galle by the committee members and the supportive team never let the spark dull in spite of the fatigue and hassles faced by everyone. Fundraising was aimed to be done with the engagement of the community, and the willing participation of kind-hearted Sri Lankans in making donations must be highly appreciated. It should not be forgotten the benevolent partnerships and sponsorships that were received to reach the destination of the journey of victory. Eventually, the project was successfully completed on 10th April after handing over the funds collected and receiving the confirmation letter with gratitude from the Sri Lanka Transport Board, Avissawella for the precious project that was carried out. The happiness of seeing the refurbished bus run on the road was countless. It was the determination that ‘Peytons’ had since the beginning, achieving ultimate selfsatisfaction. Writer Rtr. Pinsari Saubhagya
“Keeping one's health is the first step to lead a contented and wealthy life.” Large swaths of Sri Lanka's population do not, however, have access to a sufficient diet, adequate medical treatment, or even instructions regarding how to improve and protect their health. PROJECT “DEEGHAYU” BY TEAM TREMENDOUS The Project “Deeghayu” was initiated by the RotaTomorrow – Tremendous - Team 05 of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya with the intention of preventing diseases and conducting a free medical camp and awareness session for the underprivileged people. 35 "පරවෙ න්න හදන මල් ඇහැ රවන්න…" Aharenna was an initiative taken by the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya as a part of the mother project Rota Tomorrow 3.0 organized by the Member relations avenue. Our Team, Vamos PROJECT “AHARENNA” BY TEAM VAMOS was provided with the SDG goal of Women Empowerment, and we really wanted to do something different and something that's out of the Box. So, we came up with the idea of Selecting 5 ladies from different locations of Sri Lanka, who are widowed but has a family to feed, and are trying to stand on their own through self-employment but expects and needs Financial and Resource Support. Once we started our research we found some Ideal Ladies that matches our criteria from the locations Kadawatha, Kaduwela, Homagama, and Matara. We visited them and we gathered information about the resources and support that they currently need.
After this we started raising funds through Company outreach and also by selling a ticket for the people by showcasing the value of the project that we are trying to do. Once we raised ER, we were able to purchase A Digital Scale and a Sealer for Mrs. Niluka (Kadawatha), A Sewing Machine for Mrs. Udayangani (Kaduwela), A large Digital Scale for Mrs. Irangani (Matara), 20 yards of Serviette Material for Mrs. Renuka (Homagama) and a 100 feet water hose and a Wheelbarrow for Mrs. Renuka (Matara). We always see situations and instances where girls are abused and exploited where a main reason for this becomes the lack of knowledge of young girls on how to defend themselves. Therefore, parallel to this we initiated our next Phase which was a Self Defense workshop series for School going girls. We were able to carry out this workshop for nearly 400 girls at St Anne's Convent- Wattala and at Newstead College Negombo and we received really good comments from the Principles, Teachers, as well as students on being bold enough to take an initiative like this.
This Workshop was conducted by Mr. Chinthaka Fernando, a professional Third Grade Shito Coach. This project was an ultimate success, and we are so glad that we were able to conclude this project by ensuring the sustainability of the measures we took in order to Empower, Strengthen, and To Support women. As they say… " When You start doing something with a good heart…success will always follow, and even if sometimes it seems impossible, with a Team of Spirited individuals the impossibility becomes a possibility…" VAMOS! Finally, a program was initiated to cultivate plants for sustainability purposes. The school principal agreed to maintain the plantation, and the harvested crops would be used to make porridge for students with the parents' assistance. Phase Three of the project was held on April 5th, at the Base Hospital in Kiribathgoda, and it was a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community.
