This project was a beautiful journey of two phases that left a lasting impact on the lives of the school community at Kadawatha Vidyaloka Vidyalaya and the child community from Sri Wimalawansa Early Childhood Development Centre, Rammuthugala, Kadawatha. The first phase was dedicated to renovating a rundown washroom, which was no longer fit for use. Our team of dedicated individuals poured their hearts and soul into transforming the space. They replaced the old, worn-out pipes with new ones and painted the washroom in vibrant colours that brought a sense of freshness and cleanliness to the entire school. They laboured tirelessly for more than six hours to bring about this change because it was the team members that contributed with labour as well. The project "මෙ හෙ වර" was initiated by Squadron, the eleventh team in the "Rota Tomorrow 3.0" initiative, which was PROJECT “MEHEWARA” BY TEAM SQUADRON

MY ROTATOMORROW EXPERIENCE 71

72 My Rotaract Journey has always been my greatest memory in my University Memory Album and RotaTomorrow and the experience I’ve gained through the RT initiative holds a greater importance in it. RotaTomorrow has always been the place where all the members gets the chance to get together, meet new faces away from their assigned avenue, work for a set goal, and most importantly it’s like a training all Rotaractors get for the upcoming year, for specifically those who will be selected as the executive board and the board of directors. It is that place where true potential is identified and awarded to the fullest contentment. And it is for sure the place every Rotaractor gives their BEST SHOT! Starting my RotaTomorrow journey as a co-chair last year being awarded as the most effective co-chair and ending my RotaTomorrow journey as a mentor being awarded as the Best Mentor, was truly a coincidence and was truly a magical and a long journey’. Being a mentor, I had to step out of my comfort zone which is to plan and execute projects, and I didn’t have to plan this time. Instead, I had to always be the backup plan for my teammates, Team 8, Team Conquerors. And my crazy little minions did not make it easier for me as they chose one of the hardest SDG goals to cover, yet with the aspiration and hard work of my minions, along with the wonderful team leader I got, made the impossible possible and the outcome was indeed impeccable to its core. I am glad of my decision to become a part of this exquisite RT journey. My mentorship wouldn’t have been a smooth ride if not for the support I got from all ends, and I am indeed happy that I was a part of this great initiative which indeed helped in molding true spirits in Rotaract and showing what our members are really capable of. Thus, RotaTomorrow 3.0 will always hold a very soft spot in my heart. Rtr. Dinithi Lorensuhewa Mentor – Project FlexEd

73 “Nothing is Impossible” Being the mentor for the project Yathra can be defined as one of the best platforms I received throughout my Rotaract journey. It was initiated by the team 5, “Peytons” of RotaTomorrow 3.0. I consider the project an opportunity for inventing the members’ ideas. While I’m giving my guidance, I gave them freedom to carry out their new ideas and skills. It taught me that “if our aim is honest, we need only dedication and teamwork to make it a real.” However, by selecting the best idea for the project, our aim was to facilitate transportation in a rural area. Through an investigation, we identified that there was only one bus for the route from Avissawella to Pelampitiya. The request of villagers was to provide a bus for school time. Accordingly, we began our way to success during numerous obstacles. Especially, the given 2 months for the project taught everyone that ‘team spirit makes every impossible act a possible reality’. As the mentor for the project, I am really proud to say that my team is the best investment for its success. That’s why we could achieve the award for the Best Team Spirit. We had 20+ meetings including physical and virtual gatherings to share our ideas and suggestions especially for ER hunting. Specifically, we selected surroundings near Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo for our ER hunting and also Galle fort. Further, we sang songs in trains for ER hunting and the specialty was some of beggars in trains gave their hands for us to do this social service. Moreover, everyone wholeheartedly committed for this process by connecting with their personal contacts for raising fund. Undoubtedly, I should say here that the project was deliberated by everyone as a social responsibility as youth beyond a project expecting nothing in return. However, I believe that ‘Most Innovative Idea, The Best Team Spirit, The Most Sustainable Project, The Best Member, The Best Co- chair and the Best Coordinator, Nominee for the Best Mentor and Nominee for the Best Team Leader’ are some of the evidences that prove the team for the project Yathra has successfully accomplished another remarkable memories and experiences to their lives. In short, being the mentor for the family Peytons added more values to my life by investing new experiences. Rtr. Duleetha Sandaruwan Mentor – Project Yathra

75 RotaTomorrow; a perfect blend of competition, volunteerism, inspiration, learning and sustainability. As the Mentor of Team 02 – Vanguards of RotaTomorrow 3.0 I was rewarded with a memorable journey of mentorship which sparkled with immense team spirit and togetherness. Since the initiation of the team each member dedicated themselves to brainstorm and execute a project aiming to add value to the SDG of ‘Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation’. I am beyond thrilled to have had the honor of being the Mentor for this incredible team, where every member showcased their exceptional skills and talents. It was an absolute delight to witness their collaborative efforts, which ultimately led to the successful implementation of the project Awake & Alive. Mentoring a project of a unique dimension was a challenging endeavor since extending our service to the society based on this SDG seemed to have boundaries which challenged sustainability. But this journey took an amazing twist as we implemented 4 impactful phases. Project Awake & Alive though one initiative gifted me the mentoring and executing experience of a competition, awareness session, short film premiering and book launching all in one. It was a total bundle of extraordinary outcomes! Though I was the assigned mentor to overlook the team, my approach went beyond just mentoring. I actively worked alongside the organizing committee, ensuring that my guidance and support extended beyond traditional mentorship boundaries. By actively participating in the planning and implementing of the project, I intended to foster a collaborative environment which I believe encouraged the team to work and create a much friendly and flexible atmosphere. A huge appreciation goes to the team leader of Vanguards and the organizing committee for the tremendous efforts undertaken. RotaTomorrow not only inspires to build bonds within teams but also it is a stage of fostering friendships beyond them. Being a mentor within the vibrant realm of RotaTomorrow 3.0 has gifted me with a treasure trove of invaluable knowledge, where I have conquered tremendous learning experiences. A heartfelt thank you to RotaTomorrow 3.0 for providing me with such a magical opportunity to unleash my mentoring prowess and be a part of something truly extraordinary. This chapter will forever be etched in my book of golden experiences, reminding me of the transformative power of mentorship, the joy of learning, and the magnificence of friendships. Rtr.
