CULTURAL
CULTURAL - HBCU: Our teens are invited to join us on the Spring Break HBCU Tour from March 19 – 24, 2018 where they
will have an opportunity to visit Spelman College, Clark Atlantic University, Morehouse College, North Carolina Central State
University, Norfolk State University, Hampton University and Howard University. They will receive a special tour and Q&A
session at Spelman from one of our Jack and Jill graduates. Also, on November 18, 2017 our teens are taking a tour of the
University of Pittsburgh and participating in a college admission session including a session on “What to Include on You High
School Resume.”
CULTURAL - JACK & JILL HISTORY: As we approach our 75th Anniversary (2018), we are collecing Jack and Jill
memorabilila and stories from Associate members and other Jack and Jill families in the Greater Pittsburgh area. We will
feature a mini exhibit during our Founders’ Day Brunch in January and will also share many of the items and stories with our
children during Jack and Jill Day. This year, we watch a video about Carole Robertson during Jack and Jill Day.
EDUCATION
EDUCATION - LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: The Pittsburgh Chapter is in the process of starting a Gavel Club from 6th -
12th graders. They will have an opportunity to write their own speeches, deliver them to an audience and receive constructive
criticism. We will use this as a vehicle to coach our children to compete in oratorical contests both in the school system
and through Jack and Jill. Our teens are encouraged to join the debate club at their respective schools and seek leadership
positions in their student government groups.
EDUCATION - FINANCIAL LITERACY: Our Curious Crawfords and Steel Curtain Kids will participate in a session where they
will be enrolled in the Fund My Future Pittsburgh Program. This is designed to help children set up an interest bearing savings
account. They will be rewarded each time a deposit is made.
EDUCATION - STEAM: On Friday, February 23, 2018, our Curious Crawfords and Steel Curtain Kids will have a sleepover
at the Carnegie Science Center. They will put on their thinking caps as they design, build and test feats of engineering genius
during the Engineering Challenge Sleepover. They will defy gravity with a da Vinci bridge, build and race cars powered by
balloons and challenge their sleep-mates to a tower building contest.
HEALTH
HEALTH - HEALTHY LIVING: In March, our Curious Crawfords will take to the great outdoors for a biking tour, with lessons
including proper fitting, safety and biking etiquette.
HEALTH - MENTAL ILLNESS: Our Captains of Industry (teen group) will spend an afternoon in April participating in a seminar
hosted by Gateway Medical Society. This seminar (conducted by African American doctors from the Pittsburgh area) will
focus on Teen Mental Illness, Behavioral Health Issues, Depression and Substance Abuse. Also, our Talented Turrentines and
Captains of Industry will participate in the Pittsburgh Fitness Expo where they will participate in sessions and activities focused
on sports, nutrition and fitness. The expo is designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles for all ages and abilities.
106
CIVIC
CIVIC / LEGISLATIVE: “Our Families Matter” – POPs (Father’s Auxiliary) is planning a Chapter-wide Career Day. The POPs
will set up stations where the children can learn and gather information on careers including: Law/Law Enforcement, Banking/
Financial Services, Entrepreneurship, Medicine, Sports Management, Diversity and Inclusion, Higher Education, Teaching, etc.
CIVIC / COMMUNITY SERVICE: Once again, our entire chapter will participate in the Heritage Community Initiative which
provides Christmas gifts for children of incarcerated parents. This outreach has become a Pittsburgh Chapter tradition. We will
pick a shopping day in December and head to Target to purchase gifts for these special children.
In January our chapter will return to the Ronald McDonald House for our MLK Day of Service and serve food to families that
have loved ones being cared for in the Ronald McDonald House.
In February, the entire chapter will visit Faison Elementary School to participate in a “Love Yourself” Event. This is an annual self
esteem enhancing event for girls and is a great opportunity for our teens and associate moms to get involved. In May, we will
return to Faison for an “I Matter” Event. This is the boys’ counterpart to “Love Yourself” and also a great opportunity for Dads
and teens to get involved and give back.
SOCIAL / RECREATIONAL
SOCIAL / RECREATIONAL - ORATORICAL MASTERS: The Pittsburgh Chapter is in the process of starting a Gavel Club
from 6th - 12th graders. They will have an opportunity to write their own speeches, deliver them to an audience and receive
constructive criticism. We will use this as a vehicle to coach our children to compete in oratorical contests both in the school
system and through Jack and Jill. Our teens are encouraged to join the debate club at their respective schools and seek
leadership positions in their student government groups.
Our children are encouraged to say the blessing during chapter-wide activities and also to usher us home with prayer. During
Grade Group activities the children are often called on to welcome our special guests provide feedback on how each event
was received.

FATHER’S AUXILLIARY PROGRAMMING
Pittsburgh
In April 2018, we will be treating the POPs (Father’s Auxilliary) to a golf outing and lunch at Diamond Run as part of our
Father’s Appreciation Program. They are very active in our chapter and supportive of the monthly activities. They serve as our
grillers, heavy lifters and moral support. We appreciate the example they are setting for all of our children.
They also have a very strong male bond. They have monthly Happy Hours and Cigar Tastings. In 2018, they will be hosting
special Career Fair for our Children.
114
CHAPTER FUNDRAISERS
Our largest fundraiser is our bi-annual presentation ball. We raise
a significant amount of money through our ball and it gives us an
opportunity to donate to the Jack and Jill Foundation, a local chairty
as well as offer scholarships to our teens.
CHAPTER CEREMONIES
Our largest fundraiser is our bi-annual presentation ball. We raise

OTHER SPECIAL PROGRAMS
We have a robust Community Service Plan with avtivties planned
every month. These are standalone activities most of the time, but are
sometimes in collaboration with Grade Group activities.
President Alexis and Vice President Janine will conduct 4 New Mother
Member conference calls throughout the 2017-18 program year. The
calls are designed to answer any questions they may have as a new
member. Pertinent information about J&J will be shared in hopes of
helping them better acclimate to the organization.
JACK AND JILL NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE
Each year, we come together as a chapter to feed families at the
Ronald McDonald House. Our young children pack trail mix bags so
that each family can take a snack back to their rooms. Older children
cook and serve. We do this activity each year on MLK Day in January.
