Welcome from the
Western Golf Association

Since 1899, the Western Golf Association has
been proud to conduct the Western Amateur, an
international championship as prestigious and
challenging as any in the game of golf.
This week, we welcome our 2021 Western Amateur

contestants to historic Glen View Club, a site that
played a critical role in the very founding of our
organization. Glen View Club was one of 11
Chicago-area clubs that came together to form

the WGA in 1899. Later that year, it hosted the
first Western Amateur championship, won by Kevin Buggy John Kaczkowski

Chairman of the Board

Welcome to Glen View Club and
the 119th Western Amateur Championship

Dear Western Amateur Patrons,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, our members and the staff of Glen View
Club, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our historic grounds and to thank
you for your support of this highly prestigious amateur golf event.
It is our club’s privilege to host the 119th such tournament after hosting the
very first in 1899. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, both the
Western Golf Association and Glen View Club played prominent roles in
advancing the great game of golf west of the Alleghenies. We are proud of
our long and meaningful association with this great organization. As a
predominantly “caddie club,” we are thrilled to participate in any event
that supports the Evans Scholars Foundation.
We hope you might find interest in some of the history recounted inside this
program. More importantly, we hope you will appreciate that as you walk the
fairways of our golf course, the routing of the holes remains essentially the
same as when the very first participants in the Western Amateur tested their
P. Scott Buhl
President, Glen View Club skills here.
Good luck to this year’s talented competitors who made their way to Chicago.
May they, and all of us, enjoy some memorable days together.

Sincerely,

P. Scott Buhl
President, Glen View Club

Welcome from the
Western Amateur Committee

Dear Western Amateur Patrons,
On behalf of the Tournament Committee and the hundreds of volunteers who
have made the 119th Western Amateur possible, I want to thank you for your
support of this important annual event and the wonderful cause it benefits.
We are pleased to report that through the efforts of many Glen View Club
members, corporate sponsors and advertisers, we have established a new
record for contributions to the Evans Scholars Foundation by a host club for
the Western Amateur. Through the commitment of these donors, we have
permanently endowed a new Evans Scholars Scholarship for Glen View Club
caddies which will provide a lifetime of benefits to many university-bound
young men and women. We thank all of the members and sponsors for their
generous support.

And a very special thanks to those hundreds of volunteers, referenced earlier,
who have handled the countless details related to player transportation,
guest services and hospitality, communication and marketing, program
Rick Waddell
development, golf course and tournament operations, fundraising, Chair, 2021 Western Amateur Championship
financial stewardship and so much more.

This tournament would also not be possible without the extra hours of
preparation put in by Glen View’s Grounds & Greens Team along with our
Golf Pro Shop Staff, Clubhouse Staff and General Management. It has been
a wonderful team effort, and my gratitude couldn’t be greater.

Sincerely,

Rick Waddell

2020 Western Amateur Recap
Pierceson Coody brings another Western Amateur title for Texas
three-putted the 17th for a bogey to lose,
and he made only one birdie in the final.
“I didn’t really hit it that close, but I had
a lot of good looks,” he said. “It seemed
to me like my putts wouldn’t drop. I
started gaining momentum at the turn,
but I hit a couple of bad shots that
really hurt me.”
Coody became the seventh Texas
Longhorn to win the Western Amateur,
following in the footsteps of major
champions Ben Crenshaw and Justin
Leonard. The most recent champion
from Texas was Cole Hammer, of
Houston, Texas, who won at Sunset
Ridge Country Club in Northfield,
Illinois, in 2018. Hammer and Coody

“It’s definitely a steppingstone, and it
feels so good,” he said. “It was such a
tough test. The pins in the afternoon
were absolutely brutal. The course is so
punishing if you miss it in the wrong
spots. But I had a lot of consistent play.
That was the key.”
Although he led from start to finish,
