List of Games

Game # 1: Hoop Raiders

Skill Focus: This game focuses on teamwork, motivation, and physical fitness

Equipment: Hula Hoops, bean bags

Time Required: 10-15 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• Divide students into 2 teams.
• Have students stand next to the empty hula hoop where they will drop their bean bag in.
• When the teacher blows the whistle, each team will send one member to go to the other

team’s side to grab one bean bag.
• The student will bring the bean bag back to the hula hoop and high-five their next

teammate to signal switch.
• The student that the runner just high-fived is the new runner and they must go and run to

grab the next bean bag from the other teams’ hula hoop.
• The team who grabs all of the bean bags and secures it in their team’s hula hoop wins.

Game #2: Pick-Pocket Tag

Skill Focus: The focus of this game is to assist with awareness of surroundings, gross motor
skills, playing safely and cooperatively.

Equipment: Flags

Time Required: 10-20 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• Pass out flags to each student, have them put it around their waist.
• When the coach blows the whistle, each student must try to defend their flag, while going

after other students’ flags.
• The players who collect the most tails in a specific amount of time are the winners.

Game #3: Octopus

Skill Focus: This game focuses on teamwork, honesty, motivation, and physical fitness

Equipment: Tape

Time Required: 10-15 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• All children line up on one side of the playing area.
• The student whose birthday is closest the day the game is played the student gets to pick

if they want to be the octopus or pass it on to another student.
• The octopus stands in the middle of the court.
• When the octopus yells “octopus” everyone must try to run to the other side of the ocean

to be safe from being caught.
• When a student is caught they sit where they were caught and become seaweed.
• Seaweed people get to help the octopus by staying seated and use their limbs to reach and

touch the “fish” as the run near.
• If they catch the fish the students must also become seaweed.
• Once all the fish are caught the game is over.

Game #4: Cotton Ball Relay

Skill Focus: This game focuses on teamwork, motivation, hand-eye coordination, balance and
physical fitness

Equipment: Cotton balls, 2 large bowls, 2 spoons

Time Required: 10-15 minutes.

Space Required: Half court

Rules and Instructions:

• Divide students into 2 groups, have them count off.
• Place a bowl of cotton balls at the start line for each team (however many students there

are; 1 ea.) Place an empty bowl on the finish line for each team.
• To start the game, when the coach blows the whistle the game will begin, the first player

will take the spoon, and get a cotton ball, place the cotton ball on the spoon and walk it
down to the empty bowl and drop it in.
• When the student drops the cotton ball in the bowl they must run back to their team and
hand off the spoon to the next teammate.
• Students must make the cotton ball to the other side without touching the cotton ball to
keep it on the spoon.

• If the cotton ball falls during the race the student must begin again from the start line.
• The first team to get all their team’s cotton balls in the finish line bowl wins the Cotton

Ball Relay Race.

Game #5: Stuck in Quicksand

Skill Focus: The focus of this game is to build students speed as well as their ability to pay
attention, listen to others, and help their team members.

Equipment: None

Time Required: 15-20 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• One player must be chosen “it”
• All the other players must be scattered around the room and must avoid being tagged
• If a player is tagged, he or she must freeze in the place where they were tagged, with their

legs and arms wide apart
• For the player to be unfrozen, one of the non-tagged players will have to crawl under

their legs
• Players who are crawling under players legs are safe and cannot be tagged out for helping
• The game ends if everyone is tagged and is “Stuck in the quicksand”

Game #6: Nerves of STEEL

Skill Focus: This game focuses on students building reflexes as well as maintaining awareness
and locomotor skills.

Equipment: Ball

Time Required: 20-30 minutes.

Space Required: Half court

Rules and Instructions:

• Players will begin by gathering around in a circle
• A leader will be chosen and will stand in the middle of the circle
• The players in the circle must keep their arms and hands by their side the entire game
• The leader can throw a ball at any player or pretend to throw to bait the players
• Their arms may not move unless the ball is being thrown
• If the player catches the ball, then he or she must join inside the circle
• If their arms move when the ball is not being thrown, then the player must run half of a

lap.

Game #7: Steal the shirt

Skill Focus: The focus of this game is to enhance listening skills.

Equipment: 2 large Hula Hoops and a shirt

Time Required: 15-20 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• Split players into two teams and number off
• Each player must remember their number
• Each team will have their own home base (Hula Hoop)
• The object of the game is to get the t-shirt into the other teams Hula Hoop
• The coach/person in charge will shout out a number and the players with the number will

get up from a push up positions and run to get the t-shirt
• If you run and get the t-shirt first and get tagged as you run with it, you drop the t-shirt

where you are standing and go back to your team
• The coach/person in charge will call the next number and you will play the t-shirt from

where is at on the floor
• First team to score wins

Game #8: Dry Marco Polo

Skill Focus: The focus of this game is to enhance listening skills and awareness of your
surroundings.

Equipment: Cones (to set boundaries), and blindfold

Time Required: 15-20 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• One player will be chosen to be “it”, and will also be blindfolded
• The player who is blindfolded will yell “Marco” and all the other players must yell

“Polo”
• If a player gets tagged, that player also become “it” but instead of being blindfolded they

stay in the spot they were tagged at and keep their eyes open for oncoming passers that
can be tagged
• The last one standing is the winner

Game #9: Relay of Fire

Skill Focus: This game focuses on teamwork, motivation, and physical fitness.

Equipment: Ball, Hula Hoop, Jump rope, whistle

Time Required: 10-15 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• Players will be split into two teams
• Group 1 should be split in half and stand on opposite sides of the court (Group 2 will do

the same)
• One side will begin when the whistle is blown
• Each player is to go through each obstacle
• First go through the Hula Hoop
• Second, jump the jump rope ten times
• And last, grab the ball and do 3 squats with it
• Tag the next person in your team so they can do it on the way back
• When you finish, and you have tagged your teammate go to the end of the line and sit

down to signalize that you are finished, the first group to sit down wins

Game #10: Spin and Run

Skill Focus: This game focuses on teamwork, gross motor skills, balance and physical fitness

Equipment: Baseball bat

Time Required: 10-15 minutes.

Space Required: Half court

Rules and Instructions:

• Divide students into 2 groups, have them count off.
• When the coach blows the whistle, students will begin the game.
• Students are to spin in 5 times while holding the baseball bat to the floor, the students

head and body will follow the bat.
• Once the student is finished spinning in a circle they must try to run to the finish line.
• When the student makes it to the finish line the next teammate will repeat spinning

around with the baseball and running.
• The first team to finish with all their teammates at the finish line wins.

Game #11: Ultimate Frisbee

Skill Focus: The focus of this game is to assist with team-working skills and enhance your
listening skills.

Equipment: Frisbee

Time Required: 20-30 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• Divide the players into two equal teams
• Each team must set a goal and stand with one foot on it (line for example)
• As soon as the frisbee is released all players are free to move
• One team will begin the game by throwing the frisbee to the other team
• The team catching the frisbee passes it among its players as they move toward the

opposite team’s goal line
• The player holding the frisbee cannot move their feet, until they make a catch or have

passed the frisbee to another player
• A point is scored each time a team can get the frisbee successfully over the goal line of

the other team
• If a pass is dropped, the opposing team gets the frisbee where it was dropped
• The objective is to score more goals than the opposing teams

Game #12: Monkey Tag

Skill Focus: The focus of this game is to assist with team-working skills, gross motor skills, fine
motor skills, and teamwork.

Equipment: Players

Time Required: 20-30 minutes.

Space Required: Full court

Rules and Instructions:

• Divide the players 4 students will be the tagger
• The rest of the students who are not a tagger must run away from the tagger when the

whistle is blown by the coach.
• When the players are tagged by the tagger, the must lie on their backs, feet up in the air.
• If another student can touch both feet with their elbow before being caught, the student

they touched will be free.
• When coach blows the whistle again game is over and choose new students to be the

taggers.
