TMGT 4313 Page 18 Boat tour around Geopark (Source: Site Visit to Langkawi) OUTCOMES ISSUES AND PROBLEMS SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT IMPACTS OF PROGRAM SUMMARY OF ANALYSIS OUTCOMES eoSites such as Kubang Badak Bio Geo Trail, Machinchang Cambrian Geo Forest Park, Kilim Karst Geo Forest Park and Dayang Bunting Marble Geo Forest Park are few of the accessibilities and infrastructure that offer tourists the breathtaking landscape of emerald green river water, pristine mangrove forests and towering limestone rock formations and many varieties of fishes and if you are lucky, you can also spot an otter or even a dolphin. Other than that, 5 and 4 Star hotels consist of 10 and 15 hotels are the accommodation that can be obtained in Langkawi. One of the 5 Star hotel is St. Regis Hotel that offering the guest the experience of its legendary rituals, transporting you to a world of pure resort luxury. G Accessibility includes ease of independent approach, entry, evacuation and/or use of a building and its services and facilities, with an assurance of individual health, safety and welfare during the course of those activities. Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical systems of a business, region, or nation and often involves the production of public goods or production processes. Examples of infrastructure include transportation systems, communication networks. LANGKAWI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY MANAGEMENT: ACCESSIBILITIES & INFRASTRUCTURE T M G T 4 3 1 3 | S U L A M - I I U M
Boat tour around Geopark (Source: Site Visit to Langkawi) TMGT 4313 Page 19 Another accessibilities and infrastructure that available are buses, boats, cars, vans, and ferries. In terms of safety and security, LADA practice the use of lifeguards jacket whenever tourist would like to ride a boat for a tour. Other than that, the authority will always make sure that all the boats are in a good condition to operate by regularly conduct maintenance services on all of their infrastructure and accessibilities. ISSUES AND PROBLEM The administration of RoRo is having trouble maintaining its ferry operations, which is one of the transportation-related issues. Due to the RoRo's absence, Langkawi cannot maximize the amount of tourists arrival. nother issue is that boats are the primary mode of transportation in Langkawi GeoForest Park, harming the park's natural ecosystems. This occurred as a result of the high speed boat rides that produce large waves that gradually degrade the local natural resources. For instance, it will erode mangroves and karst. Problems with accessibility for people with disabilities (PWDs) exist in addition to that. It was observed during the site visit that there aren't many accessible features, such as ramps, that PWDs may utilize. Ramps, however, are only present in the primary structure. Not only that, some of the ramps available are not accessible for PWDs as the ramps are too steep and vertical. A The crucial recommendation to overcome the issues and problem is by conducting and practicing accessible tourism which lead to a sustainable tourism. Sr Stoneking (2018) indicates that accessibility is the main element of tourism in achieving the sustainable tourism. Hence, one of the effort in achieving accessible and sustainable tourism is by joining a program that specifically focused on the mentioned area. For instance, the suggested event is the top global high-end event; The Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Conference in Asia-Pacific (AITCAP). There were various opinions and thoughts from those who have experienced as well as the panelist of the event. SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT T M G T 4 3 1 3 | S U L A M - I I U M
TMGT 4313 One of them known as Cross (2023) indicates that AITCAP is a new platform for tourism operators in establishing accessible tourism business. He further denotes, the accessible tourism has shown positive impact through the economic revenue as much as RM 36.3 billions in Australia. Additionally, it could build more connection globally which beneficial for the geopark as well. Therefore through the events, Langkawi Geopark could embrace and establish accessible tourism and strengthen sustainable effort. Page 20 IMPACTS OF PROGRAM Sustainable effort in preserving and conserving the nature resources informations were able to retrieved from the LADA respective representative. This also include the effort in accessibility and infrastructure around the geopark itselfs. Based on the program, one of the impacts were increasing the awareness on environment accessibility. For instance, it could be observed on how LADA coordinate the geopark into business as well as considering the impact on the environment. The site visit were able to fulfil the CSR components which is known as environmental responsibility. The participant were able to experience the accessibility and infrastructure provided in the geopark. Besides, it can be observed on the sustainable practices throughout the ride on boat. For instance, there were guidelines imprints towards the boatman which is to follow the speed that has been set by LADA. Journey in Langkawi (Source: Site Visit to Langkawi)
OUTCOME ANALYSIS: MANAGEMENT: NATURAL & CULTURAL RESOURCES OUTCOMES ISSUES AND PROBLEMS PROBLEMS & ISSUES Island wastes, specifically on solid wastes and marine wastes are among the common issues in the KILIM Geopark. This is because the wastes often comes from the sea and then pushes them ashore. Most of the times, the management invites participants to actively perform CSR activities (community beach cleanup). But even so, there are still wastes from the sea collecting to the shores of the islands. TMGT 4313 LANGKAWI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OUTCOMES In terms of natural and cultural resources, a visit to Kilim, a mangrove forest in Langkawi, Malaysia, yields a variety of results. Going to Kilim offers the chance to spread awareness about the value of protecting natural resources, particularly mangrove ecosystems. By visiting to Kilim also, developing a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving and protecting these delicate environments is a result of experiencing its beauty and uniqueness. Kilim is home to a wide variety of plants and animals, including mangrove trees, different bird species, fish, and reptiles. Experiencing Kilim's rich biodiversity firsthand helps us understand the value of these natural resources and the necessity of their conservation. Environmental Education: The mangrove ecosystem, its ecological importance, and the difficulties it faces are all covered in educational program and guided tours offered by Kilim. Visitors can discover how mangroves are related to other ecosystems and how environmental problems like pollution and deforestation affect them. Cultural Heritage: Kilim is a culturally significant site and a natural treasure. Local communities, including the Malay fishermen, who strongly bond with the mangrove forests, live in the region. Visitors to Kilim can interact with these communities, learn about their customs, and gain knowledge of the region's rich cultural heritage. Kilim promotes ecofriendly tourism methods in an effort to lessen the harm done to cultural and natural resources while maximizing gains for the host communities. Visits to Kilim promote responsible tourism practices, such as sticking to the path, protecting wildlife, and buying local goods. Page 21 T M G T 4 3 1 3 | S U L A M - I I U M
OUTCOME ANALYSIS: MANAGEMENT: COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION OUTCOMES ISSUES AND PROBLEMS SUGGESTIONS IMPACTS TMGT 4313 LANGKAWI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OUTCOMES SUMMARY OF ANALYSIS High dependency of local community towards government sector has been analyzed. Community participation refers to the active involvement and engagement of individuals and groups within a community in decision-making processes, problem-solving, and collective action towards shared goals. It involves the inclusion of community members in shaping policies, programs, and projects that directly affect their lives and well-being. Community participation recognizes the value of local knowledge, perspectives, and experiences, aiming to empower individuals and foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for the development and improvement of their communities.. DEFINITIONS Local community tend to rely solely on the government for the source of income since tourism is the main economy source in Langkawi. Tourist awareness on sustainability is crucial part for Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) to implement the tourism development in Langkawi. LADA has create the path for local communities involvement in planning and developing tourism activities. Efforts also has been made by LADA to provide employment for local community, in which they have listed out all the vacancies in LADA official website. Page 22 LADA's logo T M G T 4 3 1 3 | S U L A M - I I U M
OUTCOME ANALYSIS: MANAGEMENT: COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION Learning tour with Mr. Muzaffar TMGT 4313 LANGKAWI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ISSUES AND PROBLEMS SUGGESTIONS LADA should think about seeking additional funding through partnerships, prioritising capacitybuilding programmes, ensuring clear communication, involving the community in decision-making, establishing feedback mechanisms, and empowering local leaders in order to address challenges related to limited resources and power dynamics. These tactics will raise community involvement, encourage a sense of ownership, and guarantee that community opinions are respected. By putting these strategies into practise, LADA can get around obstacles, encourage genuine community involvement, and achieve sustainable development in Langkawi. Limited resources and capacity present further challenges. Community participation requires resources and capacity-building initiatives, but LADA's ability to provide adequate support and engagement opportunities may be hindered by limited resources. Moreover, power dynamics and decision-making authority can impact community participation. Community members may feel their influence is limited, which can discourage active engagement. LADA must work to create a sense of ownership and ensure that community input is valued and incorporated into decisionmaking processes. Page 23
OUTCOME ANALYSIS: MANAGEMENT: COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION TMGT 4313 LANGKAWI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY IMPACTS OF PROGRAM The participation of the community in the development of Langkawi has been greatly influenced by the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA). LADA actively involves local communities in determining the development agenda because it recognizes the value of including them in decision-making processes. LADA collects community input and feedback through meetings, workshops, and consultations to make sure that decisions and actions are taken with the involvement of those who would be most directly impacted. By encouraging their participation in community-based tourism, cultural preservation, and business initiatives, Langkawi's development process. LADA also collect community input and feedback through meetings, workshops, and consultations to make sure that decisions and actions are taken with the involvement of those who would be most directly impacted. By encouraging their participation in community-based tourism, cultural preservation, and business initiatives, LADA also strengthens local communities. The authority gives communities the tools, training, and venues for collaboration they need to actively promote their cultural heritage, protect the environment, and carry out economic activity. Overall, LADA's initiatives have helped local communities build a sense of ownership, empowerment, and shared responsibility, making community involvement an essential component of Langkawi's development process. Page 24

Higher awareness should be achieved through concentrated advertising campaigns, collaborations with travel operators, and a stronger internet presence. LADA management department should first strengthen the management and intervention in the environment to ensure the exploitable scenic spots without damaging the principle of sustainable development. Putting in place efficient visitor management strategies, such as limiting tour group sizes, encouraging ethical conduct, and educating tourists about conservation activities. IMPACTS While marketing brings more tourists to KILIM Forest Geopark through various means, it also helps LADA to establish a good image and popularity. TMGT 4313 Page 36 OUTCOME ANALYSIS: ACHIEVEMENT COMPONENT FRANGIPANI RESORT & SPA What makes Frangipani achieve this success? This license to brag is supported by the fact that it claims to be Malaysia's greenest resort. The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa has worked hard to establish an eco-enclave that goes above and beyond asking visitors to reuse towels and bedding and placing recycling bins on its property in order to recognize its contributions to sustainable tourism. Unlike many other resorts or hotel, The Frangipani Resort has been adopting sustainable green practices and continuously evaluating, managing, and improving their continuing relationship with the environment for many years. They work tirelessly to maintain the geological resources in their current condition for many decades to come. They have made the decision to replace plastic straws with paper straws. They never biodegrade and require hundreds of years to decompose, much like other polymers. One such single-use item that harms marine life, including turtles, and pollutes the oceans is the plastic straw. They use environmentally friendly, FDAapproved straws. Wherever practical, they have also integrated the usage of solar energy. A small change to make a small change is the Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa's motto. They succeeded in influencing their immediate environment by first being the change they wanted to see in the world, even though they can't change it overnight. T M G T 4 3 1 3 | S U L A M - I I U M

TMGT 4313 Page 39 OUTCOME ANALYSIS: F R A N G I P A N I R E S O R T & S P A ISSUES AND CHALLENGES The initial expenses required is one of the primary obstacles faced by Frangipani Hotel in implementing green practises. Upgrading infrastructure, deploying energyefficient technology, and implementing environmentally friendly systems all have large upfront expenditures. The hotel management may be concerned about the return on investment (ROI) and the length of time required to repay the original costs. This cost consideration could prevent the implementation of green practises, particularly in smaller hotels with limited resources. Another key difficulty is a lack of understanding and education about the relevance and advantages of sustainable practises among hotel personnel, management, and customers. It is difficult to induce behavioural changes and generate support for eco-friendly activities without sufficient information and awareness. To address this issue and establish a culture of sustainability inside the hotel, effective training programmes and awareness campaigns are required. Modifying existing infrastructure to add energy-efficient technology and ecological features might be difficult for older hotels like Frangipani. Certain green practises may be limited by the structural restrictions and design constraints of older structures. Renovation and retrofitting projects need meticulous planning, coordination, and financial commitments, making it a difficult process for hotel management. Complying with regulatory regulations and gaining green certifications may be time-consuming and complicated processes. The Frangipani Hotel must adhere to environmental legislation, waste management practises, and energy efficiency requirements. Obtaining green certifications or Green Globe may need much labour, documentation, and financial commitment.
