Message from
the Director

Russ Menard

Congratulations, everyone! We have wrapped up another unconventional year! The COVID-19
global pandemic continued to affect our work together, and although it created many challenges to
overcome, it definitely did not dampen our Leopard spirit! Thanks to the staff and students’ diligent
attention to our health and safety protocols, we have spent more than 80% of our school days on
campus and, as of this writing, we have had ZERO cases of on-campus transmission of COVID-19.
All in all, it was another great year for AISL. Our students stretched their minds and developed their
skills across the curriculum. The PYP Exhibition, MYP Personal Project, and DP Extended Essays
provided culminating activities where students could demonstrate what they have learned over the
years. Under the guidance of our highly-trained and qualified faculty, our students constructed new
knowledge and, more importantly, developed critical skills in research, analysis, self-discipline, ethical
behavior, and communication that transcend individual classes and will provide a foundation for
success for years to come. Even the days we spent in distance learning mode have created valuable
learning opportunities. As our society evolves in the wake of the pandemic, I am confident that we
will be grateful for having had this opportunity to hone our abilities to communicate, connect, and
collaborate across great distances.
I sincerely hope that you have enjoyed your whole year at AISL. If you are leaving us, I wish you the
very best of luck on your next adventure. If you are staying, I hope that you will continue to thrive
on our gorgeous campus in this beautiful country! Either way, always remember that once a Leopard,
always a Leopard!
This yearbook message is a bittersweet one for me. I am excited that we had another great year, but
I am sad that this will be my last such message here. After eight years at AISL, my family and I are also
moving on to another adventure. I am grateful for all the support this community has offered to us. I
know that the Leopard spirit will always shine in our hearts. Farewell!

Message from
the Primary Principal

Darlene Huson

As another year draws to a close, I am so proud of what our students have
accomplished this year despite the multiple starts and stops to the 2020-2021
academic year. With a beautiful new Primary campus, our students were given
opportunities to inquire deeply, think critically, and explore creatively in spaces that
were designed to support that. As learners, our students have questioned, reflected, and
cared for one another every day. These are the attributes we aim to bring out of each
and every child. We want to nurture their love of learning, support their big ideas, and
spark their curiosity to explore the world around them.
As Graham Locke said, “Nothing is worse than when curiosity stops”, and it is our role as
teachers and parents to keep that passion for learning alive for as long as we are able.
Whether you are a family who will be returning to AISL next year or a family moving
on to a new destination, know that it has been a pleasure working together this year. I
hope this yearbook will be a wonderful memory for you and your child.
Sincerely,
Darlene Huson
