MESSAGE BY THE PATRON

1. The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has been unprecedented and has adversely affected almost all walks of life. Education
being no exception, there has been tremendous pressure on students globally to pursue their needs online, while teachers and
trainers too have had to go online to meet their students’ requirements. Undeterred by this development, it has been heartening
to see NCS Kochi striving to safeguard the academic interests of its students through innovative efforts. While adaptability is the
need of the hour, the ongoing pandemic has also re-emphasised the need for continuity in learning, which is not merely confined to
class room activities.

2. On this front, I am greatly pleased to note the outstanding performance of the students of NCS, Kochi in both academic
and other co-curricular activities, which is a true reflection of the school’s commitment, ability to think out of the box and implement
innovative ideas. On this occasion, I wish to compliment the teaching and non-teaching staff, who have performed in an extraordinary
manner under the captaincy of the Principal in fulfilling the learning objectives despite an unfavourable environment. The school’s
steady progress in building up infrastructure with support by the School Management Committee has been equally commendable.
The New Education Policy (NEP), which aims at universalisation of education from pre-school to secondary level is set to be rolled
out in 2022. I am sure the school would be adequately prepared to implement the provisions of the NEP and be among the first few
schools to implement it in Kerala.

3. Aptly named ‘Beacon’, the journal, serves as a guiding light in harnessing the talents of young minds. On this occasion,
I extend my best wishes to all the members of the editorial team for their tireless service in providing learning opportunities for
students and thereby supporting their growth and development as enlightened citizens of India.

4. I am certain that NCS, Kochi will continue to excel in all fields and stand out as one of the finest educational institutions in
the country and achieve greater glory in the days to come.

MESSAGE BY THE CHAIRMAN

The year that has gone by could be considered as an uneventful year of the century as the world is yet to recover from Covid 19.
While the year 2021 has brought a ray of hope to combat this dreadful pandemic, it is the resilience and limitless adaptive capacity
of mankind that have given an edge to tide over this troublesome period.
When the classrooms became empty and the students were confined to their homes, the unflinching determination displayed by
the school faculty in teaching our young boys and girls to win over such challenges by resorting to the online medium deserves
appreciation. I therefore would like to take this opportunity to compliment the Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff for effectively
delivering the much-desired learning experiences to the children by resorting to a completely untraditional methodology of teaching
towards kindling their minds with creative thoughts. The innovative measures instituted by the school such as online assemblies,
intra and inter school competitions, regular interfaces with students and parents etc have ensured emotional well-being of the
students during this turbulent period. I am certain that the willingness and positivity shown by all stake holders of NCS, Kochi by
treading beyond uncharted territories have rendered the school to be one of the finest learning organisations in the country.
I am also privy to the commendable initiatives taken by the school in offering expansive opportunities to the students and assist
them to delve deeper to discover their hidden potentials. The consistent performance of the students in the past few years in the
AISSCE and AISSE examinations bear testimony to the team efforts of NCS Kochi. The accomplishments in the academic and
co- scholastic arena clearly indicates that the School has facilitated the nurturing of the students to bloom as well-balanced and
poised individuals with a firm belief that fortune favours those who work hard and persevere. The incredible performance in Board
exams and academic excellence achieved by our students in classes VI, VII, IX and XI is a true reflection of the commitment and
zeal displayed by both the staff and students.
It is indeed reassuring to observe the exponential growth in infrastructure as well. Although there were compelling restrictions in
the conduct of outdoor activities, yet the Sports department has performed way beyond its scope to enliven the team spirit of the
students and ensured that their physical and emotional well being were not compromised.
As the name suggests, the annual school magazine ‘Beacon 2021’ continues to be the true lodestar and provides opportunities
to young minds to explore their creative and artistic impulses. These pages that you flip are not merely an expression of youthful
creativity. Instead, they mirror the thoughts and ideas of future citizens who would lead this nation to a brighter tomorrow. I express
my sincere appreciation to the Editorial Team for their sterling efforts in painting the activities of the school through a wider canvas
and showcasing them with colourful brushstrokes packed with creativity and elan.

I wish the Principal, Staff and Students of NCS, Kochi all the very best in pursuing their mandate to achieve academic excellence
while grooming young students to become responsible citizens of our nation.

Jai Hind!

MESSAGE BY THE VICE CHAIRMAN

1.As the technology is growing in leaps and bounds, knowledge, skill and attitude have gained significant prominence. Keeping
pace with this emerging trend, our educational system too has gradually metamorphosed over the years so as to make learning
usher a permanent change in the behaviour. Fully adopting to this objective based approach, NCS Kochi always remained at the
vanguard in practising the tenets of teaching learning process in its entirety.
2.Even though Covid-19 posed significant challenges in implementing the academic and non academic initiatives, the school’s
inexorable efforts in implementing innovative and unprecedented learning methodologies led to the intemerate performance of
students in both academics and outdoor activities during the previous academic year. It is heartening to note that the novel techniques
utilised during online mode has made the learning as effective as classroom teaching. In fact, the outstanding performance of our
NCS students has been a litmus test portraying the highest standard achieved by the School. Undeniably, this feat has been possible
only due to the highest degree of commitment, diligence and devotion displayed by the Principal, teachers and the supporting staff
which put the school onto an enviously acclivitous path.
3.Besides motivating students to excel in all fronts, the school has also made significant headway in bringing up necessary
infrastructure to set up an effective learning ambience. NEP 2020 guidelines have also been kept at the milieu and efforts are in
hand to carve out the action plan towards its implementation. Having being privileged to organise Faculty Development Programmes
centrally by NCS, Kochi for teaching and non-teaching staff across all Navy Children Schools, the school’s yeoman service is
indeed praise worthy.
3. Wishing the Principal, teachers and staff of the school God speed in the years to come I also take this opportunity to specially
compliment the editorial board for bringing out this magazine with meaningful contents presented in the most attractive manner while
giving ample opportunity for young students to display their creative abilities. Assuring the fullest cooperation from the management,
let me once again convey my best wishes to all stake holders and students of NCS, Kochi.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” – Plutarch

1.NCS Kochi endeavours to nurture a generation of lifelong learners who are capable of deeper engagement with their surroundings. The school

aims to equip the students with the skills that are required to adapt to the changing environs, but still remain true to the core values and traditions

that have been instilled in them. The world, in fact needs a generation who can work in a globally collaborative way by acknowledging the

interconnectedness of our existence.

2.The school is oriented to the total formation of a child and to the adaptation of various methods suited to the dynamics of the changing world in

order to achieve common goals and objectives. It is further characterized by sharing vision, responsibility and above all love and faith in the goal

in order to achieve it.

3.The educators of NCS, Kochi have long attempted to facilitate the process of converting the learners in to contributing members of society

by instilling in them resilience and adaptability through a multitude of activities even while retaining their focus on the core concept of curriculum

dissemination.

volumes about the commitment of the NCS fraternity and the competency of the students.

5.NCS(K) is always in the quest of novelty and has always given priority to meeting the needs of the individual child. COVID-19 has been

instrumental in giving the strongest impetus to widening the doors of possibilities in digitalization. Despite the many hurdles and initial glitches, the

school rose up to meet the challenges of the time and has been tirelessly striving to cater to the intellectual, emotional and psychological needs

of the students. This has ensured that, in such a surrounding where works and efforts are valued, the child’s self-esteem is heightened and his

intrinsic self-motivation is maintained.

6.The reputation, the school has acquired and established over these years is due to the dedication and selfless commitment of our erudite

scholars, supporting staff, loving students and loyal parents. I appreciate the staunchness and devotedness of each member who stand steadfast

with me to overcome this crucial status quo and have made the teaching - learning process effective and worthwhile via the virtual platform.

7.I feel delighted and overwhelmed to witness the e-version of “BEACON” which is exclusively meant for bringing out the ingenious and inventive

aptitudes of our children. This year is of course challenging, and BEACON lights upon this challenging darkness and illuminates the glimpses of

hope. I extend my wishes to all the readers with the firm belief that each word you skim through its leaves will be imprinted in your minds.

8.The cycle of time brings us back to the place and span where we begin anew each year, again and again with new vim, vigour and validation.

Let us hope for a blissful beginning;

“The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for.And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance

but live right in it, under its roof.”– Barbara Kingsolver

EXORDIUM
Education as one of the most progressive endeavours of man keeps
metamorphosing to suit the demands of the times. 21st century
education is expected to respond to the economical, technological,
and societal shifts that are happening at an ever-increasing pace.
It’s an education that equips the student to succeed in a world where
more than half of the jobs they’ll have over their careers don’t even
exist yet. Educational institutions are responsible for the systematic
transmission of knowledge, skills and cultural values within a formally
organized structure.
NCS community aims to keep alive the child’s ingrained sense of
wonder and arouse their inquisitiveness to discover the mystery of
the world we live in. Every opportunity exists for one who intends to
grub up what lies within. NCS, Kochi is fondly anticipating uniqueness
and persistently opens boundless opportunities to our children. This
school year witnessed commendable and laudable accomplishments
in both scholastic and co-scholastic areas.

ACCOLADES GALORE
NCS, Kochi is always in quest of uniqueness which finds room in
the galore of rich scholastic and co-scholastic activities. We leave
no stone unturned to offer multitudes of opportunities to our children;
it is for them to make the most of it. It is our endeavour to infuse
the young eager minds which flock to the institution with knowledge,
by providing them access to high quality education and learning
experiences. The best way to predict the future is to create it. For the
actualisation of the pedagogical objectives envisioned by the school,
the staunchness and endeavors decreed by the adroit scholars are
strenuous to expound.
The gems of NCS (K) have again proven that their assiduous and
