CLASS 6M
6M have left a fantastic impression this year, returning to life at physical school with great attitudes and BIG personalities. They’ve enjoyed the new approach to year 6 and developed close relationships with their teachers; combining the right mix of hard work and cheekiness! The class community is strong, with a positive spirit making the hours of indoor play fun. They’ve enjoyed heated debates with Ms Chin in Maths and wrapped their heads around algebra for the first time.
They did themselves proud in IPC, entertaining our year 4 guests with their ‘interactive learning stations’. In English, they enjoyed their creation of Mr Ruxton’s alter ego; ‘Princess Ruxton’ and performed hilarious renditions of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, with Lysanders falling in love with Hermias and Bottoms turning into donkeys! Mr Wilson has built on that theme of romance by dissecting hearts and electrifying their brains with circuits! Mr Woodhams has learned a new language called ‘Year Sixish’, with new words like ‘pencilology’ and learning to converse in ‘meme’. They are ready to take the next step into High School and I know the resilience they've shown through the challenge of recent times will serve them well in the future.

WELCOME TO HIGH SCHOOL
CLASS 7K
Mr. Elvis Ho Wee Ming
Ms Sarah Sousa
We grow little by little as time passes. During this tough year, 7K have moved from primary school to secondary school, beginning with uncertainty, ignorance, and curiosity, but finishing the year with a strong will.
I've witnessed their enthusiasm for setting up Christmas activities, the team spirit of the Year 7 quiz competition, and the way friends work together through this year. Throughout this process, 7K have learned from each other how to show empathy and resilience. If we put ourselves out there for others, the world will change as a result of our small efforts. Life does not always go smoothly, but we must go through thick and thin to learn from it.
I saw in all of you, young people with a thirst for learning, a demand for knowledge, and a desire to live life to the fullest. The most important thing I would like to leave you with is to never forget why you started, and your mission can be accomplished.

CLASS 7L

Ms Sarah Sousa
This academic year started out under challenging circumstances with all pupils in virtual school. I am so proud of the participation that 7L showed during this time. From the very beginning, 7L have shown an eagerness to engage in lessons and a great hunger for knowledge. They have been exceptionally open, sociable and welcoming to myself as their new form tutor, and other pupils new to the school. All pupils for 7L have risen to the challenges that this year has thrown at them and overcome the difficulties that they have faced.
I am also very proud of the many pupils from 7L that have taken on leadership roles with their year group and the courage that everyone has shown in putting themselves forward in engaging with whole school activities. 7L have set themselves as shining examples for pupils, not just in their year group, but whole school, of bravery, kindness, and selflessness.
I look forward to seeing where their futures take 7L, as I am certain that they will do great things.

7M comprises a wonderful diversity of characters who share common ground in many positive ways, which are displayed through their civic and moral actions. Furthermore, there is a maturity in this group that allows them to settle any differences with polite discourse. Likewise, we have been able to discuss meaty issues such as gender equality and bullying openly, and determine actionable solutions. Where 7M really come together is when we have a common goal to achieve. They converted the rather drab form room into a veritable Christmas wonderland, bringing each other gifts and celebrating the moment happily. It is an absolute pleasure to be part of the journey with 7M and witness them grow. From the historic struggles of finding classrooms and the battles with locker combinations, to today where they organise assemblies and manage charitable collections. Thank you all of you for making this year so special. Let’s hope that Year 8 will create many more positive memories for you all.

Oh my Amazing 7Y. It is a pleasure to be your teacher. We are having so much fun and you never fail to amaze me. The determination, resilience and maturity you’ve shown in these past terms shows how strong each and every one of you is. I am so impressed with how your mindset has grown within these two terms.
We have students who would most likely become future presidents, to students who enjoy dancing non stop in class. 7Y has been a class of laughter, joy and kindness. A class that is always ready to help someone and also up for an adventure anytime - that includes a bottle flipping competition and a tic tac toe tournament!
You will never get bored in 7Y, as this is a class of great storytellers too : )
Keep rocking 7Y...! And I look forward to seeing how you guys grow and develop in the coming years.

Talkative, joyful, funny, friendly, energetic, caring, thoughtful, supportive - all of these characteristics describe the 8K tutor group.
8K, you have journeyed together across exciting but also challenging times. Throughout the journey you have shown amazing attitudes and showcased a variety of virtues. It has been great to hear your meaningful contributions into class discussions and see the ways you try to resolve situations and find compromises when you differ in opinions. The most apparent of virtues have been your caring attitude towards one another and readiness to help, encourage and support the person in need. Each one of you is a unique person and brings to the group something different. Together, you create this amazing group of young people who are able to open up and share their thoughts, create great memories, bring joy and show compassion to one another.

It has been an absolute privilege to be 8M’s tutor for the year 2022-23. We’ve had a few farewells and also a few wonderful additions to our class. We’ve had to navigate a pandemic but we still managed to have a Christmas tree and a Chinese New Year tree! That being said, I have been greatly encouraged by the care and respect 8M has afforded to their teachers and one another. I've also witnessed the camaraderie develop amongst 8M as they faced adversity together. Despite their age, they display a great level of maturity and thoughtfulness that I can only imagine what’s in store for them in the future. And as I write this, I’m only filled with great hope as I look forward to the rest of the year with them and I wish them the very best as they continue to build wonderful memories and friendships together.

What a privilege it has been to spend the year as Form Tutor of 8Y. They have been a fantastic bunch of individuals, who collaborate and come together as a fantastic team. The most amazing thing that I have observed about this form is their bond and friendships with one another, they really have forged an amazingly strong spirit between them. Their support for one another is a pleasure to behold and they genuinely seem to have great fun together. They are clearly a multi talented bunch and have represented their Form and Houses with distinction and huge amounts of success over the duration of the academic year.

The year is approaching an end, and you will all be moving up to the next academic year. Generally, it has been an incredible year despite the ups and downs we all have been facing, but I would like to let you know that I had a great time being your tutor for a second year.
One of the things that I have observed in you, is that you are growing up and getting mature as a group. You are helping, assisting, and supporting each other; when someone in our group is struggling or needs support, you guys are there to share and participate. Definitely, the empathy and caring are getting developed strongly on you. I am really proud to see that from you.
You have all kept me busy and engaged, and it has been fun and interesting the debates and conversations we have had. I was so proud and impressed by your ideas and reflections on different topics, especially the Empathy Week.
I hope you all feel the same and that you will take everything you have learned and enjoyed this year and build on it as you continue with your next year 10. Thank you, guys, and have a great and deserved holidays

It has been a privilege to physically see you in class this year, transforming from blurry images with brightly coloured backgrounds in virtual school at the start of the academic year, to the smiley, happy people you are now.
You have shaken off the woes of virtual school and embraced the physical world, working together to decorate our door for the Christmas Door Competition and then eating your way through an enormous quantity of pizza and chicken wings at our Christmas Party. I was in shock as I finally got to see everyone's faces! You have participated in sporting, artistic, dramatic and musical events, transforming yourselves into animals from the Jungle Book for this year’s production.
As you continue on your journey through life, never forget to challenge yourself and enjoy learning. Congratulations on a successful year 9L.

Tennis stars, creative dynamos, friendly jungle bears and chess wizards - 9M really has it all! Along with talent I have seen generosity, compassion and enthusiasm among each and every one of you. This academic year saw us move from virtual school back to the real world and you all undertook this challenge with positivity and maturity far beyond your years. Your spirit of cooperation and teamwork during our preparation for the Christmas Door Competition was wonderful to see and although we did not feature in the prizes, you were all winners in my book! Empathy week led us towards some meaningful discussions and revealed to me how insightful and compassionate you all are.
I am excited to watch you all prosper and continue with your personal development. Whether I am your tutor or not in future years, always feel welcome to come by my classroom to chat or just say hello.

9Y, has been extraordinarily respectful, superb, outstanding, wonderful, marvelous, sublime, perfect, awesome, exquisite, cool, spectacular, great, fun, friendly, nice, welcoming and supportive! In 9Y, we respect, guide, and support one another through thick and thin, no matter the situation. 9Y students laughed but worked hard in our first ever newspaper fashion show. They also improvised using their creativity and physics knowledge in making the highest tower in the class. The funniest time in my day is always with my tutees 9Y because with them, I feel loved, warmth and supported.
This year with the theme “Miscellaneous silly”, 9Y edited and used all sorts of filters and stickers on their photos to suit our personalities and express ourselves. The challenges of covid’s SOP and in hybrid learning have only strengthened our bond as we always care and understand each other, through activities and
games - creating invaluable and unforgettable collections of memories. I will miss you all, 9Y.

We will never forget this year in a hurry! Like IGCSEs are not hard enough, you had to deal with virtual school (again), close contacts and endless home quarantines. You have shown absolute resilience and perseverance since the day I said “hello” to you during virtual school. I am so privileged to have witnessed how you coped with challenges and became independent learners throughout the precious time we had.
Since the beginning of the 2021/2022 academic year, I have seen how you guys demonstrate our most cherished character virtues: humility, courage and kindness. You have joined a flashmob dance performance that encouraged others, including myself, to get out of their comfort zones and take on new challenges. You were always there for one another, supporting each other and making our classroom a safe place for all of us. And, finally, you have always made me smile and given me hope for humanity :)
10K you are absolutely adorable, funny and intelligent! Always pushing your limits, constantly aiming higher...
One piece of advice from me to all of you: futures don’t make themselves, you have to create them. Keep dreaming and keep creating the best version of yourselves!

Despite a tumultuous year, 10L have managed to overcome some challenging obstacles as a fun, dynamic and dedicated tutor group. Like everyone, we dealt with the difficult task of starting a school year online. While we had the experience of virtual school of 2020-2021 under our belts, the usual start of the year lacked the vibrancy of a ‘normal’ August. When 10L were eventually able to get together, we accomplished great things, including winning December’s Door Decoration contest! This was an example of what this class can achieve with teamwork and a common purpose.
For me personally, it has been wonderful being the tutor of some students whom I’ve known since they were in Year 7. I’ve enjoyed seeing how they’ve changed, and guiding them through their first year of IGCSE. This has been coupled with getting to know some students whom I’ve never taught before. Every member of 10L has their funny quirk, and getting to know each student individually has been a highly rewarding experience.
As we begin to move beyond the traumatic experience of being in the thick of a global pandemic, I look forward to getting back to some semblance of normality with 10L as my tutor group. It has been a real pleasure being their first port of call during this important part of their high school education.

It has been wonderful watching you all settle back into physical school; looking at you all now I realise you are not the same kids that I welcomed into my classroom last year. You are all a tad bit more chatting, happy, bubbly and comfortable which is wonderful to see. I feel truly blessed to be your form tutor and always looked forward to greeting you all each day. Even though for some reason we are segregated when sitting, we always come together as a team; everyone helps one another with whatever task is thrown at us. My wish for you is that you remain authentic and true to yourself. Fill your heart with laughter and smile often. 10(wh)Y has always got me wondering ‘why’ fate paired a quiet introverted teacher with some of the loudest students in the year group/school. Although I have been missing my peace and quiet, this has certainly been an eye-opening ear-opening experience that has taught me more about appreciating my students for their differences. 10Y is truly a diverse bunch with gamers and card-lovers, bottle-flipping experts and Rubik’s cube fanatics. There are also football players and fans who all know the meaning of ‘SIUUU’! Thankfully, there are also the quiet ones like me to balance out the class. I enjoy our Wordle adventures and it is always nice to have chats with them about football scores and school. They are one of the friendliest bunch of students I have had and they will always have a special place in my heart as my first tutor group. One interesting thing that puzzles me is their fascination with a balloon pump that was left in my classroom by the previous teacher. I always found this to be quite weird, but I guess we are all just a bunch of weirdos in our own way. Enjoy our weird photoshoot that accurately reflects our class.

The class of 2022 is to be commended on making it through a very challenging, unprecedented time in history! It has been my pleasure to mentor my students in 11K, some of which I have taught since Year 9. Their perseverance and determination in IGCSE preparation and the mock exams is to be admired, and, while there were some challenges, everyone managed to pull through successfully. Even through all that, these amazing students were still able to shine through and encourage and support each other. I will miss our tutor sessions and the fun discussions, with each student showcasing their different personalities and ideas to produce interesting discussions.
I want to share a quote from one of the most inspirational characters in history, President Nelson Mandela, “The greatest glory in living is not in ever failing, but in rising everytime we fall.”
So rise above the challenges of the future, and remember that you are the creators of your own destinies. You are all a constant reminder of why I chose this profession, and I have been blessed to be your mentor.

Year 11L, I think you made it! No doubt this has been a very tough and hard course for everyone, full of challenges, anxiety and nerves for the IGCSE exams. In this sense, you have surprised me greatly for your perseverance and your resilience. Not only have you been able to manage your stress and to focus on your studies, but also you have overcome your challenges; I am really impressed! For me it has been a pleasure to be your tutor this year and I am excited about what the future will provide you.
Even though the start of this 2021-2022 course has not been the ideal one, due to VS, lack of social interaction, and many other unexpected problems, you have proved that you have an unsuspected strength and big loads of tolerance. Besides, you have participated in different school events and you have shown your enthusiasm. Finally, I admire your comradeship as you have been supporting each other in difficult times and your sense of humor in a troubling time.

You are a dynamic cohort of students with colorful characters filled with sarcasm, charisma and enthusiasm. It has been an absolute blessing to watch you all grow into very responsible, and conscientious students. The few years that have passed during the pandemic has definitely made you all more resilient to uncertainty, and more grateful to the smallest things in life. It gave new meaning to friendships. Your friendships have become more stronger with more care towards one another. It saddens me to know that this will be the last year as your tutor. However, at the same time I am pleased that you will all be moving on to better and brighter things in life. At the beginning of this academic year, the year 12 cohort met one another for the first time online during our Lasallian camp. Despite all of the challenges, we have been able to fully immerse ourselves in the school by running CCAs, volunteering in many service opportunities with other year groups and charities outside of school as well as contributing to our student representative council. The involvement in these projects by students old and new is a reflection of the supportive and compassionate environment that is 12K.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being 12K’s tutor this year. I find myself continuously reminding them about CAS, EE and various other ongoing school projects which these students take in their stride as they develop into exceptional IB learners. It is this opportunity that I have, to be writing about them for our yearbook, that I can pause and reflect at just how proud I am of each and every one of them. The usual challenges of our first year as IB students have been intensified by the continuation of a global pandemic; regardless of all of this the students of 12K have risen to these challenges with an aura of hope and aspiration whilst always supporting one another.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to be the tutor of 12L this year. In what has been another challenging year for our students, particularly those in Year 12 who have started the IB, the students of 12L have risen way beyond expectations in terms of the enthusiasm and continuous energy they bring to the school. Whether it be participating in the Lasallian ‘camp’ at the very start of the term, organising each others’ birthday parties, getting together for group sports activities, or playing fun games in the IB lounge, I have never failed to be impressed by our students’ positivity, and their commitment to making these two years of the IB as memorable as possible for each other.
As we move forward into Yr 13, I’m confident that this group of mature young adults will continue to show commitment, compassion and caring, whether that’s towards themselves, each other and their classmates, or the wider school and local community through their CAS program. For, in the words of Cicero, ‘Non nobis solum’

It's been an incredible year, filled with ups and downs and a lot of pressure falling onto these young adult’s shoulders. They have weathered the storm of a world pandemic, facing it head on during their IGCSEs, beginning Y12 online and even some part of Y13. Despite all of this, they have battled through and, I think, are coming out the other end as even better people. They have shown huge amounts of resilience and have supported each other through thick and thin when times have been tough. Some of my favourite memories are our Sport Fridays, seeing them participate in CCAs again and our Y13 Christmas Secret Santa celebration! I think these stand out to many of them as fond memories also.
I am extremely confident that if they have “survived” these past two years that they will go on to thrive in any new environment next year as university students or other. I wish them all the best and all the success in the world! Don’t be a stranger to SJIIM - come back and visit soon.

This year we’ve creatively joined together as a school to design, edit and draw large murals around campus. Our initial inspiration was based on generating a visual representation of our 3 core values: Faith, Service and Community. After input from our High School artists and elementary students, and a few finishing touches from our resident artist, Ms Karen Windley, we presented our final sketches for the Art Month Murals. Students and other members of our school community participated in this activity throughout the year. It brought art to life at St Joseph's and the children had a wonderful time being a part of this delightful project.
In the Elementary School, our class based artwork is woven into studies through our exciting IPC topics. Children have the opportunity to design, create and present their ideas based on the particular topic they are exploring. That may range from ancient cave designs to block printing or even making 3D moving moon models depending on the theme they are tackling.
