PRÉCIEUX COLLECTIONS
SILVER BEDECKED WITH PRECIOUS ORNAMENTS

While Jean Puiforcat’s creations featured little more than discreet chasing motifs,
threads and ribbed edges to frame subtle games of light and shade on the metal,
the pieces he designed never appeared austere. Indeed, the silversmith-cum-designer
readily juxtaposed sterling silver with an array of other precious materials, inventing
a style at the crossroads of absolute purity and extreme sophistication.

True to this tradition of blending materials, the House of Puiforcat immortalizes
its Master silversmith’s spirit through re-editions of the « Cannes » collection –
flatware and table accessories designed by the creator in 1928 – as well as
a new release of the « Élysée » model, the magnificent flatware that reigns on
the table of the French presidential palace.
Upon request, the Maison can embellish these models with onyx, jade, lapis
lazuli or red jasper cabochons. They will add a delicate and understated touch
of color to the finely chiseled handles and fretwork motifs of the classic
cutlery, or the strict silhouette and fluted rings of the Art Deco pieces.
Sober and rigorous in form, Puiforcat silverwork never hesitates to don the
choicest finery.

NORMANDIE
GRACING THE TABLE OF A FAMOUS OCEAN LINER

This flatware, designed by Jean Puiforcat in 1934, once graced the dinner table
for first-class passengers aboard the Normandie, the ocean liner that linked New York
to Le Havre. Elegant travelers admired this model, its timeless lines reflecting the full
modernity of the silversmith’s designs: disciplined architecture, little ornamentation
and a disc at the end of the handle engraved with the initials of the Compagnie
générale transatlantique.
Sober-minded Jean Puiforcat viewed the arts of the table as the antithesis
of decorative excess.
A symbol of the style of 1930s France, this flatware has been incorporated into
the collection of the French Musée des Arts décoratifs. Renamed in homage
to the famous steamer, it remains one of the jewels in the Maison’s catalogue.

Today, its refined silhouette is inspiring a full line of table accessories. Ten silver-plated
metal pieces ensure that the right utensil is available for each and every moment of the
meal: a sober vase and candlesticks for guests’ visual pleasure, a bread basket to hold
a crispy baguette or sophisticated breads, along with an elegantly undulating butter
dish, a mustard pot for meat lovers, salt and pepper dispensers to bring out flavor,
and much more.
Each piece is adorned with the same disc motif that so proudly bore the initials
of the Compagnie générale transatlantique on the original cutlery. Thereby, every item
in the collection may be engraved with initials or a coat of arms and personalize one’s
table like the ones of the famous ocean liner.
