I cannot believe that we have completed an-
other year, albeit a virtual one with all our
pupils, teachers and a whole host of virtual
experiences. This year has been about adapt-
ing to change. We have learnt to be more re-
silient, independent and appreciative .
2020-21 marks a very unique period in histo-
ry. A period where the world has been going
through a global pandemic and our school
community remained steadfast in their
quest for academic excellence even through
our virtual school learning. There have been
many opportunities to celebrate our pupils
achievements, through the various events,

When I take time to reflect on this year and
our achievements, starting with our BEST
exam results in the history of the school. I
would like to thank our inspiring and ded-
icated staff, for their enthusiasm through
what has been very difficult circumstances
and for providing their expertise, help and
consistently high-quality teaching through-
out this unique academic year. I would like
to thank our pupils for embracing all the
virtual opportunities that have been made
available with such motivation and open
minds and finally, I would like to thank our
parents for their unstinting help and sup-
port they have provided the school and their
own children during this exceptional virtual
school year.
I wish you all a wonderful summer and I
hope you enjoy this walkthrough of our vir-

Mr Raymond Garnett
BEd, QTS
Head of Prep
The academic year 2020-21 will certainly
go down in history as being very unique.
Virtual education has certainly had its
challenges, however the resolve from
the school, pupils, and families has been
a truly amazing, always ensuring that
the learning and wellbeing of the pupils
has been a priority. This has resulted in a
very successful year during these trying
times.
A complete year of virtual schooling has
brought about disruption to classical
teaching models. The school implement-
ed various additional online toolkits for
teachers to utilise, ensuring JPGS main-
tains our high standards of delivering
and leading education in Saudi Arabia.
Pupil adaptability to an innovative vir-
tual learning environment was astound-
ing, as young children naturally learn
better from being in a group learning
physically together.
The maturity in our pupils has been
phenomenal. The support received from
parents certainly with our younger pu-
pils has been highly appreciated by
guiding children through lesson tasks.
Some of the older pupils had the confi-
dence to work independently through-
out the day.
As is evident in this year’s Jeddonian
our pupils have had a remarkable and
memorable year. The learning experi-
ences have been vast, over a broad range
of subjects with many wonderful events
and lessons to celebrate. We are certain
that you will take pride in reflecting on
all the wonderful contributions to fol-
low.

BA, PGCE, QTS
Assistant Head of Prep
What a year to begin my new role as
Assistant Head of Prep at Jeddah Prep
and Grammar School. It has been such a
pleasure to support teachers, parents and
pupils this year. I certainly have missed
seeing our school community and sharing
our learning but I have been incredibly
pleased to see so many positives from this
unusual year. I would like to share some
of these with you.
As Assistant Head of Prep, I have had the
opportunity to drop in to observe many
of our online classes across the different
year groups. I have seen strong relation-
ships built between teachers and pupils
despite only meeting through a computer
screen. I have been delighted to see many
different mediums being used: Kahoot!,
Pear Deck and Padlet are just some of the
many ways our pupils have interacted
during lessons. From our youngest pu-
pils in Nursery knowing how to mute
and unmute and our oldest pupils in Year
6 solving technical issues for their teach-
ers, every pupil has improved their skills
in online learning and you should be ex-
tremely proud!
As we look on to next year, we hope we
can be together as a school once again. We
long to have our pupils back with us and
to help them adjust back to school life. I
am sure we have all learned to appreciate
the benefits of being in school, being able
to learn face to face and to see our friends.
We look forward to having the Jeddah
Prep community back where it belongs.

Mrs Nargas Gulzar
BA, QTS
EYFS Coordinator
I never expected to start the post of Early
Years Coordinator in this way, but here
we are at the end of an incredible year
and what a year this has been! We have
all been through a rollercoaster of events
completely beyond anything we could
have predicted, imagined or have had
any control over. Initially, I was incred-
ibly anxious, and worried about the im-
mediate impact of us teaching remotely
would have, especially, on our youngest
learners.
With the best will in the world, they
have found it a real challenge to watch
and learn via a screen. This has meant
more hands-on parental support to com-
plete tasks. Some of the parents had
never used Zoom and Firefly before and
had to learn through trial and error how
to support and teach our children and,
keep them happy and entertained.
However, no matter the challenges of
teaching 3-5-year olds in a remote set-
ting, WE DID IT!! We have completed
the year, and ALL the children in the
EYFS have made amazing progress!
It has been wonderful to see how en-
gaged and happy the children have been
throughout their remote learning jour-
ney. There were some very inventive
ideas that showed that the children were
using what they had at home to pursue
their fascinations and interests.
While this crisis is awful, I’ve person-
ally never felt so grateful for my team
and parents for their tireless efforts to
find a way through this. On behalf of
the EYFS team, I would like to whole-
heartedly thank the parents for all their
support and hard work through this un-
precedented time. We would never have
reached this far without you!!
I hope you have a wonderful summer
holiday and look forward to meeting
with you in person soon!

This year, as most of us will appreci-
ate has been challenging for all pupils,
parents and teachers. I am proud of all
our pupils in Year’s 3 and 4 as they have
worked tremendously hard throughout
this year. I have been able to observe
pupils who were in Year 3 last year and
they have developed and matured this
year whilst continuing their learning
journey in Year 4. Well done to you all
of you in your achievements and mile-
stones that you may have reached dur-
ing this difficult year.
The internet and technology have both
been key factors this year for all of us
and we have learnt that if used correctly
can be powerful tools to shape the way
we go about our daily lives. We have
been able to stay in touch, reach out to
one another and complete some fun Ka-
hoot quizzes whilst enhancing our I.C.T
skills during our online virtual school-
ing environment.
I would like to take this opportunity to
thank all parents who have supported
their child throughout these difficult
times and who may have had to juggle in
between computer screens and lessons.
Together, we have been able to ensure
the best possible learning experience for
your child.
I wish you all a well-deserved rest and
fantastic Summer holiday with your
families. Please stay safe and continue
to follow the Government guidelines to
enable us all to hopefully return to JPGS
in September 2021.

This Year has been like no other for Abdulhaadi Essa Abdul
Class 3A. As a School we have had to Arfan Karim
resort to a virtual classroom via Zoom.
All pupils have had to adapt their way
of learning and learning styles.
As Teachers we also have had to think
of various different ways to deliver en-
gaging lessons for our pupils. Howev-
er, class 3A pupils this year showed re-
silience, patience and were all eager to Fatima Soorty Hayat Abdi Jules Gamali Julie Azzam
learn thus adapted their learning styles
and soon got used to the virtual envi-
ronment.
Pupils in 3A have produced excellent
pieces of work. Pupils were also lucky
enough to visit School for a themed Vi-
king Day and had lots of fun taking part
in all the activities that had been set up
for them. They have been a pleasure to
teach albeit virtually. Luqman Majed Al Malak Khawlie Muhammad

Abdulelah Alma Hashish It’s time to say goodbye to another in-
Zahran credibly strange virtual school year
that seems to have passed in the blink
of an eye. It wasn’t long ago when we
first met on Zoom. I have vivid mem-
ories of your bright and eager faces,
beaming with excitement at the pros-
pect of a new school year; new friends;
new books and a new teacher.
Faisal Wishah Faris ALSahsah Humaira Khulud Yimam Despite the challenges of a global pan-
demic, we managed to accomplish a

lot. We had a great year together with
lots of fun learning activities; creat-
ing our own myths; planting seeds
and seeing them grow; making teddy
passports; having fun with shapes and
numbers; making sculptures and cele-
brating diversity through Art. Meeting
you physically for the first time on the
Viking Day was the most memorable

fully strange and challenging journey.

Academically, 3C have developed their

This year has been a prodigious year
Ahmet Tarik Amnah Ali for us all. Through all the challenges,
Senol we have worked together to persevere
in order to meet our targets. English
lessons helped to develop pupil’s im-
aginative skills and encouraged them
to read and retell stories in their own

Pupils developed their cognitive skills
whilst working on word problems and
number sequences, in Mathematics.
Asiya Elias Kurdi Elsy Hamdan Hafsa Sajaa They also worked on their researching
Karimuddin Malik skills as a result presented and con-
structed outstanding models of differ-
ent animal habitats.
Geography lessons gave pupils a fla-
vour of the world we live in and gave
them an opportunity to compare the
physical environment to the human
world. Pupils enjoyed exploring the
Hala Kenawi Hala Roshdy Hamza Ibrahim lifestyle of the Maya civilisation and
Mohammad Ahmed extended their knowledge of the Ro-

writing their own stories, poems, cre-
ating a non-chronological report and
a play script! I love to share my pas-

discussing stories, reading about other

many practical elements to the learn-

This school year will definitely be one to
remember for the pupils in Years 5 and
6. I can honestly say that they have kept
in high spirits, embraced Virtual school
with both hands and been absolutely
fantastic throughout. Their commitment
to their learning has reflected within
their progress and I am extremely proud
of the independent learners they have
become. This is a skill that we would
expect from much older pupils so this is
something which will see them well as
they make their way towards Grammar
school.
Throughout this school year both pupils
and teachers have had to learn how to
use multiple online forums for perform-
ing their lessons. As a teacher, I have
also had to do this so understand the
challenges. The pupils have persevered
when connection has been bad and have
been resilient in finding alternative ways
to access their lessons. I congratulate
them on their ability to adapt when diffi-
culties have presented themselves.
In addition to this, I would like to say a
final thank you to adults and older sib-
lings at home who have supported the
Year 5 and 6 pupils throughout this year.
Without your support, the success of the
year would not have been possible. I vir-
tual handshake to you all.
This is a farewell to our Year 6 pupils
who are making their way over to Gram-
mar school and a see you next year for
the pupils heading into their final year

and relaxing holiday and stay safe.

Mr De Wet Hugo

Despite all the challenges that a year Ali Awais Ata Sayar
of virtual learning brought about for
our class, the 5A pupils still had a
wonderful year and an amazing time.
Even though we stayed home, through
our learning, we travelled to Ancient
Greece, Brazil, Victorian England and
Early Arabia. We also learned about
our solar system and how plants repro-
duce and grow.
Hamza Bokhari Hibba Mirza Karen Halaby Karim El

ent types of recounts and we have
journeyed through a different culture.
Maths lessons were a highlight and
once we all got used to Peardeck and

Mr. Hugo would like to dedicated the
following two quotes to his class:

Last term in year 6, we learnt about Abia Jeddy Aya Bakry
the different countries of the Ameri-

human georgraphy of different coun-
tries, comparing how they are similar
or different. Whilst doing so we learnt
about natural and man-made wonders
that can be found here. The children
then created a travel guide for a coun-
try within the Americas, highlighting
what you can see and do in these places Ayaan Zia Camila Calles Ebrahim Elif Beyza
as well as describing the lanugage and Castelo Shazhad Senol
culture.
We had some outstanding travel vid-

with some wondefuly powerpoint

different places and what they could
see there if they were to visit.

Perseverance
Perseverance, determination and resil-
ience. All words that go hand in hand in
describing the attitudes of all human be-
ings in this unprecedented time we find
ourselves, but more so in explaining how
our Key Stage 3 pupils have remained
on course, engaged and learning. This is
exemplified in their willingness to come
into school for Activity Days, their con-
stant submission of homework and tasks
via our VLE, Firefly and quite simply the
outstanding Attendance to the virtual
lessons so far. These various aspects,
that so often go unnoticed, are to be
commended of our Key Stage 3 pupils.
The previous half term has been jam-
packed with fun-filled themes of the
week such as International Women’s,
Wildlife and Poetry days. Highlights
of the term (and possibly this unprece-
dented academic year) were the Activity
Days where pupils came into school (un-
der strict social distancing Guidelines) to
experience staff supervised activities that
tested and engaged their critical thinking
skills. It was a welcomed change for all
involved, though a glimpse of what we
hope will be a return to normal school.
We hope that all the school community
remain safe and healthy.
