I have been very proud of the resilient
spirit shown by our JPGS Communi-
ty through the virtual schooling. Dur-
ing these most challenging of times the
staff have remained steadfast in their
desire to provide the pupils with the
best possible experience. The pupils
have certainly taken advantages of the
many opportunities offered to them. The
School Council has flourished under the
leadersip of the Head Team and has had
more of a significant role during the vir-
tual schooling. Our representatives have
worked hard to ensure that every voice
has been heard. The safety and wellbe-
ing of our pupils has been a key prior-
ity of the school over the last 2 years.
All of our staff members are trained in
Safeguarding. We were nominated as fi-
nalists for the prestigious International
Schools Award for Safeguarding. This
year we have raised awareness of mental
health and wellbeing through our PSHE
Curriculum and our Wellbeing Ambas-
sadors. They have hosted assemblies for
Safer Internet Day, Healthy Ramadhan
and Cancer Awareness.
As KS4 Coordinator I have been proud
by the progress the pupils have made.
The Year 11 pupils are on track of achiev-
ing some outstanding results. They have
shown great perseverance during these
challenging and uncertain times. Our
Year 10 pupils have made a great start
to their IGCSEs. The tracking reports in-
dicate that attainment and engagement
is very high. In PSHE the Year 10 pupils
have studied modules on Personal Fi-
nance, Enterprise, Careers and Mental
Health. Our Year 11 pupils have com-
pleted modules on Exam Technique,
Post 16 Options and Mental Health. The
highlight of the year has been to see the
pupils in person during Mock Exams
and Activity Days. They have grown a
few inches over the last 12 months.
I would like to finish with wishing the
Year 11 pupils the very best with their
IGCSEs and to say goodbye to those pu-
pils that are leaving us. I wish you every
success in your future endeavours.

BSc (Hons), Msc, PGCE
Head of Sixth Form
The Sixth form have been working hard in and out of les-
sons, with well-being ambassadors helping to plan and
take assemblies in anti-bullying week, and the head team
leading the Remembrance Day assembly. In tutor time the
pupils have been following the VESPA sixth form mind-
set, a package of study skills that cover vision, effort, sys-
tems, practice and attitude. This allows pupils to develop
their study skills and create smart targets to improve the
efficiency of their learning and independent study.
Pupils have also given assemblies with a group of Year
12 boys most recently teaching us the importance of a
positive mindset in success. Year 12 and 13 pupils have
also got involved in the PALS programme mentoring and
teaching in a variety of subjects, passing on their expertise
to younger pupils and peers and so improving outcomes.
The Sixth Form have also taken part in weekly debates and
voted using microsoft forms. Recent questions include
subjects as diverse as; “This house believes that Lord of
the Rings is a better franchise and series of films than Star
Wars” (motion passed), “This House Believes That a Bad
Law Deserves to be Broken” (motion passed), “This House
Believes the Manipulation of Human DNA is an Ethical
Necessity” (motion defeated), and “This House Believes
Individual Apathy is the Greatest Threat to our Climate”
(motion passed). We have held these debates either in
form time or in assembly with some very articulate and
well-reasoned arguments from pupils on both sides.
ALIS tests for Year 12, have now been conducted and re-
sults shared with departments which have allowed more
individualised target grades to be assigned and to give
teachers a better understanding of the learning styles of
the pupils. We will use these to update the target grades in
the forthcoming reports so parents may see a slight change
in the target grade of the pupils.

beck and many more have been enjoyed virtually and we
didn’t stop at novels.
We have also immersed ourselves in the poetry of Car-
ol Ann Duff, Emily Dickinson, Tennyson, Coleridge and
explored topics through poetry such as, war, conflict, na-
ture and place. We have also been keeping ourselves busy
through competitions and we had an extremely interest-
ing book week held virtually, so a lot to celebrate.
This year saw the 1st year of the Poetry Off By Heart com-
petitions and as I write this we are just moving into the
2nd round. The 1st round has already demonstrated some
extraordinary talent and passion for poetry across the
school and I am looking forward to announcing our Poet-
ry Off By Heart overall winner later this year.
Despite being held virtually, our book week celebrations
took a turn for the surreal when it came to participation.

stands out are the motivational quotes he sends us when
we submit a piece of work (my favourite one is “if it’s dif-
ficult it’s already done, if it’s impossible it shall be done”).
We finished the syllabus in February 2021 and have since
spent time going over past papers which has helped re-
inforce concepts, solutions and ideas. At this rate, our
class should have no trouble studying for the forthcoming
mocks.
Moreover, we recently completed the last chapter from
our syllabus and wrote a test. I noticed I didn’t have any
trouble studying for the test because we had been practis-
ing exam questions in class as well. Thanks Mr Hussain.

problems and assumed mean.
I began asking about his inspiration and motive towards
his project, in which he explained how he had spent his
childhood in Jeddah and found himself captivated by the
world of art. Pursuing his captivation, Mr Amreeki com-
menced his artistic journey by painting a variety of archi-

ical and artistic skills. By planning and calculating the dif-
ferent measures of the houses using a range of computer
based designing and graphic apps, he had ensured to only
display some of the main houses of old Jeddah as it’s near-
ly impossible to portray all of the current houses without
having to narrow them down to an extremely small scale.
Moreover, the defined carving on the doors, windows and
walls of the houses needed to be planned bit by bit.
Mathematics and Art are related in a variety of ways.
Mathematics has itself been described as an Art motivated
by beauty. In fact many of the core skills in art and maths
are closely related. Both disciplines require spatial reason-
ing skills and the special ability to identify and recognise
patterns. You only have to look at all the designs and pat-
terns involved with tessellation on many world famous
monuments such as the Taj Mahal.
Artists and mathematicians use geometry in their work-
--including shapes, symmetry, proportion and measure-
ment.
Mr Amreeki then began brainstorming ideas which would
captivate a large audience, and that is where the concept
of his latest project sparked. Deciding to retire from his
job, he ensured to give this project his all. Constructing
every piece of his project, Mr Amreeki had been more and
more consumed by his fascinating talent, so much that he
had spent around 12 years working on this project, with-
out any regrets and with a deep passion towards illustrat-
ing the true art and patience of his ancestors who had orig-
inally built the infamous homes of old Jeddah. One of the
main purposes of Mr Amreeki’s project was to highlight
the beauty of the rich culture in Saudi Arabia, specifically Not only was Mr Amreeki able to construct the houses and

families, such as mothers doing the cleaning, kids playing
with their friends and fathers working day and night. On
top of that, he had been able to manufacture figures of car-
riages, horses and carts. All of these steps and processes
in which Mr Amreeki had to go through on his own, took
numerous hours behind a screen to design and plan, fol-
lowed by more hours of constructing the different pieces
of his project, using a variety of materials and 3D printers.
As I asked for Mr Amreeki’s advice towards the new gen-
eration of Saudi artists, he stated how he wishes for them
to pay more attention towards the fascinating history of
the country and display their appreciation towards it, and
no matter the type of art they are most intrigued towards,
they must work with a deep passion in order to achieve
success in their artwork.

With a new Head of Department and new PE team, we

Meanwhile we have continued to successfully fulfil our
iGCSE (PE) theory lessons. Term 1 was a lively term for
both pupils and PE staff!
During Term two (still virtual) we are reaching further out

Arabic
Learning languages allows the individual to become ac-
quainted with new cultures, and enables pupils to ex-
change experiences and knowledge between themselves.
This enhances cultural awareness, and through culture, a
person is able to build relationships with people in differ-
ent regions of the world, as well as learn to respect differ-
ent values, races and cultures, be able to listen to foreign
films, music and literature in their original languages and
learn about the history of new countries.
When mastering several languages; people will be able to
read newspapers and news easily and order the food they
prefer, and find that the locals are more loving and wel-
coming because of speaking their language and showing
interest and understanding of their history and culture.
Language learning improves pupils’ analytical skills, in
addition to business skills, creativity and problem solving,
promotes opportunities to participate in business, medi-
cine, law, technology, industry and marketing, enhances
listening skills, and through which the person perceives
the interconnectedness between language and human na-
ture.
Let us preserve this great language and complete its pres-
entation to our pupils at the level always expected of us,
in light of these difficult circumstances, we have worked
hard to present it effectively, and thanks to the cooper-
ation and commitment of our pupils, we have together
proven our ability to face current difficulties to achieve
our desired goals

This year, like many students, I was wondering how I
would be able to develop some of my artistic interests
remotely. But, I’m extremely happy to say that not only
was I able to develop my artistic skills, I was able to dis-
cover several unique techniques right from home. During
classes, the clear instructions and interactivity helped me
identify exactly how to go about my tasks. If I ever had
any queries, I could always rest assured that my teach-
er Mrs. Jabeen would alleviate them if I sent an email. I
particularly enjoyed creating the virtual sketchbooks this
year, as it allowed us to not only keep hold of all the work
we’ve done throughout the year, but we can also view the
works of peers!

have enjoyed dressing up for their performances and we
have been uplifted by the large number of videos of pupils
performing with their siblings, the older brothers and sis-

Towards the end of the second term, pupils in Years 3 to
6 were focusing on the recorder and ‘Baby Shark’ proved
the perfect song for pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 to revise the
notes learnt last year and to practise ever-tricky tonguing
techniques as a means of separating fast repeated notes.
Pupils learnt two versions of the song, ‘High Shark’ and
‘Low Shark’, and practised playing these along with the
original videos. Even Harry Potter got involved!

Charity Events at JPGS
The staff members from JPGS teamed up with local mem-
bers of the compound community to raise money for those
in need. On Friday 23 April, 2,410 SAR was raised, and
rd
we distributed 150 food packs to three different labour
camps near Makkah. Staff members, friends, family and
children all came together to assemble food parcels which
contained both hot and cold food.
On Saturday 1st May 2021, we raised 7,365 SAR and dis-
tributed 300 food parcels to labourers residing at Salt Lake
Camp. It was a great experience as everyone came togeth-
er in community spirit to help those in need. Living and
working conditions at these camps were very difficult and
the money raised really made a difference.
The charity events were led by Abdul Aziz Qayum (Teach-
er of Economics) and the following teachers played an in-
tegral role in making this a success: Abdullah Chowdary
(Teacher of English), Abu Bakr (Teacher of Business and
Economics), Ahmed Gull (Teacher of Mathematics), Daryl
Mathews (Head of English), Khalid Raza (Head of Art),
Maqbul Hussain (Head of Mathematics), Mebs Master
(Teacher of IT) and Munsoor Shahzad (Assistant Head
and Head of KS4).
The support from everyone not only made this experi-
ence possible but it has left a lasting impression on us all. I
would like to thank everyone who donated, helped on the
day and to all the friends and families who showed their
support.
