Era la gala inaugural de la aclamada “Pegasus Word Cup”, tenía como atractivo un nuevo duelo entre el tordillo Arrogate y
California Chrome. Hallandale, ese maravilloso pulmón de la ciudad ubicado al norte de Miami, es la ubicación del hipódromo
de Gulstream Park que se erigía como el escenario de la carrera más rica del mundo. En efecto 12 millones de dólares
en juego presagiaban todo un espectáculo que arrastró un masivo público, colmando así sus tribunas y estacionamientos.

En ese contexto, con la balanza inclinada sobre Arrogate en plan de favorito, bajo la Guía de Mike Smith,
desprendiéndose de su antagonista California Chorome, el cual desde los mil metros finales reusó a la lucha, indefenso,
retrocediendo como nunca antes y poniendo fin a su campaña pistera.

La Pegasus Word Cup (nombre inspirado seguramente por el logo del hipódromo) logró desplazar a la mítica
Dubai Word Cup (G1), por solo dos millones de dólares. Aunque desde ya el Sheikh Mohammed redobla esfuerzos para el

El señor Jim Gagliano se convirtió en presidente y director de operaciones del Jockey Club de EEUU
el 1 de enero de 2010, luego de un efectivo desempeño como vicepresidente ejecutivo y director
administrativo de esta institución, fue desde junio de 2005. Fue vicepresidente ejecutivo de las
operaciones de carreras de Maryland de Magna Entertainment Corporation, donde era responsable de
las operaciones diarias del Maryland Jockey Club. También fue presidente, MEC OTB y vicepresidente del
grupo, MEC Northern Group.

En la trayectoria de Jim Gagliano figura su experiencia como gerente general de Greenwood Racing

and Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Jockey Club. We must highlight the extensive work of the U.S.
Jockey Club and Mr Gagliano at the time of the second Pan American Conference in Washington D.C.

Mr Jim Gagliano became President and Chief Operator Officer the U.S. Jockey Club on January 1,
2010, following after serving as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for The Jockey
Club since June 2005.

He previously was Executive Vice President of Magna Entertainment Corporation’s Maryland racing
operations, where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Maryland Jockey Club. He
also served as president, MEC OTB, and group vice president, MEC Northern Group.

Before that, Mr Gagliano served as executive vice president and general manager of Greenwood Racing
Inc. and worked in various roles during a 10-year stint with the New Jersey Sports and Exposition
Authority.

Since October 2010, Mr Gagliano has served as vice chairman representing the Americas for the
International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ Executive Council. In January 2013, he was elected
to the American Horse Council board of trustees, and he was elected vice chairman in June 2015. In
addition, he was elected to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance board of directors in December 2016.

His deep concern for the well-being of the horse racing industry in the United States and internationally
is more than obvious. With a lifetime dedicated to the sport, Mr Gagliano surely has seen both progress
and setback. On this occasion, the U.S. Jockey Club will co-host with the Latin American Racing Channel
a new edition of the Pan American Conference. The event will bring together various authorities from
the world of horse racing, in an effort to bring together experiences and share best practices for the
“Sport of Kings”.
