Durante el último siglo, la creciente universalización de la industria vinculada al caballo de carrera dio origen a una época
de auge de la hípica mundial, donde comenzaron a surgir intereses económicos y sociales que anteriormente carecían de
importancia.

Así, surgió la necesidad dentro de las naciones hípicas Sudamericanas de formar un vínculo más fuerte con los
organismos relacionados con la actividad a nivel internacional y en el año 1958 se creó la Organización Sudamericana de
Fomento del Pura Sangre de Carrera.

Son objetivos fundamentales de la Organización promover el amplio intercambio informativo entre sus Miembros y
con las Organizaciones Internacionales a nivel mundial; promover la armonización de protocolos y reglamentos dentro de
la región, lograr el perfeccionamiento de los Stud Books, especialmente en lo concerniente a la identificación del caballos
de carrera y la documentación que expiden; fomentar el élevage y sus actividades afines o conexas; divulgar la evolución
desarrollada por la actividad hípica del continente poniendo de manifiesto su jerarquía e importancia; contribuir a la solución
de problemas que afecten la evolución y desarrollo del turf y élevage; organizar y participar de Congresos, Conferencias o
Reuniones internacionales; mantener relaciones y participar activamente en las grandes Organizaciones Internacionales; y
preparar informes, estadísticas y trabajos técnicos de interés general.

La OSAF está integrada por los Jockey Clubs, Hipódromos, Instituciones Hípicas, Stud Books, Asociaciones de Criadores
y de Propietarios más importantes de América Latina, contando entre sus países miembros a la Argentina, Brasil, Colombia,
Chile, Ecuador, México, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay y Venezuela.

significant owners in Latin America, counting among its countries members to the Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile,
Ecuador, Mexico, Panama,Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
