ETIQUETTE & BEHAVIOUR ON THE COURSE

SPIRIT OF THE GAME
• Golf is a game that relies on the integrity of the individual to show

consideration for other players and to abide by the rules.
• All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner,

demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times,
• A player who has incurred a penalty should promptly inform his

opponent.
SAFETY
• Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a

position to be hit by a club, ball or any stones, twigs etc. when they
make a stroke or practice swing.
• Players should not play until the players in front are out of range.
CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER PLAYERS
• No player should move or stand close to or directly behind the ball
or the hole when a player is making a stroke.
• On the putting green, players should not stand on another player’s
line of putt, or, when he is making a stroke, cast a shadow over his
line of putt.
• Players should remain on or close to the putting green until other
players in the group have holed out and then immediately leave the
putting green.
• Players should leave bags or carts toward the rear sides of a putting
green – never in front.
LOST BALL
• If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard or is
out of bounds, to save time, they should play a provisional ball.
• Players searching for a ball should signal the group behind to play
through as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily
be found. They should not search for more than 5 minutes. Having
allowed the group to play through, don’t continue to play until the
group has passed and is out of range
SLOW PLAY
• Players should play at a good pace. It is the group’s responsibility to
keep up with the group in front
• If a group loses a clear hole and is delaying the group behind, invite
the group to play through, irrespective of whether the group is a
Comp. or Social group. Recommended play time is 2 1/4 hrs. per
9 holes or 41/2 hrs. per 18 holes.
The following suggestions may assist in reducing slow play:
Each player should walk directly to their own ball at all times and
assess their own shot and club selection and play their shot as soon as
it is their turn.
• Practice swings should be kept to a minimum.
• On reaching the green, study the line of your putt immediately and
when it is your turn to putt, try to putt right out providing it can be
done without interference with another players putting line.
• Mark your card when you reach the next tee.

CARE OF THE COURSE

BUNKERS: Before leaving a bunker players should carefully fill up
and smooth over all holes and footprints made by them or others.
Where rakes are provided, they should be used and then left on the
flat part of the bunker with handle parallel to the fairway.

DIVOTS, BALL MARKS & SHOE DAMAGE: Players should
carefully repair and fill all divot holes made by them and any others
nearby. On the putting green any damage made by ball impact or
shoes should be repaired.

PRACTICING ON THE COURSE: Before practicing players should
report to golf shop. The Practice Green is available for putting and
short chipping. Any other practice is to be performed up or down the
1st / 10th fairway, NOT from the tee blocks and NOT onto the green.
Any DIVOTS are to be sand filled. Practicing is not to interfere with
people playing.
