FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

„Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel‟ said Socrates, the great Greek

philosopher. Learning and sharing your knowledge leads to an enlightened world where there is love,
compassion and respect for every being on the face of the universe.

The students of BVM Global are nurtured in an environment of learning and values and
exposed to the contemporary world at large. The activities in school are aimed at providing a common
platform to all and subsequently instill a competitive spirit. The institution looks at preparing future
leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and socially aware citizens with a humane touch to their acts. The
children are taught to value what they have, aspire to build on their strengths and overcome their
weaknesses.

The spirit of patriotism is instilled in the students and they develop a sense of honour and
gratitude for the men in uniform. The students on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan perform for the
soldiers and tie Rakhi to reiterate their faith in the defence services.

The children celebrate all festivals and special occasions with great fervor and enthusiasm
which brings a feeling of togetherness. Each celebration is marked with dance performances and songs
which gives students an opportunity to showcase their talent and contributes in building their
confidence.

Kalari and Yoga have been incorporated in the regular curriculum to stress on the importance
of a healthy lifestyle and also to promote indigenous sports in addition to the compulsory games like
gymnastics, Volleyball and Table tennis.

The various clubs in BVM Global play a vital role in shaping the field of interest of a child; the
Science and Math club work on the scientific aptitude of a student while the Literary club kindles the
creative aspect of a child‟s thinking. The Karuna Club emphasizes on the virtue of compassion while
the Heritage club promotes the feeling of pride for one‟s culture and tradition.

The students are also exposed to life skills and the Student Exchange Programme is an attempt
in that direction. The children travel to a different city, away from their parents and family which goes
a long way in teaching them to be aware, deal with their emotions and be independent.

The school also lays stress on S.T.E.M. education and has introduced Robotix class and Meta
Cognitive Reflective Laboratory to expose the students to the modern developments in the field of
technology. This effort is aimed at creating future entrepreneurs and professionals.

To conclude, BVM Global @ Perungudi attempts to provide a holistic learning environment to
its students and also to kindle the creativity of the teacher and the taught. The school has a futuristic

approach to education while upholding its traditions and values as the motto of the school says
„INSPIRE, IGNITE, TRANSFORM‟.

ROBOTICS— A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME

Our In-School Robotics programme is a hands-on and fun-driven learning approach. Developed by
academicians and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumnus, our Robotics programme is based on an in-
ternational curriculum focusing on a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
topics that allows children to use their imagination towards generating new ideas for real-world applications
and preparing them for the STEM job market. This is intended to develop 21st century skills in children, such
as problem solving, creative thinking, innovation, logic, analytical thinking, confidence and team-work.

The children learn to code, play with circuit board electronics, sensors, build a robot from scratch, cre-
ate games and animation, learn computer science without computers and so much more.

Just like reading, writing and arithmetic, problem solving and innovative thinking are essential 21st
century life skills our kids need. Research shows that one of the most effective ways for kids to learn problem
solving is through coding & robotics.

Students learn to code using a graphical media programming language, created for education by the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston USA. The ability to code computer programs is an im-
portant part of literacy in today‟s society. When people learn to code in Scratch, they learn important strate-
gies for solving problems, designing projects, and communicating ideas.

Construction with different kits helps them to understand how technology plays an active role in the
students' everyday life. It also helps them to understand simple machines concept in everyday life and the
principles behind them. Animation improves their creativity and accuracy. They also learn about astronomy
through software which enables them to have a clear understanding of celestial objects in the universe.

Students are also trained and encouraged to participate in Robotics competitions within the school and
at various inter-school competitions.

META COGNITIVE REFLECTIVE LEARNING LAB (MCRL)

BVM Global believes that the next generation will be game changers of tomorrow‟s world and hence
students need to be exposed to the 21st century skill sets that can equip them for success now and in the future.
This is the new generation, where these students are themselves aware that, in addition to the fun in creating
ideas, building robots and learning futuristic concepts, the skills they learn are what will assist and advance
their thinking, academic and career prospects.

Keeping this in mind, Meta Cognitive Reflective Learning Lab in-school classes for students of grades
6 and 7 were launched this academic year.

The Meta Cognitive Reflective Learning Lab curriculum is built and created from 3 components woven
into a superior futuristic learning experience.
1. Computational Thinking
2. Big Data
3. Meta Cognition

These classes will develop key competencies in mathematical, scientific and technological skills. This
will also enhance their trouble-shooting and problem solving skills and help them to be creative and active citi-
zens. Parents have invested in the future of their child by admitting them to our BVM Global family and we
trust that our Curriculum & Teaching is demonstrably superior with a touch of difference.

THE RESOURCE DEPARTMENT AT BVM GLOBAL @ PERUNGUDI

„ It is easier to build strong children than repair broken men.‟- Fredrick Douglass
Education is not just imparting bookish knowledge but to develop children into citizens ready to take

on the world, become contributors and give back to the society what it gave them.
In the present environment that we live in, a child‟s life is not as easy or carefree as it was, say, even a

decade back. They have too many distractions, a whole range of gadgets which eat into their concentration.
They have forgotten or rather don't know the simple joy of playing outside.

Add to the fact that today both parents are working, the time a child gets to really spend with his family
is drastically reduced. They have a reduced attention span and things don‟t seem to interest them for more than
a few minutes.

These are just a few of the reasons in addition to heredity that has led to the alarming spurt in children
being diagnosed with various learning disabilities. These learning disabilities may range from mild to
moderate and can be managed successfully if intervened early on and proper support extended. This support
comes in the form of a Resource centre.

Special education is an integral part of the total educational enterprise, not a separate order. Special
education is a means of enlarging the educational capacity of the education system.

Having a Resource Department within the school is essential as it caters to the specific learning needs
of children within the comfort of the school and the child does not lose out on the mainstream set up too. Here
the special educator designs a programme catering to the areas where the student is found lacking or is not in
class level. Each programme is student specific and they have individual classes and get one on one attention.
Most blossom into confident kids once their core issues are addressed and they start tasting success. It is a
slow but steady process and is a journey with ups and down. The parents‟ help and support is an integral part
and their acceptance is of utmost importance.

The aspiration of a special educator is to see every child as a unique composite of abilities, potential
and varied learning abilities. He/she becomes an advocate to voice the feelings of a child with special learning
needs. The joy of a special educator is seeing a smile light up on a kid‟s face when he accomplishes the
simplest of tasks!

„The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don‟t tell you what to see.‟ -

DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELLING

The Department of Counselling in BVM Global @ Perungudi plays an important role in spreading
mental health awareness through various activities.

School-age children have a lot of unsettling deep seated issues that need to be addressed at the right
time in a right way. Theories state that a child‟s personality is formed and crystalized at a tender age of 7. They
need a supportive environment to understand, trust and explore life‟s processes.

Often times, we oversee the possibilities of stressors in a child‟s life. If you shift your perspective
towards that of a child, you would be astonished to see that they live an entirely different world which is
competitive, demanding and overwhelming. A 2 year old toddler might not express his or her fears about the
world verbally, but the challenges they face cannot be denied. Similarly, adults tend to think that school going
children have a „moral responsibility‟ of studying and scoring marks. But what happens behind the screens is
often un- noticed.

Do you remember having a teacher whom you dreaded and had nightmares about? Do you remember a
classmate who picked on you day in and day out that sometimes you went inside the bathroom and vented your
feelings out? Issues have not changed over the years. But today‟s children perceive things in a sensitive way.
This can be attributed to the space, freedom, attention, luxuries and opportunities they receive as kids living in
a nuclear family.

In the Counselling Department, we focus on the mental health of children, and address various issues
such as peer relationships, interpersonal effectiveness, safety and health, anxiety and stress, restlessness and
impulse. Interventions include individual sessions, group sessions, individual class assistance, parent sessions,
parent- child combined sessions, and class sessions. A range of topics are discussed in class sessions which
include stress management, anger management, personality development, time management, goal setting,
interpersonal effectiveness etc.

Empathizing and understanding a child‟s perspective in his or her own frame of reference, can bring a
positive aura for the child. After all, all that they need is an ear that can listen.

FASCINATION

Our world is filled with so many awe gaping facts and things. One word that fittingly describes
anything we are intensely attracted to is the word „Fascination‟. Fascination could be about making the reader
get hooked on to a book, a song that makes people listen to it again and again, being fascinated by the wonders
of the space, trains, plants, people, animals and what not.

We are fascinated by the hundreds of things we find around us but do we actually realise that?
Sometimes in our everyday routine rush we don‟t stop to admire or appreciate that others might find really
fascinating. Take babies for instance, they are fascinated by even a small thing which we would have
considered trash!! The whole world is full of so many unknown things which fascinates these babies and
children and they stop to find out all about it which we adults have sadly stopped doing.
It‟s a fascinating fact to note that even a shy person could be passionately interested about something!! True
they don‟t have to say it out aloud to the world but it opens up their minds to be free thinkers and form
opinions of their own on their likes.

So what‟s stopping us?! Let‟s start getting awed, obsessed, intrigued, enchanted and captivated by the
fascinating place we live in and the things in it. Sit down, relax, think and jot down at least 5 things you are
interested in and check out yourself in front of the mirror and I am sure you have a broad smile on your face.
And oh! by the way, don‟t forget to be fascinated by your smile too!!

People bathing in the river;
Students walking calmly to schools;
Learning and playing as a healthy, positive and disciplined affair;
Turning over to a time of festive occasion,
There we see……
Kids and parents making obeisance to elders,
Invoking their blessings on the first hand;
Sharing „n caring throughout the day,

Mouth-watering delicacies to savour,
And exchanging gifts all around…..
On switching off the Time-machine,
Oh! How I wonder this city is so clamoured?
With all the people huddling with no reason or purpose;
Why are we all stuck back to this Pandemonium?
Come! Let‟s behold the enchanting beauty of our villages,
By enriching the life there;
Enjoy the serenity and escape the brouhaha,
Of this mad world….the so called METROPOLIS;

ANNUAL EVENTS

Annual Sports Day (11th July, 2015)
The 6th Annual Sports Day of BVM Global @ Perungudi was held on 11th July 2015 at Government

Hr.Sec.School, Perungudi. The chief guest for the day was Dr. Nagarajan, Director of Special Olympics for
the Asia Pacific region. The first event was the march past , which was a display of discipline, perseverance
and determination by the students. It was a stupendous sight which gave way to the lighting of the Olympic
torch by our BVM achievers. The event began with a synchronized display of free hand exercises by our
young enthusiasts of Class I. This was followed by the 100m sprint which proved to be a breath taking

a searching and questioning mind, and to inculcate a desire to preserve and conserve the valuable life and
resources of nature around it. This club facilitates students to appreciate the beauty of nature and create
awareness about the different fields of study in science. Motivating students to stay abreast of current
developments in scientific research is also an important aspect of the club‟s initiatives. The Club promotes
scientific temper and a passion towards science, through multifarious activities. These activities kindle not
only their inquiring minds but also inspire them to work for environmental causes by tapping their innate
creative strengths. The Science club also focuses to create awareness about wildlife which does not mean the
big and the bold, but also the small and the ugly, along with the bright and the beautiful flora. Through its
various awareness programmes like talks, video shows, visits to factories and nature spots and Intra as well as
