The Victorian 95: The Pandemic Edition

He stays in his dormitory while I commute to school every day
since I cannot stay in the hostel anymore. We will share
interesting stories about our life when he comes back during
semester breaks and will definitely share every juicy bits of it!As
I am finishing up this essay, I just realized that it is time to fetch
my twin brother back to his dormitory located in Shah Alam.
Well, time to bid farewell to him and enjoy the freedom of
having a queen-sized bed all to myself!

The one person in the world that will give you equal love

devotion and warmth like
your parents is none other than

but your best friend. Many of them around the world have
friends to have fun, to have a shoulder to lay on and also as a
soulmate. The definition of a friend is relative to different
personalities with their different lifestyle, backgrounds ,
orientations, interests, and beliefs. However, a conventional
description of a friend is someone you care about sincerely
and genuinely. Caring about someone goes beyond the
ordinary meaning of the word. He or she must cherish and
adore each other enough to call it love. They say it takes a lot
off struggle, years, even decades to achieve something
precious. We’re willing to wait forever to fullfil our wishes
and needs. Once we’ve obtained it, we feel extraordinary and
great. That’s how I feel when I got a best friend which is
precious and rare like a gem. I often tell her that.

I met Alisha at the age of 13 in highschool. Trust me, she
was the complete opposite of me. If I was water , she was fire.
At the age of 13 , we never really acknowledge each other. I
thought she was the complete adamant, prideful girl since she
was popular among the all of us. Clearly I was wrong because
I judge the book of it’s cover. I didn’t know she was the most
humble person I was ever gonna meet. Alisha is a tall person
with an amazingly hourglass figure. She has this charmingly
beautiful smile which doesn’t miss to melt my heart. Her
laugh is one of the most precious thing to ever witness.
Everytime I feel down, her laugh is enough to alleviate my
mood. Not only she has an gorgeous appearance but also a
virtuous personality. I always wonder how can someone be
so amazing.

I discovered she was my true friend when she never left my
side no matter how difficult or tricky the situation is. Alisha

constantly amazes me in daily
basis. Every single thing she

does left me speechless because she is that goog. She never fail
to inspire me. Furthermore, I always wonder how she has all
the good qualities. She is so kind to everyone even if the
person is someone least of her interest. Not only that, she is
kind and respectful to the people out there. She treats canteen
workers, cleaners, waiters, shopkeeper with full of respect and
kindness. That act of hers always amazes me. I often tell her
that she is one of the rarest and the most precious diamond
that have ever exist. She’s a literal perfection.

Alisha always make sure that I’m the best version of myself.
What really left me speechless was, she gave her 100% and full
effort to be by my side, to motivate me and to support me
whenever I go through a rough time. Me on the other hand,
play a role as a good listener, helps her whenever she faces
hardship. That’s how a good friendship works. Both party
equally supports each other, provides love, comfort and
warmth. We should always be there for each other , no matter
what, even if how hard the situation gets. Always cherish your
best friend. Making them feel good about themselves is one
way to strengthen the bond. Alisha always tells me how
beautiful I am, how bold and strong I am. What really
mesmerizes me is, she would be willing to repeat the same
advices and motivations for a million time just to make me feel
better about myself. She never gets tired of it.

What is friendship without entertainment, laughter and some
sneaky experiences? What makes our friendship elite is the fun
experiences we had. Me and Alisha goes to places together

when we were in highschool.
We literally spend most of the

days together. We went to the same tuition together too. We
always have the best time of out lives together. Being with
Alisha is always similar to going to a world tour because It’s
filled with joy, happiness, laughter. After highschool ended, it
was hard meeting each other regularly. Since the global
pandemic begun, we couldn’t spend time together. Fortunately,
we didn’t let that become and obstacle to the beautiful and elite
friendship of ours. With the use of technology, we call each
other regularly. Mostly it’s late night talks which continues for
hours. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we could literally talk
till dawn. Alisha always tell me, how could we even talk for
long hours even if we talk every single day? We always have
something new to talk about. We would talk about random
topics. For example, we would talk about a dish for an hour.
I’m always the happiest person whenever I am with her. She’s a
godsent.

At one part of a relationship or a friendship, we tend to
have misunderstandings, arguments and also fights. The is
usually due to different opinions and beliefs. Certain people
tend to grow apart after a fight. Some of them tend to hold
grudges and be never able to forgive their respective friend or
partner. Fortunately with Alisha's wise decision making skills
and our way discussion as grown adults has helped us to get
over arguments and misunderstandings. Alisha always believes
that a good discussion could solve the problem. She also
believes that seeking for forgiveness after a wrongdoing is the
best redemption. Which eventually I learn.

Throughout the years we've had our misunderstandings and

arguments. Luckily with the best approach, we tend to discuss

it over as a wise human beings. Both of us are would have a

discussion stating facts wthhaitcAhlcisa
huaseids the fight in a professional
way. I'm proud to say always the better person

here.

In the beginning phase of our friendship, it's me usually who

tend to assume a wrong thing is, which eventually leads to an

argument but my best friend always talks me through it and

makes me understand my mistake. I am also willing to take the

criticism which I believe is the betterment of myself. I strongly

trust that Alisha always wants the best for me ,so does her

intentions. I would do anything for her because I love her

more than myself. To be honest I could never survive or go

one day without her. At times I feel , she's too good for me

because she's the most wonderful diamond. I would advice, in

order to maintain a good friendship, talk through and discuss

one to one when a misunderstandings happens. Always be

responsible for your own mistakes and be okay with seeking

for forgiveness. Based on me, seeking for forgiveness after a

wrongdoing is the best thing to do. It makes you the bigger and

better person. Own up for your mistakes. Always tell your

friend how you feel about them in a respectful manner. Be

open and accept criticism. Alisha has a big heart. She

apologizes sincerely if she did a mistake or hurt me

unintentionally. We always keep ourselves in each other show

and think from each other's perspective so that we could have

the best understand. Understanding is very crucial. Without

understanding it's not possible to maintain a good friendship.

I'm happy and and proud that we have a great understanding

between each other. I cannot express in words my boundless

words for her.

PENGALAMAN SAYA MENJADI

SEORANG PUTERA DI ASRAMA


MALAYSIA

“Dan, cepat kemas barang! Dah nak sampai masa mak
hantar kau pergi asrama!” Suara ibu yang lantang
mengejutkan saya daripada tidur.

“ Tak nakkkkk!”, jawab saya denganperlahan.

Setelah sekian lama, akhirnya saya telah mendaftarkan
diri di Asrama Malaysia Kuala Lumpur yang bertempat
di Jalan Kuantan sebagai pelajar tingkatan satu yang
baharu pada tahun 2015. Asrama ini telah ditubuhkan
oleh Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Perdana Menteri
Malaysia yang ke-6 pada tahun 2010. Matlamat beliau
adalah untuk mengeratkan hubungan antara pelajar
berbilang kaum dan juga untuk memupuk perpaduan
dalam kalangan pelajar. Terdapat empat jenis Asrama
Malaysia di seluruh negara ini, iaitu sebuah di Johor
(khas untuk pelajar perempuan sahaja), sebuah di Kuala
Lumpur (khas untuk pelajarlelaki sahaja), sebuah di
Sarawak dan sebuah lagi di Sabah. Kedua-dua buah
asrama di Sarawak dan Sabah terbukakepada pelajar
perempuan dan lelaki. Begitulah serba sedikit tentang
latar belakang penubuhan Asrama Malaysia dan juga
bermulanya perjalanan kehidupan saya di asrama ini.

Saya agak segan untuk bertegur sapa dan bercampur dengan
pelajar yang lain pada mulanya.Saya juga sentiasa rindu akan
keluarga kerana tidak pernah hidup jauh dari keluarga. Saya
mengambil masa seminggu untuk menyesuaikan diri dalam
kehidupan harian di asrama. Selepas itu, saya memberanikan
diri untuk bergaul dengan pelajar yang lain. Tidak lama
kemudian, saya berjaya mempunyai kawan yang berlainan
kaum dan kami bergaul dengan mesra.

“BLOK B! BLOK C! BANGUNNNNN!” Ayat inilah yang menjadi
“loceng” untuk para penghuni asrama pada setiap pagi.
Kemudian, selepas menyiapkan diri, setiap pelajar akan pergi
ke sekolah dengan menaiki bas yang disediakan. Asrama ini
menyediakan empat pilihan sekolah kluster, iaitu Victoria
Institution (VI), St John‟s Institution (SJI), Methodist Boy's
School (MBS) dan SMK Sentul Utama (SU). Ibu saya
mendaftarkan saya di SJI kerana saya mempunyai dua orang
abang yang telah menjadi pelajardi VI dan MBS. “ Saya

nak anak-anak saya belajar di sekolah yang berbeza.” Inilah
jawapan ibu saya kepada persoalansaya. Terdapat beberapa
aktiviti harian yang ditetapkan selepas sesi persekolahan
seperti prep petang, riadah,program Moral dan Agama serta
prep malam. Terdapat juga aktiviti khas pada hujung minggu
seperti gotong-royong, program lawatan, aktiviti “paint ball”,
program kem perdana dan banyak lagi. Di sinilah saya
berpeluang untuk memegang beberapa jawatan seperti Exco
Badan, Pengawas Blok Pendidikan dan Penolong Ketua Blok
Tingkatan Satu. Saya juga berpeluang untuk menjadi
pengacara majlis utama dalam setiap program asrama.

Pada tahun 2018, Asrama Malaysia Kuala Lumpur telah
berpindah pusat ke Victoria Institution. Semua pelajar yang
memilih untuk meneruskan penyertaan diri dalam program
Asrama Malaysia telah ditempatkan semula di asrama VI .
Sepanjang saya berada di VI, banyak ilmu baharu yang telah
saya pelajari dan antaranya ialah ilmu robotik .Saya bersama
rakan-rakan telah mewakili sekolah dan asrama dalam
beberapa pertandingan robotik peringkat kebangsaan dan
kami telah menjadi pemenang serta memenangi beberapa
anugerah khas. Bulatan sosial saya juga bertambah besar
apabila saya berkawan dengan pelajar asrama Vi yang sedia
ada.

Inilah pengalaman saya sepanjang saya tinggal di asrama.
Terdapat banyak manfaat yang telah saya peroleh dan pelajar
amat dialu-alu untuk tinggal di Asrama Malaysia. Saya telah
mendapat peluang untuk berkunjung ke semua Asrama
Malaysia untuk menyertai beberapa program secara
percuma. Saya juga menyertai beberapa program peringkat
antarabangsa seperti Anugerah Remaja Perdana. Perkara
yang paling saya kagumi sepanjang tempoh lima tahun saya
melibatkan diri dalam program ini ialah saya dapat mengenali
dan bergaul dengan pelajar yang berasal dari tradisi dan
kebudayaan yang berbeza. Kami dapat bergauldengan mesra
tanpa tercetusnya sebarangmasalah atau isu perkauman.
Kebolehan saya untuk berkomunikasi dengan fasih dalam
Bahasa Melayu juga telah bertambah baik. Hal ini semua
merupakanpengalaman yang cukup baik sebagaiseorang
penghuni AMal KL.

Saya masih lagi berhubung dengan rakan-rakan saya
walaupun masing- masing telah menyambung pelajaran di
tempat yang berbeza. Hubungan kami masih kukuh bagai
isi dengan kuku. Saya baru sahaja berkomunikasi dengan
mereka menerusi aplikasi Whatsapp pada hari raya yang
pertama.

“ Dan, tahun ni kau puasa ke tak ?”, tanya mereka kepada
saya.

“ Tahun ni taklah. Ha ha ha. Sebab takde korang. La dah
enam tahun aku puasa, bagi la aku rehat setahun. Tak salah
pun kalau aku tak puasa. Ha ha ha,” jawab saya.

Saya amat merindui mereka selepas tamat pengajian pada
tahap sekolah menengah dua tahun lepas. Segala kenangan
manis dan pahit yang dilalui bersama mereka akan saya
ingati dan hargai selalu.
