WECM: Workforce Education Course Manual, the official list of approved workforce courses that may be offered for
state funding by public community and technical colleges in Texas. Published by the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board (THECB).
WIOA: Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act. Enacted in 2014, WIOA is the primary law governing federal workforce
development. It authorizes programs designed to provide job search, education, and training opportunities to those
seeking employment.
Workforce Advisor: Serves as the first point of contact and resource in meeting with, advising and tracking workforce
students’ academic progress in connection with degree completion. Position provides academic advice and direction to
students on degree planning, program requirements, course selection and enrollment, and schedule building. Educates
students on LSC’s policies and state & federal rules as they relate to them. Represents Lone Star College (LSC) internally
and externally.
WPD: Workforce Program Development, the department of OEER that accepts requests for new workforce programs
and oversees every stage of development from submission to implementation.
WSI: Workforce Skilled Trades Instructor. Contractual instructional employee whose duties are instructing, teaching, and
program and career development designed to meet workforce needs, identified through College partnerships with
business, government, and community organizations. Instructors may be hired on a full or reduced workload. Employee
has no right of continued employment beyond the initial term of employment. Employee has no right of notice of non-
renewal and service does not count towards eligibility for a multiyear contract or faculty status.
