Tutorial Course Topics
1. X-ray Basics – Full instruction of basic X-ray principles and safety precautions to be
observed while operating the system.
2. System Operation – Complete training on the core components and indicator lights that
comprise the system.
3. Image Controls – Broad instructions on image processing and zoom control features for
X-ray image interpretation to aid operator with x-ray image interpretation.
4. Advanced Features – Comprehensive guidelines and instructions on advanced image
processing, zoom features, image archiving and Threat Image Projection (TIP) image
response.
Simulation Course Usage Reports
1. X-ray Interpretation Training – The extensive X-ray image library contains both fictional
threat and benign items that appear randomly. The fictional threat items include guns,
knives, explosives, sharp objects, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Operators
develop proficiency by advancing through three levels of diculty based on bag
complexity and orientation of the threat.
2. Adaptive Training - As operators work through practice sessions, a sophisticated
algorithm monitors and tracks executed actions and decisions for each image. Upon
completion of a practice session, the algorithm determines whether the operator correctly
responded to the exposed X-ray images. Based on that performance, subsequent practice
sessions are tailored to meet the specific training needs of the operator.
3. Ongoing X-ray Interpretation Practice – The extensive X-ray image library and adaptive
algorithm helps operators develop knowledge of a wide variety of look-a-like threats
under X-ray. Trainers can tailor sessions to focus on specific threats of concern for their
organization to continuously ensure the detection skills of operators.
The Rapiscan 600 Series DV CBT provides a limited set of threat objects AND

Features
đƫ Multi-System Support and Compatibility: Each NDS can manage
images from multiple scanners and can be installed with any
combination of Rapiscan baggage and parcel inspection 600 series
systems.
đƫ Image Queuing: By implementing the NDS, incoming baggage or
parcels can continue to be scanned without any delay or wait time
because transmitted images of the objects requiring a secondary
search are automatically stored and queued at the NDS station. The
images are stored and presented on the NDS workstation on a first
in, first out basis. Once a bag is marked as clear or suspect by the
secondary operator, the next image will automatically appear.
đƫ Image Archiving: The NDS allows the manual search operator to
choose whether to archive images for future retrieval and review.
đƫ User interface and functionality is consistent across the X-ray system
and the NDS. The X-ray images are identical on both display screens.
Using an identical operator control panel (OCP), the same full range
of image processing functions (e.g. crystal clear, inorganic/organic
stripping, black & white, etc.) are available on the NDS.

on all its baggage and parcel inspection systems.
The ability to detect illegal and controlled narcotics has become increasingly
important to many countries’ national security. Narcotics tracking ruins lives,
drains billions of dollars from the economy, and spawns violence that threatens
communities. NARCScan, Rapiscan Systems’ automatic narcotics detection
technology, allows baggage and parcel inspection system operators to more
quickly and easily identify potential illegal material inside scanned baggage or
parcels.
By analyzing the targeted object for anomalies that might indicate concealed
or actual narcotics, and displaying these as visual alerts in the operator’s screen
image, the NARCScan software accelerates the scanning and narcotics discovery
process at any screening station.

The Principle
NARCScan™ uses a proprietary detection algorithm that performs real-time
material resolution by analyzing data such as atomic number, mass, size and
other properties of the scanned materials. It then highlights the suspect material
on the operator screen. The technology can non-intrusively and automatically
detect and identify narcotics inside the bag or parcel and alert the operator even
if the suspect items are obscured or overlap with others.
Use of this automatic detection algorithm provides high detection and excellent
false alarm discrimination as it incorporates a proprietary approach in detection
algorithm to the information provided by the X-ray images. NARCScan’s
detection algorithm is based on the same breakthrough, leading edge
technology as in Rapiscan Systems’ renowned global regulatory-approved high
speed, high resolution explosive detection system (EDS), RTT™ for aviation hold
baggage screening,
Modes And Features
NARCScan™ can be operated in both automatic and interactive modes. In
automatic mode, as each item is scanned, NARCScan analyzes the contents
without the need to stop or slow down the X-ray system conveyor. In the
interactive mode, NARCScan supplements the automatic NARCScan mode
by providing the X-ray system operator with the ability to apply the algorithm
manually to suspect objects as needed. This is achieved by selecting an area
of the scanned object using the mouse pad available on the standard operator
control panel.
NARCScan is available as an option on all Rapiscan Systems’ 600 series AMERICAS, CARIBBEAN
conventional baggage and parcel inspection X-ray systems including single 2805 Columbia Street

IMAGE ARCHIVING
Rapiscan’s baggage and parcel inspection X-ray screening systems offer two types of
image archiving - advanced manual and automatic.
In both modes, the stored images can be retrieved at a later time for operator training,
improved operator efficiency verification or to review previously scanned images if
subsequent events make such a review necessary.
MANUAL IMAGE ARCHIVING FEATURES
Rapiscan Systems’ Manual Image Archive feature provides the ability for • Choice of manual or automatic archive
the operator to store the scanned image onto the system hard drive for • Enhanced and comprehensive archive management
retrieval and review at a later time. In this feature the operator manually • Image retrieval with image processing
selects and stores the image on the display screen via a single button • Image export via direct USB for viewing on PC
available on the operator control panel. Each image then can be named • Network shared folder for remote monitoring
with a full description, if desired.
AUTOMATIC IMAGE ARCHIVING BENEFITS
Automatic Image Archiving, Auto-Archive, enables all the scanned images • Continuous operator training
to be stored onto the system hard drive “automatically” without operator • Monitoring operator performance
intervention. • Share and view images on standalone Windows based PC
IMAGE RETRIEVE AND REVIEW
Retrieving archived images is easily accessible from user friendly GUI
on the main menu. In this menu two choices of either “Review Manual
Archives” or “Review Auto Archives” from the “Image Archives” submenu
is available via the X-ray system control panel touch pad. Choosing either
option opens the “Review Archives Viewer” and the “Filter Options”
window. In this window the operator can specify the images to be
retrieved by a variety of filter types. The most recent image will start to
scroll on screen with additional images following through on the operator
control panel. All available image enhancements functions (such as
Crystal Clear, Inverse, and Black and White) are available for application.
EXPORTING IMAGE
Archived images can be exported from the X-ray system onto an external
USB type drive. The type of file format can also be specified during export
either as Rapiscan proprietary format or as a standard bitmap (.bmp)
format or both. NOTE: If the image is in Rapiscan Systems proprietary file
format, it can only be viewed on a Rapiscan Systems X-ray system or a

Tutorial Course Topics
1. X-ray Basics – Full instruction of basic X-ray principles and safety precautions to be
observed while operating the system.
2. System Operation – Complete training on the core components and indicator lights that
comprise the system.
3. Image Controls – Broad instructions on image processing and zoom control features for
X-ray image interpretation to aid operator with x-ray image interpretation.
4. Advanced Features – Comprehensive guidelines and instructions on advanced image
processing, zoom features, image archiving and Threat Image Projection (TIP) image
response.
Simulation Course Usage
Simulation Course
The Rapiscan MVXR5000 CBT provides a limited set of threat objects AND
CONCEALMENT TECHNIQUES, INTENDED TO assist OPERATORS in learning how to
operate the system, but not FOR BECOMING FULLY proficient IN THREAT OBJECT OR
CONCEALMENT TECHNIQUE DETECTION.
