On October 20 the coronp-
tion ceremony for the 1962 Home-
coming was set in a gay atmos-
phere, complete with a tinkling
silver fountain, a bank of brilliant
red roses beneath a balcony, col-
ored lights and streamers, and two
delicate thrones set on a red dais.

Last year's sovereigns, Bev
Moravec and Tom Risk, led the
royal court in a procession to the
honored thrones. They were at-
tended by members of the Student
Council.

Candidates for King of the
1962 Homecoming Royalty were
Jesse Ariza, Dennis Crum, Jerry
Fuxa, Don Loftus, Stan Maliszewski,
Jock Schoville, Jock Swaney, Rex
Sweetwood, and Jim Vincent. The
Queen candidates were Porn Bruno,
Ann Doukintis, Shirley DeGeorge,
Mary Ann Dempsey, Dione Drak-
ulich, Sharen Fredericksen, Sue
Hamilton, Janie Povondro, and
Judy Trunecek.

When Don Loftus and Sharen
Fredericksen were revealed as the
new King and Queen of the 1962
Homecoming, the audience demon-
strated its approval with an enthus-
iastic burst of applause. Well-
wishers thronged onto the dais to
congratulate the royal couple, fol-
lowing their crowning by the form-
er rulers.

The evening was concluded
with dancing to music provided by
the Packer Dance Band in its first
performance before a South High
gathering.
