Varsity will split

T he Varsity cheerleaders of South High
raised Packer spirit throughout the fall
and winter sports seasons.
South's red and white squads attended Ne-
braska Wesleyan College for summer camp. They
came home wit h many group and individual
awards. Stephanie Johnson won the All -American
Award and Colleen Dougherty won the Spiri t Stick
for having the most spirit.

Over the Christmas holiday, the red squad
traveled to Orland o, Florida, wh ere they partici -
pated in the National Cheerlead ing Com petition.
They were chose n to attend because they had
finished first in their summer cam p competiti on at
Wesleyan.

For the 1986-87 season, the cheerleaders will
split into JV an d Varsity squads so spo rts will have
equal cheering t ime.

Pack in '85-'86

T he 1985-'86 Pom-pon squad of South
High expressed spirit and pride

through their dance routines. They

could be seen performing during half-times of

many home games.

Tryouts were held in the spring and the drill

team members were put through an official

initiation.

Practices were held in the mornings so many

members could participate in other school

duties. Mrs. Darlene Brown was the sponsor of Pompercttes take five during practice.

Freshmen support
Packer teams

T here they are ... the young 'uns of
South High ... the freshman cheer-
leading squad. These girls are
supervised by Ms Charnella Mims, business
teacher.

The freshman girls cheered at the ninth
grade athletic events, which, in most cases,
were right after school. Tryouts for the
freshman squad were held in October, after
the beginning of the school year.

Practices were held after school to
enable the girls to cheer many South teams
on to victory.

lecture in physics today? You can almost
be sure that something exciting will
happen today. Something always does.

Since most of our high school days
are spent in classrooms, we have all
experienced the same thoughts and
feelings. We will all have memories
from our "Glory Days" in our
