April Prom Honors McKenna, Kerwin

Reflecting back on the evening
of Friday, April 18, 1980, Prom
King Gene McKenna said, "It's
something I'll remember the rest of
my life." Gene, along with Queen
Eileen Kerwin, ruled the festivities

that night. "Ready to Take a

Chance Again" was the theme
song that Eileen and Gene danced
to after the crowning took place at
Sokol Hall, 21st and "U" Street.
The band, Bittersweet, was
selected by seniors in October. Mr.
Congenial and Miss Congeniality
were Bruce Kalchik and Sandy Mal-
zahn. Eileen Kerwin was the first
girl to run independently and win
the election without a partner. "I
ran by myself to prove that I could
do it," said Eileen. Approximately
300 people attended the festivities
that evening.
