The Student Court was organized in 1935 to try al I cases of STUDENT
misconduct in school. These did not include classroom, Council, COURT
Commission, or permanent chairmen problems.
Their main duty is not to prosecute but to educate the students
to be better citizens .

is composed of two re pre se ntati ves from each of the organized freshman, sophomore,

Two boys and two girls are nominate d each semester by the clubs , and two stude nts
are chosen-each semester from a Iist of four submitted by Commission.
The making of al I laws governing student conduct is the maj or activity of the Coun-
cil.

The YOUTH CIVIC COUNCIL, sponsored by the Junior
Chamber of Commerce, is composed of boys from eleve n Omaha
high schools. The boys come from South, Benson, North, Central,
Technical, Cathedral, Creighton Prep, Sacred Heart, Underwood,
Holy Nome, and St. Joseph's.
The purpose of the Youth Civic Council is to promote a better
understanding of the city.
This organization meets once a month at the Elks Club for
lunch and a business meeting.
Projects completed or anticipated are the Christmas toy col-
lection for needy children, Youth Radio Forum, Youth Civilian
Def~nse, Teen-age Campus Club Dancers, Youth Council present-
ations on our American System of Free-Enterprise, Fathers' Day
Ties for children of needy families, and the Youth Parade.
The present officers of the city-wide organization are Presi-
dent, Frank McDermott, from Creighton Prep; Vice-President, Jim
Abdouch, from Technical High; and Secretory, Jim Brader, from
Sacred Heart.

development of character, to promote leadership, to create enthusiasm for
high scholarship, and to stimuloteo desire to render service among students.
The student must rank in the upper third of his class, hove displayed
effective leadership in school activities, hove spent at least one year in
South High School, and hove rende red service to the school and to the stu-
dents to quo Iify for membership in this notional organization. Not more than
fifteen per cent of any class con be elected into this society.

The South High A CAPPELLA CHOIR was organ-
ized in 1938 with the purpose of developing musician-
ship, personality, health, and dependability in its
members.
Th is choir combines wi th the Speech Choir for
Christmas and Spring festivals . It also participates in
district contests, in the All-City Music Festivals, and
gives programs on special invitation.
The officers are President, James Shainhol tz; Vice
Presidents, Dorothy Orchard and Carl Vondra; Secre-
tary-Treasurers, Wadyne Helvey and Louis Dunkak;
and Tooter Reporters, Joan Fiala and Norma Broder-
sen.
Membership is given only to those who have shown
outstanding musicianship and character. The A Cap-
pel la, sponsored by Miss Mabel Shipherd, has an en-
rollment this semester of 91.

It was orginally established in 1920 and obtained its
present status in 1929 . Mr., R. L. Brown has been the
coach of this group for the past five years .
Tournament debating is the group's primary objective.
The South squad particip"ated in invitational debates at
Nebraska Wesleyan, Omaha Univeristy, Omaha Tech-
nical and Central, Lincoln Central, Thomas Jefferson,
and Sioux City Central High School.
The three top tournamen.ts each year--Girls', Boys'
and Open--are under the auspices of the Missouri Valley

The Romon banquet, sponsored by the Latin Club, was held Apri I 17 in
South High's cafeteria.
The members of Laeti Latini, The Latin Club, were formall y initiated.
The banquet was fashioned after a Roman banquet in every respect from
decorations of chariots and sandals to the olive wreaths, sacrifice for the gods ,
and wine (harmless punch}. There was alsoa dance called 11The Roman Water-
carriers" given. The skit, "Little Red Riding Hood, 11 was presented in Latin .
