The Good Times Have Been Spent With Friends . . .
Yearbook Sonnet
I reach up toward a small, untidy shelf
to take my treasured yearbook from its place.
So many tales this old, worn book can tell.
Ignored for years, it wears a dusty face.
I turn the pages as / laugh and cry.
Its magic takes me back to better times.
Adulthood seemed like just a bitter lie.
What fun we had in life's most blissful prime.
And after countless pages have been turned,
I come across the picture ofa boy.
He had a look for which, of late, I've yearned;
to look like that again would be a joy.
I close it up and put it back to stay
until I want once more to feel this way.

Three Cheers For Good Old South High
Various pep-rallies were held throughout the year
before home games. Cheerleaders and Pomperettes
held these pep-rallies in order to raise spirit among the
students. One of the largest pep-rallies held was on
December 17 for all winter sports. Participants includ-
ed: Mr. Nystrom , various staff members, the Hand-bell
ringers and Cheerleaders. Also included were some
male athletes and the South High Band. The pep-rally
consisted of a speech by Mr. Nystrom, a cheer per·
formed by the South cheerleaders and later by the
"unknown cheerleaders." There was a performance
from the Hand-bell ringers and a male leg contest. The
winner was decided by the applause from the au-
dience. This involved male athletes. The closing of the
pep-rally included Christmas songs by the staff and
students with Dr. Salerno as the song leader.
