The Tooter Staff Miss Margaret McMartin, faculty ad-
visor to the TOOTER.
Afte r winning first prize in the University of
Nebraska at Omaha Journalism contest last year with
their front page, this year's staff decided to give it
another try and see what improvements they could
make .

Although handicapped by scattered scheduling and
a l ack of experienced students, they experimented
with different styles of writing , took polls, a nd worked
for a variety of new ideas .

The TOOTER is a student publication. It is staffed
and managed by Journalism students. The newspaper
is printed once every two weeks.

Th is year DECA's Christmas Sales led
them to entertain themselves at an "Early-

Club

Latin studies. The big e ve nt of the year was the ,
Latin Club Banquet held Fe bruary 20, 1969 at Mr.
Chef Restaurant.

Masters and slaves compete in a quiz contest. Need-

Thespians

South (i igh is known not only for its many st udents,
but also for its professional stage productions. Under
the direction of Mrs. Cl a ra Ross and Mr. Roland Hin-
richs, the talent is sought among the st udents. The
professional scene ry is constructed by Mr. Robert
Hahn and the stage c rew members. The Thespian
Club c onsists of a ll who earn the sufficient honorary
·points by working on the productions. With all this
tale nt and direction, when a play is produced, th e
applause of the a u?ience is a n adequate award for
the Thespi a ns.

Stagecraft

The students in Mr. Robert Hahn's Stagecraft group learn the basics
of stage lighting, decoration, and sound. Besides working behind the
scenes on many of South High 's theater productions, these students
have a good time working in and around the auditorium.

The Ambassadors

The Ambassadors are just that - a select group of singers who rep-
resent South High's finest in song. The group travels from South
High to various meetings and gatherings. Early morning practice at
7:20 a.m. was common practice for them. It paid off. Warm ap-
pl ause was the reward as each of their appearance s was concluded.
