The yea:re Post Prom The theme might have been "It's a Small World" , but the party was big at Post Prom. The parent sponsored event included activities such as swimming, basketball, and gambling (with fake money - of course) and kept student<; busy through the wee hours of the morning. Food was a main draw for many of the students after a romp through the obstacle course or a dip in the school swimming pool. There was pizza, pop, chips and sweets galore to keep the energy levels high. New activities for this year included dog-tag making, laser targets, and a magician. Prizes were given away throughout the night at the Post Prom Store. At 4:30 A.M. the sleepy South students headed for home filled with memories of a great time with the ir classmates and ready to sleep away most of the day. ~~ .:~, ,' ~ . Soufu golfers stroke through 1. great se&Son · By Andy Rose This year, the seniors were looking for some young talent to build on for the future. They looked to a young freshman named Paul Urzendowski. Urzendowski proved to be a major asset for the team. During his performance against Westside at Spring Lake, on the second tee, he put the ball just five feet from the hole. Teammate Kyle Hunter said Urzendowski he will be a great asset to South in the coming years as he has bad more time to practice and fine tune his skills. Headed by coach McLaughlin, the team struggled in some parts of the season, but excelled in many other aspects of golfing. This year, although the team struggled against the powerhouse golf teams, they improved greatly from last year, individually as well as a group. At the end of the season, senior Nadir Maaiah, who has been on the golf team since his freshman year, tied with Kyle Hunter for d1e number one spot on the team. "The 2005 powerlifting team is by far the most successful in my seven years here at South High. At the state meet this year our team consisted of seventeen lifters. When the day was over, . fifteen lifters ended up placing in the top five. Can't ask for much more than that!" exclaimed Coach Bryan Busteed. The team consisted of seniors Henry Matthews, John Rosin, Joe Zubrod, Tim Ferro, Beth Schaefer and Vanessa Cherko; juniors Nick Noerrlinger, Mariellen Kocourek, Jak Kudlacz and Spencer Knipe; sophomores Amalia Flores, Tony Rowe, Stan Nixon, Colin Krutina, Mark Kudlacz, Shane Curtis and freshman David Szymanski. The Powerlifting team this year may not have been the biggest, but there was a lot of heart during practices and especially during meets. This was evident March 5, at the State Powerlifting meet in Fremont. South had the smallest boys team in the meet but still pulled off a second place team trophy. The girls team also did very well, with all four girls going home with medals. The Packer Powerlifters proved that with proper technique and hard work, goals can be achieved.
