Mrs. C leads
South staff

T he past years have seen a change
in the attitudes and images of South

High School. This growth is a reflec-

tion of the leadership of our principal.

Mrs. Joyce Christensen.

Mrs. Christensen works hard at making

South a pleasant and productive place to work

and learn. Staff members find the door to Mrs.

Christensen's office is always open and stu-

dents find she is always willing to help.

In her tenure at South, we have added a

computer lab and established working relation-

ships with our Adopt-a-School partners and

South Omaha businesses .

South is very proud of our principal.

Our friend has gone to rest in Peace,
But we will always remember her warm embrace.
Her hair was coal black, her eyes dark brown,
And her lips always shaped with a smile never a frown.
She was so tiny, as tiny could be,
I'll always cherish the good times she had with me.
Homecoming was so empty, she was going to be there,
She would have looked so beautiful
in her white lacy dress against her coal black hair.
We loved her so much, she was part of the crowd,
But we understand now why she chose to float in a cloud.

Natalie we will always love you. whether you are here or there,
You were a wonderful person, someone who always cared.

Now we must not worry, all her pain and hurt is gone.
For she is in God's hands now, somewhere we all know she belongs.

Mr. Delmar Glvehand asks for at-
tention .

Overture • • •

0 verture means beginning ... the beginning in this case of a student's
high school days. One walks in the doors of the school after a short

and glorious summer to spend four years of his/her life in an atmo-

sphere created for learning and a sense of responsibility .

Though we may look at these years as trying and unrewarding, we often

fail to see what is gained from the culmination of these years. One not only learns

reading, writing, and arithmetic anymore . A student learns about Shakespeare's

life and writing, foreign languages, and Newton's laws. The basics are still here,

but there is much more.

This time of learning and responsibility is not just the hard work it is sometimes

said to be. It is also a lot of extracurricular activity such as going to the football

games, being a part of a play, or even being a member of the Spanish Club .

These activities break the monotony and add some zest to the cold winter nights.

As each student progresses up the front stairs into the main hallway this does

not grow apparent at first, but through time grows vivid.

If one looks closely enough, one might recognize that single spectator at the JV game as prin- Mary Cardenas shows us,a behind
