A great percentage of South High
students are in touch with sports.

Whether as a participant or
as a spectator, sports is an area
that claims the interest of nearly

everyone in. the building. From the first football

game in the fall to the State track meet in May,

sports creates a climate that is exciting and fun.

Wrestling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis,

golf, cross country, basketball, soccer, and vol-

leyball are other sports offered at South. In all

of these areas, students have the opportunity to

compete and to exercise, strengthen and tone

their physical and mental selves.

Students also have the opportunity to work

closely with coaches who contribute guidance

and meaning to their lives.

All of these sports require time, energy and

dedication. Regardless of part time jobs, extra-

curricular commitments and homework, student

athletes manage to spend up to 15 hours weekly

preparing themselves for competition.

Because of our sports program, South has

great spirit. Students support each other and

tea m members become close. Students feel pride

in their school and reflect that feeling into the

community.

The Packers' J erry Swain

final game of the season against Millard North.
