Party

May 14 was the time; gym 310, the
scene of the gay and noisy All-Girls' Party.
This is one event of the year that boys are
not permitted to attend.

There were games, music, ba,lloons and
variety acts to· provide entertainment before
the preliminary voting for the May Fete
Queens.

"It was fun and wild as all the girls
will admit. At least it was one activity at
which the gi rls were able to let down their
hair," remarked Cindy Hanna, who by the
way wore her hair in numerous pig-tails.

Before the conclusion of the party,
finalists were annq_unced. POPULARITY:
Linda Young, Mitzi Drakulich, Shirley
Ryan. ATHLETICS: Irene Wolfe, Jeanette
Putney, Candi Wise. ACHIEVEMENT:
N ancy Chrest, Linda Ham, Beth Murphy.

Our May Queens

On the 28th day of May, in the year of nineteen hundred and sixty-five, Princi-
pal Richard C. Krebs sent a congratulatory message to the three Queens of May.
Beth Murphy, Candace Wise, and Shirley Ryan were crowned as Queens of Achieve-
ment, Athletics, and Popularity, respectively. They appear here left to right.

The Royal Court of club representatives observed the crowning of the three
Queens. Other royal candidates of the court were Irene Wolfe, Jeannette Putney,
Linda Ham, Nancy Chrest, Mitzi Drakulich, and Linda Young.

The Master of Ceremonies was William Laitner, and remembrances were pre-
sented by Cynthia Hanna. Music for the coronation was provided by the Starlighters,
directed by George Konopik, band leader.

Gordon H auptman and Leroy Dillon were ushers. The Sabers provided the
music for the royal dance which took place in gym 310 after the coronation. This
May Fete, sponsored by G irls' Athletic Association, featured the theme of the
evening, "Somewhere over the Rainbow."

In the Spring of 1965
the South High Chapter
of the National Thespian

who had earned the high-

"Professional!"
"I cried at the end."
"That scenery!"
"The children were darling!"
"Well, my. daughter. . . . . . . . . "

These were typical of the comments· heard after the performances
of South High's musical, The So1111d of Music, given on March 18,
19, and 20, in the school audi torium.

Spring

Three concerts
were presented in the
school aud itorium dur-
ing the spring of '65.

On April 8, be-
ginning at 8:00, the
South High School
band played its an-
nual Spring Concert.
Dennis Downs arranged "Teen Age Overture '65." James Spe-
vak was trumpet soloist; and Joyce Koutecky, vocalist.
Instructor George Konopik directed the First Band in such
numbers as: "The Gallant Boulevardier," "Toccata," "Victory at
Sea," and "An American in Paris."
The last selection, "Barnum and Bailey's Favorite," was played
by trombones, tubas, and baritones.

On May 12 , at 7:30, the vocal part of the Spring
Concert was performed .

All the choir members participated, including
the various ensembles. Some of the selections were:
"Afterglow," "Misty," "Elijah Rock," "Almost Like
Being in Love," and "Let Me Call You Sweetheart."

These numbers were directed by Vocal Instruc-
